Should I buy a used Renault Duster? Choosing a Renault Duster I with the right engine Options and prices.

All articles

This car appeared on the Russian market in an era when crossovers were only gaining popularity among buyers. At first, he was wildly popular. A big car for less money is ideal for a Russian driver. At the same time, the motorist was ready to put up with mediocre ergonomics and lack of comfort. The main thing is that the Renault Duster is cheap and is as practical and versatile as possible, so that you can go fishing and go on a date.

Which "Duster" is better: on gasoline or diesel?

A turbocharged diesel engine with 1.5 liters and 90 forces, a 1.6-liter engine with 102 “horses” and 2.0 liters, which produced 135 liters, was installed on pre-styling crossovers. With. After the update in 2015, the 1.6-liter engine already produced 114 “horses”, the two-liter pumped up to 145 hp. with., and diesel - up to 109 forces. What to choose: "Duster" on gasoline or diesel? Let's take a closer look at the nuances.

Both 1.6-liter engines are considered to be the best, despite the fact that they are assembled at AvtoVAZ. There are almost no problems with them up to 200 thousand km. On the “old” engine, every 60 thousand you need to change the timing belt, the ignition coils will often fail. After the update, the need for this repair was gone. The belt was replaced with a chain, the coils were also worked on. But after 100 thousand km, oil will begin to leak through gaskets and seals.

A two-liter engine runs about 300 thousand km, but after 150 thousand there is an increased appetite for oil. After the first "hundred" there is a risk that the engine will lose traction and will be reluctant to respond to the gas pedal. This is how a failed phase regulator makes itself felt. Oxygen sensors and a generator also “fly” after 100 thousand km.

A diesel engine is considered long-term if you fill it with high-quality diesel fuel and not be afraid of inevitable problems with the turbine. If you buy high-quality oil and fill the engine with good fuel, it will last a long time. Renault mechanics believe that this is the best engine in the line.

There are no questions about the manual transmission, but there are a lot of questions about the old machine that comes with the Duster. An automatic transmission will live no more than 200 thousand km. It will break down often, when switching gears it will mercilessly slow down, increase the already considerable fuel consumption, and increase the cost of the car.

Customers can choose from a front-wheel drive Duster or 4x4. Buyers and experts in unison vote for all-wheel drive. Before the update, electromagnetic clutches failed, but after the restyling, the issue was resolved.

Paintwork on budget cars does not have a suitable thickness. This must be accepted and taken for granted. But the "Duster" and the body itself does not differ in strength. Because of this, pre-styling copies fell under a revocable campaign. However, after the update, the problem was not fixed.

But the chassis is the main plus of the model. In fact, this is the same "Logan" with an indestructible suspension, only more practical due to its size.

Dorestayl or restyling?

Renault Duster appeared in 2010, and five years later it underwent restyling. About what has changed in the model and which version of the "Duster" is better to choose, tells model owner Artem Asonov . In 2013, he purchased a pre-styling Duster, and in 20018 he switched to an updated model.

- The difference in price was small. The first cost 720,000 rubles, the second - 816,000 rubles (I took it at trade-in discounts). I like the restyled Duster more. Firstly, the two-liter engine has more “horses” - 145 instead of 135, while the engine “eats” only 10 hp. Secondly, the backlight has improved in the updated version. In pre-styling, it was orange, tear out your eyes, and now it's blue. Thirdly, the gear shift knob has improved. Before, she was like a pin. And the updated "Duster" has become more dynamic in overtaking. The previous version has front-wheel drive, the updated one has all-wheel drive. In winter, the all-wheel drive "Duster" drives better along the track.

The interior models are about the same: no better and no worse. Plastic in both versions is the same in quality. But on the fabric in the second version, they clearly saved. In the first back of the front seats are upholstered in leatherette. If a child is sitting behind, the upholstery does not suffer much from kicks. In the second, the fabric quickly gets dirty. The trunk is larger in the first version, since the spare tire was placed there in the second. Despite the smaller volume, three bicycles and a snowboard fit into the trunk. The materials in the luggage compartment are worse in the second version. To prevent the cargo from slipping due to the spare wheel, I had to put plywood in the trunk. The floor in the luggage compartment is uneven, you won’t be able to sleep comfortably during the trip. Suspension is cool, the car goes smoothly on the road.

As for the technical part, in the pre-styling Duster, water poured from the washer nozzles and flooded the ignition coils. To avoid damage to the ECU, it was necessary to change both the coils and the candles. One coil costs 2,000 rubles, and a block replacement costs 35,000 rubles. A common drawback of both versions is throwing mud at the windows in slushy weather. It is necessary to put either more mudguards or wheel arch extensions. I would also recommend putting a mesh on the grate so that midges do not get into the radiator. Another disadvantage is that both versions of the Expression do not have an on-board computer. Automatic blunt, albeit reliable. When accelerating, there are large gaps between gear changes.

But in general, I like the car. Up to 100 thousand did nothing at all. At 105 thousand km, I changed the gasket in the automatic box, the replacement cost 16 thousand rubles. The transmission oil has never been changed at all. By 120 thousand km, one of the racks began to leak and the thermostat failed. If you take a car with a mileage of 120 thousand km, I recommend changing the timing belt.

Choosing "Duster" in the used car market

The average cost of a used Duster is 570 thousand rubles. For 670 thousand rubles, we found a 2017 model with a mileage of 150 thousand km:

Which Renault Duster to choose

"Duster" is now almost the best budget offer on the secondary market. There are a lot of copies on the market, while there are few frankly “killed” cars. Spare parts for a car are inexpensive, as they are produced in Togliatti.

We would say that you need to stay on the "Duster" with a turbocharged diesel or choose a 2.0-liter gasoline engine. But the 1.6-liter engine has proven itself to be reliable and trouble-free. Do not set a goal to make a choice on the engine. A 1.6-liter engine is simpler and therefore more budgetary, but a turbocharged diesel engine is more interesting to drive.

Give up the automatic transmission, it is so bad that it is better to take the mechanics. Take the all-wheel drive version: the car will be able to drive further and deeper. Better look at the restyled copy. The update turned out to be successful, it was possible to get rid of most of the minor problems.

Having made a decision When you decide to buy a new 2019 Renault Duster, you can be sure that you will overcome any obstacles behind the wheel of this car. A clearance of 210 mm and a well-thought-out ratio of weight and size guarantee excellent cross-country ability in any conditions.

The standard luggage compartment size of 475 liters can be increased to 1636 liters if you fold down the rear row of seats. This will be enough to take everything you need on the road.

Security Renault Duster 2019

The most important innovations that increase the comfort and safety of the operation of the new Duster include the Renault Start system, which provides the possibility of remote and programmable engine start, the highly informative Media-Nav multimedia complex, heating of the entire windshield area, cruise control and rear view camera.

To ensure the safety of the driver and passengers, all progressive elements of passive and active safety are involved - front and side AirBag, ISOFIX mounts, ABS and EBD systems, efficient and reliable brakes.

Starting with the Expression trim level, 2019 Renault Duster vehicles are optionally equipped with Electronic Stability Program (ESP), which prevents skidding in tight corners or slippery roads by braking individual wheels. ESP can only be purchased in conjunction with Hill Start Assist (HSA), which prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards when driving on a slope. At the same time, the driver does not need to use the handbrake, which ensures the convenience and safety of control.

The sale of new Renault Dusters at the most affordable prices, exclusive credit and insurance conditions, impeccable service - all this, and many more interesting and useful offers await you in the showrooms of the official dealer of Avtomir Group of Companies in Moscow.

Expressive design Renault Duster New

The updated design made the appearance of the car even more modern and expressive, without violating the individuality, but emphasizing the off-road character of the model. In front of the new Renault Duster body stand out:

  • double horizontal chrome bar on the grille, decorated with a branded Renault diamond;
  • segmented head optics blocks, supplemented by sections of daytime running lights;
  • original bumper with a plastic body kit and an integrated fine-mesh air intake grille.

Changes in interior design that distinguish the new Renault Duster are the optimal synthesis of functionality, practicality, excellent ergonomics of the driver's seat and comfort for each passenger.

Having retained the architecture of the front panel, the designers equipped the crossover with a new instrument panel that provides convenient reading of information at any time of the day, and a center console with a 7-inch touchscreen display of the MEDIA NAV multimedia center with a built-in satellite navigation system.

Having checked the Russified Renault Duster, which had just appeared, we concluded that it was quite reliable. Has this been confirmed by years of real operation?

Predicting the commendable corrosion resistance of the Duster body five years ago, we were not mistaken: the galvanization of all external panels and a generous layer of mastic on the bottom successfully cope with their duties even on the very first copies. Rust is in no hurry to settle even in the places of chips - which, however, start up with ease, especially at the ends of the hood and front fenders.

Door seals rub paint on thresholds

Ordinary acrylic paint is the most vulnerable, in addition, it becomes noticeably cloudy twice as fast as “metallized” paint - after a couple of years. By the way, the first corrosion should be looked for where the bar on the tailgate comes into contact with the paint. Take a look at the inner parts of the thresholds: side door seals are actively involved in such “sabotage”. Adds hassle and plastic: weakly holding front fairings (25 euros at a rate of 62 rubles per euro) roof rails at speed can disappear in an unknown direction, and peeling silver sills and both bumpers often changed already under warranty.

From sandblasting, as we expected, the protruding sidewalls in front of the rear arches suffer - it makes sense to protect them with an anti-gravel film, and replace the scanty front mudguards with larger ones.

Chips "stick" to the edge of the roof above the windshield - fortunately, even bare metal does not quickly rust

And they were not mistaken with criticism of the insufficient rigidity of the body: it happens that cracks spread along the windshield from strong distortions on the road. And the copies of the first year of production, consider, without exception, were marked by bursting paint covering the mastic in the back of the joints of the roof with the sidewalls. Problem areas were repainted under warranty, but stubborn cracks did not slow down to reappear. In July 2012, to increase structural rigidity, the length of the weld in the trunk opening was doubled, but this did not become a panacea for troubles - fortunately, the defect is purely cosmetic and does not lead to further devastation.

Paint cracks over the joints of the back of the roof panel and sidewalls - almost a universal epidemic

Do not be surprised if you find a leaking aquarium in the interior ceiling lamp: condensation from the roof likes to accumulate there. Another drop, under the feet of the front passenger, is a birth sore of the entire Logan family: the drainage snail of the climate control unit departs.

Initially silent interior with new sounds almost does not grow over time. The seat upholstery fabric is not the most durable, and the polymer coating of the steering wheel after 140-160 thousand kilometers can wear out “to the meat”

Dampness often harms poorly sealed rear number plate lights and parking sensors connectors in the bumper. But in general, in a simple electrician, problems are rare - except that the fuel gauge or on-board computer turns off, and the sound signal becomes numb due to the wiring on pre-styling versions older than 2015 (later the horn button moved to the steering wheel). And the problem with the striking hair dryer-electric heater for diesel vehicles older than 2013 is solved by flashing the ECU.

Headlights are prone to fogging, and their plastic scratches easily and becomes cloudy quickly. The bumper extending from the wing is not a sign of an accident: it does not hold well in fresh specimens. Closing the mesh with huge slots in the bumper grilles is a useful element of independent “tuning”

Wet business is not averse to continuing the washer reservoir: the elementary seal of the pump fails (70 euros). Drought also happens - if the valve that switches the washer supply between the front and rear windows fails. But it’s even worse if, in pre-styling specimens, water begins to seep past the nozzles on the hood, which are deprived of rubber gaskets, or washer fluid leaks at the tube landing site: sniper dampness gets on the spark plugs and ignition coils of gasoline engines. In order not to bring the matter to misfires and loss of coils (65 euros original and three times cheaper than analogues), it is better to put the nozzles on a sealant or replace them with three-jet ones from later versions. And if things still go to the extreme, do not hesitate to replace the elements of the ignition system: even the engine electronics signaling a malfunction with a check engine lamp does not think to turn off the nozzles in problem cylinders, putting excess fuel at risk to the health of the converter (850 euros).

In addition to coils and candles, the crankshaft position sensor (55 euros branded and from 15 analogues) most often becomes the culprit for problems with 1.6 and 2.0 gasoline engines in pre-styling Dusters. And remember that the situation with a not very effective crankcase ventilation system for both engines is aggravated by a too modest air filter. It is better to change it every 10 thousand kilometers, and when a motor oil deposit is discovered in the receiver housing (the more high-speed driving, the richer the deposits) - and more often. For both units, after 60-90 thousand kilometers, the thermostat may jam (15 euros), and on the side of the timing drive during cold starts, a creak and rattle may appear. You should not panic, because, as a rule, weak rollers of the attachment belt are screaming.

Both motors can fail elementary throttle body gaskets in three to five years - with leaky ones it is difficult to start in cold weather. And after a run of 60-80 thousand kilometers, other seals also fail - oil streaks appear at the junction and near the valve cover bolts.

The H4M engine produced in Togliatti is related not only to a dozen Nissans (including Tiida, Qashqai, and Juke models), but also to Lada Vesta ">

For K4M and F4R engines (shown), when the timing belt breaks, the pistons are almost guaranteed to bend the valves
The H4M engine produced in Tolyatti makes Duster related not only to a dozen Nissans (including Tiida, Qashqai, Sentra and Juke models), but also to Lada

The two-liter F4R engine, although the most popular (half of the cars on the market), is not the most successful. From the younger brother K4M with a volume of 1.6 liters (with such a third of the cars), this unit, in particular, differs in the presence of phase regulators (during restyling in 2015, it acquired one at the intake, increasing the output from 135 to 143 hp). And at the same time and problems with them! Couplings (150 euros each) sometimes do not withstand even 60-80 thousand kilometers. You need to check hot: "diesel" rattling notifies you of trouble only on a warm engine. Postponing repairs is risky: the wear products of the phase shifters will first clog the control valve, and then scatter throughout the entire lubrication system.

The weak point of the two-liter engine is the phase shifter clutch

More often at 2.0, the piston group also throws up surprises: after 140-170 thousand kilometers, due to the occurrence or wear of the rings, oil consumption can go off scale for three liters per ten thousand kilometers. And in general, the larger engine surprisingly turned out to be less durable: before overhaul with a boring of a cast-iron cylinder block, it usually withstands about 300 thousand kilometers against 350-400 thousand that 1.6 is able to plow.

In 2015, the well-deserved unit of the K4M series, which has been registered on many Renault models since the 90s, gave way to the Nissan H4M engine (aka HR16DE) of Togliatti production with a volume of 1.6 liters. And this, too, is hardly a cause for special celebration. On the one hand, the phase shifters (at the intake) of this unit are more reliable than those of a two-liter one. But before the overhaul, the engine takes care of the same 300 thousand kilometers, and only a sleeve from craftsmen can save from buying a new aluminum cylinder block. Maintenance seems to be easier: there is no need to replace the toothed belt due to its absence in the timing chain drive, which does not require attention for years, and the electronic throttle is more slowly overgrown with deposits. But the valve clearances are not commanded by hydraulic compensators, like in the K4M, - the mechanism that starts to click every 80-100 thousand kilometers has to select pushers of a new thickness.

The slightly higher power of the H4M is offset by less resistance to overheating. Like its French counterparts, this unit does not always start up enthusiastically in cold weather, it likes to whistle with a generator belt drive. In addition, the sound picture is often enriched by the growl of the exhaust system with a destroyed gasket ring (35 euros) of the exhaust pipe, and nervous trembling after 100 thousand kilometers has to be appeased by replacing the torn pillow of the right support (110 euros).

Weaker versions of the turbodiesel have a "turbine" of constant geometry, the performance of which is controlled by a bypass valve. And the 109-horsepower modification has a variable geometry turbocharger

Nissan's one and a half liter K9K diesel engine, which made its debut in 2001, among others, makes the modest Duster related to cars ... Mercedes! And it is remarkable not only for this. For by the time it appeared on our Duster (10% of cars with it), it got rid of its main misfortune - the wear of the connecting rod bearings after a frivolous 100-150 thousand kilometers. Only oil starvation or absolutely unreasonable savings on the quality of oil, which is better to renew every 10 thousand kilometers, can bring reinforced liners (60 euros each) to cranking. By the way, this will also help not to retire the turbocharger (1000-1300 euros) before 150 thousand kilometers.

Sensitive to diet and fuel equipment. If you refuel anywhere, the Delphi piezoelectric injectors (500 euros each!) On the 90-horsepower version will not last even 10-12 thousand kilometers. And do not hesitate to replace the junk nozzles: the costs can still jump due to the subsequent burnout of the pistons.

With the restyling of 2015, the design of the optics, the bumper and the radiator grill have changed. The list of options has expanded, the two-liter engine and diesel have added power, and the 1.6 engine has become different. (Photo by Dmitry Pitersky)

When restyling in 2015, they began to install another, more powerful version of the K9K engine (109 hp) on the Duster. In addition to the system for changing the geometry of the turbocharger, this one is distinguished by the presence of a particulate filter (750 euros), which even in the city can withstand a laudable 150-200 thousand kilometers. As well as other fuel equipment - Siemens brand. With simpler and more unpretentious injectors (300 euros each), but with a more demanding high-pressure pump (1200 euros), which can wear out after 120-170 thousand kilometers.

For any of the diesels, after 100-120 thousand kilometers, the EGR exhaust gas recirculation system can fail (250 euros for a new valve assembly), and a more powerful version burdened with a dual-mass flywheel with the same mileage may require its replacement (800 euros).

Not everything goes well with the clutch (150-200 euros) paired with any of the gearboxes - the six-speed TL8 and the five-speed JR5 for front-wheel drive versions. The lining of the driven disk lasts 130-160 thousand kilometers, but due to fatigue from increased loads (usually when conquering off-road) of leaf or damper springs, twitching can begin soon after 100 thousand kilometers.

The clutch slave cylinder, combined with the release bearing (110 euros), turned out to be complex and not very reliable: it often has to be changed after a run of 50-70 thousand kilometers. And be careful when pumping: the reason for buying a new unit can easily be a fragile plastic pipe for the hydraulic line, on which the fitting is located.

The design is based on the All-Logan B0 platform. And the all-wheel drive transmission is borrowed from related Nissan cars.

The mechanical gearboxes themselves are commendably reliable and rarely upset by something more serious than oil seal leaks. Although in the early years, oil losses were so rapid that they were brought to warranty replacements for unsuccessfully assembled and jammed units. Simplicity and unpretentiousness match the electromagnetic multi-plate clutch for connecting the rear axle, sitting in front of the main gear. If it junk, it’s the fault of the control electrician: it’s easy to damage the wiring on the roads, and copies of the first two years of production could arbitrarily turn into purely front-wheel drive at the beginning of the movement or turn the steering wheel to extreme positions - the discipline was returned by the service campaign for “filling” the corrected control program.

The related Nissan Terrano has differences in appearance and interior, but not in reliability. (Photo by Roman Tarasenko)

It's amazing, but even the four-speed automatic transmission, known for its whims, behaves quite decently for the company. Neely DP0, and after modernization in 2013 called DP8 for all-wheel drive Dusters (and DP2 with front-wheel drive), the box in 2015 managed to survive a service campaign to replace the oil distributor block and o-rings. But the unit with a redesigned torque converter and ZF valve body, as well as with a more efficient enlarged heat exchanger and an additional oil cooling circuit, began to suffer less from its main trouble - overheating. And if you don’t skimp and officially change the “eternal” oil, the control hydraulics will last 100-150 thousand kilometers without repair, and the “iron” itself will last 250 thousand kilometers. But the box still doesn’t like the cold, so it’s better to spend time warming it up before the trip than prematurely fussing with replacing valves.

Even in frosts, CV joints stuck with thickened grease can crunch, but before 150-180 thousand kilometers they rarely wear out - which saves you from buying drives that go exclusively in assembly (400-480 euros each). But the cardan shaft cannot boast of being problem-free: the crosses (first the front) often begin to play without waiting for 100 thousand kilometers, and for specimens that often encounter off-road conditions twice as soon. Pulling with the repair is fraught: the shaft splitting will break neighboring bearings, and if the crosses are heavily worn, they may fall apart. The piquancy of the situation is that the cardan in spare parts is assembled with non-removable crosses and costs immodest by Duster standards 570 euros, and the only alternative that allows you to save twice as much is to find a service that can select and implement suitable crosses and balance the shaft.

In order not to suddenly be left without the help of a power steering in specimens older than four or five years, do not forget to keep an eye on its high pressure line (250 euros): it is often rubbed through at the point of attachment to the subframe. The design, by the way, is equally unsuccessful for both the hydraulic booster and the EGUR on diesel versions. And for specimens that saw the light before mid-2012, keep an eye on the handbrake cables: their own mounting brackets have torn through the shell through and through for several years.

And yet, in general, the undercarriage turned out to be even stronger than we thought! And the prices for original parts are not sad: they are sometimes lower than for analogues. To break the steering rack, you need to try very hard, and a new branded one will cost only 250 euros. The role of the weak link in the suspension can only be assigned to penny bushings of the front stabilizer (9 euros original and from two or three for analogues), which have to be updated every 30-50 thousand kilometers. After 50-70 thousand, the turn of the front stabilizer struts comes (20 euros each). The decline of the rear stabilizer struts (the same 20 euros) comes later, after 80-110 thousand kilometers. At the same time, the term of the rear shock absorbers (45 euros each), wheel bearings (40 euros) and ball bearings is suitable - although they are sold in a load with levers, they cost “in the original” only 45 euros. Front shock absorbers (45 euros each) usually last up to 100-120 thousand kilometers, silent blocks - up to 110-140 thousand, and bearings (40 euros) rarely start to buzz before 140-160 thousand kilometers. The rear suspension requires no earlier attention - either McPherson for all-wheel drive versions, or with a semi-independent beam for front-wheel drive.

So Duster is a clear confirmation that simplicity is the key to health. There is less trouble with him than with most classmates, and a few repairs will not ruin the cost of spare parts. Yes, and the purchase itself does not hit the pocket hard: to become the owner of a three-five-year-old copy, half a million rubles may be enough - only the “Chinese” are more accessible from imported crossovers. And even for very fresh restyled two-year-olds, 600-700 thousand can be enough, and millions of price tags do not exist at all.

The diesel fuel system is expensive to repair, so I strongly recommend not to save on the fuel filter, change it every 30 thousand kilometers and not install cheap analogues. In severe frosts, a poor-quality filter passes paraffin particles further through the system, rendering the high-pressure fuel pump and nozzles unusable. In a neglected case, the approximate cost of repairs will be at least 70 thousand rubles. Recently they brought such a Duster on a tow truck: it stopped starting in the cold. The diagnostic tool revealed a low working pressure for starting the engine, issued by the high-pressure fuel pump - fortunately, the matter was limited to replacing the fuel filter clogged with paraffin clots.

The H4M gasoline engine that appeared after restyling, unlike its predecessors, does not get along well with gas equipment: there is a high risk of valve burnout. And do not believe the factory instruction manual, which does not indicate an oil change in an automatic transmission. We strongly recommend changing the working fluid at least once every 100 thousand kilometers. Changing the oil in the transfer case and rear gearbox is also not included in any scheduled maintenance, but we recommend updating it every 75 thousand kilometers. By the way, often when checking the “factory” oil level in the gearbox and razdatka, we observe a shortage, which is unacceptable. And keep in mind that the transfer case uses a different gear oil than other units.

As for “abnormal” modifications, first of all I advise you to install the mesh in the bumper slot, especially for pre-styling cars: the window there is so large that not only dirt and fluff, but also stones easily get into the radiator. If off-road trips are planned, the metal protection of the fuel tank, rear axle gearbox and converter for gasoline versions will not interfere. But the armrest that comes as an additional option, if installed, is only original: the analogues are very flimsy. We generally refuse to deal with non-original arch extensions: unlike branded ones, they often begin to peel off the very next day.

I bought an all-wheel drive Renault Duster with a 1.6 engine in May 2012 and recently sold it with a mileage of 160 thousand kilometers, some of which were off-road.

After the first winter, there were numerous chips and swelling of the paint on the rear doors and wheel arches, as well as cracks in the paint at the junction of the sidewall and roof - everything was fixed under warranty. With a run of about 100 thousand kilometers, the lower door seals rubbed the paint on the thresholds to the ground, and deep corrosion even appeared on the lower part of the central pillar of the body. In addition, the chrome trim on the tailgate erases the paint to metal.

The insecurity of the engine compartment from dirt was defeated by installing a door seal from the VAZ-2109. I eliminated the ingress of water into the wells of the ignition coils by installing non-standard fan-shaped washer nozzles and putting them on a sealant, and on a run of 140 thousand kilometers I replaced the cracked rubber tips of the coils.

After 70 thousand kilometers, a backlash appeared in the crosses of the cardan shaft - the high cost of the new unit prompted us to contact the cardan repair workshop, where both crosses and the outboard bearing were replaced. At 150 thousand kilometers, the right outer CV joint rattled, and soon the left one asked for a replacement. I believe the reason was a suspension lift of three centimeters and frequent off-road visits.

With a run of 30 thousand kilometers, under warranty, I changed the right front suspension arm: the ball joint rattled. Subsequently, I changed the right lever again with a run of 140 thousand kilometers (silent blocks were worn out) and the left one after 100 thousand kilometers (the ball bearing rattled). At the same time, the rear shock absorbers lost their working capacity, but the front ones went through the entire period without problems. And the main consumable in the suspension is the front stabilizer bushings, which were enough for 20-25 thousand kilometers. Rear stabilizer bushings changed only once at 150 thousand kilometers. Stabilizer struts replaced once in a circle.

With a run of 90 thousand kilometers, I discovered a leak in the power steering drain line - a new part was made in the workshop. Next, the wheel bearings began to fail: first the rear right buzzed, and then the left. The front right one gave up at 140 thousand kilometers, but the left one is holding on. When replacing the front one, I had to deal with the ABS sensor that was tightly soured in the steering knuckle.

At the 75th thousand kilometers, the sound signal suddenly stopped working: the wire going to the button in the left steering column lever was frayed (I solved the problem with a soldering iron). For the third winter of operation, the contacts in the rear number plate lights oxidized and rotted. By 140 thousand kilometers, the steering wheel cover was so worn out that the steering wheel had to be replaced. And in the upholstery of the seats, two small holes appeared on the back at the place of installation of the electric heating elements.

But in general, Duster met my expectations, pleased with its versatility, spaciousness and decent cross-country ability even on serious off-road conditions (by the way, I never managed to overheat the rear-wheel drive clutch). So I didn’t face the problem of choosing a new car: it was again the all-wheel drive Duster, only a two-liter one.

Simpleton Renault Duster rarely gets into criminal reports. But this does not mean that you should not bother with checking the marking at all: problems with the body number can arise as a result of an accident and, as a result, body repairs.

The identification VIN-number (it is also the body number) is located on the front right support of the suspension strut in the direction of travel. And when hit in the front right quarter, this place in Duster is often damaged. If traces of repair, non-factory welding and non-original sealant are found, the car will be sent for examination during registration with the traffic police, and if it turns out that during the repair the support was completely separated from the body, registration will be denied.

The identification plate is affixed to the front passenger door opening on the B-pillar. The absence of a plate is not a reason to refuse registration, but it should alert a potential buyer. Indirectly, the absence of a plate can usually indicate a criminal trail, but in the case of Dusters, it is also more often a sign of a body repair that involved the B-pillar, which in itself does not bode well.

Well, if when examining the VIN number and the marking plate you did not see any traces of extraneous interference, just do not forget to compare the registration data indicated in the TCP with the actual numbers on the car.

Despite the fact that the Renault Duster is a popular and top-selling crossover, finding a really good copy was not easy.

For example, there were no more than two dozen cars with a diesel engine in the entire capital and its environs, although we were looking for a car both from official dealers and from individuals. The very first negotiations and inspections revealed that official dealers greatly increase the price of cars even in poor condition, and private sellers, in addition, try to hide their real condition during a call to an ad.

As a result, before finding a car for Autoreview, we examined sixteen (!) cars, half of which were non-retail quality. What does it mean? Too many painted (and not in the best way) parts, there were instances after serious accidents, with missing labels and, of course, with twisted mileage. I suppose that the indicators on the odometer of the copy we bought (85 thousand kilometers) are also underestimated, although in all other respects the car completely suited us. This is a 2012 diesel Duster in full working order, with a clean legal history, sole owner and a few typical "urban" bodywork defects in the form of a painted front fender, scratches on the sills and lapping on the right rear flare. Of course, a Duster with a diesel engine and a “handle” is not as easy to sell as a popular gasoline one with a two-liter engine and an “automatic”. However, there are also buyers who are aware of the economy, high-torque and long service life of this diesel engine, so we hope to get 530-550 thousand rubles for our copy.

Renault Duster 2.0 engine for the new version of the crossover slightly improved its performance. The manufacturer introduced a variable valve timing system for the 2-liter Renault Duster, which improved fuel consumption, dynamics and power of the unit. If earlier the same F4R produced 135 hp, now it is 143 hp.

Structurally, the in-line 4-cylinder 16-valve gasoline aspirated has a cast-iron cylinder block and a timing belt drive. The valve mechanism has hydraulic compensators. Electronically controlled distributed injection acts as a power system. Of the problems, the engine can be noted zhor oil and bent valves in the event of a broken timing belt. When valves meet pistons, in most cases it will be necessary to carry out a comprehensive repair of the cylinder head. You can read more about the process here https://xmotors.com.ua/services/remont-golovki-bloka-cilindrov. And so in general, a very durable and reliable motor. The main thing is to carry out all routine maintenance and replacement of consumables on time.

By the way, the new Duster 2.0 can only have 4x4 all-wheel drive. Although the first crossovers with this engine also came with front-wheel drive, it later turned out that this configuration was simply not in demand. The gearbox is a 6-speed manual or a time-tested 4-band hydromechanical automatic.

Naturally, the 2 liter power unit is the most dynamic among Duster engines. And the introduction of variable valve timing made acceleration even better. Up to a hundred with mechanics and all-wheel drive, the engine accelerates a compact crossover in 10.3 seconds, and with 4-speed automatic transmission it takes 11.5 seconds. As for fuel consumption, this is the weak point of the engine. In the city with a gun officially 11.3 liters, in fact 13 liters. The mechanics in this regard are a little better. Next, we offer more detailed technical specifications of the 2-liter Duster.

If the base Duster 1.6 engine (114 hp) is assembled in Russia (Tolyatti Avtovaz), then a more powerful 2-liter one is brought from Spain, where Renault has a large production of power units. There are many modifications of this motor that can be found on other Renault models.

The French presented the new Renault Duster 2020 model year of the second generation, sales of which should begin at the end of 2019. To be more precise, it is already sold under the name Dacia Duster, but for Russia, the crossover has not yet been localized.

On the page, all the details about the new Renault Duster body of the 2020 model year, release date in Russia, possible configurations and prices, photos, specifications, latest news and video test drive.

Duster is one of the best-selling models of today's Renault lineup, which is due to the rather successful localization of the production of these budget SUVs.

Factories in Brazil, India, Colombia and Russia meet the high demand for such equipment in their countries, in addition, some functions have been transferred to them to create modifications specially prepared for local operating conditions.

The Renault Duster SUV of the 2020 model year is built on the old VO platform, but this did not stop the designers from expanding the track and slightly changing the dimensions of the car:

  • length - 4340 mm. (+25 mm to the old version);
  • width - 1830 mm. (+8 mm.);
  • height - 1621 mm. (-4 mm.);
  • ground clearance - 210 mm. (did not change).

The layout of the chassis with McPherson independent suspension at the front (coil springs and anti-roll bars) and semi-independent (for front-wheel drive versions) and multi-link (for all-wheel drive) rear system remained unchanged.

Renault Duster 2020 also uses a standard rack and pinion power steering and a classic “pair” of brakes: ventilated discs on the front axle and “drums” on the rear.

Exterior

The new Renault Duster crossover of the 2020 model year has undergone a serious homologation, which included the revision of most body elements.

New bumpers and an enlarged embossed hood, chrome parts on the radiator grille and a modified geometry of the air intakes, a fifth door extended to the level of the rear pillars and a new two-section head optics with built-in diode strips, “bulging” headlights at the stern with a cross-shaped white “reverse” insert - in more harmony and integrity appeared on the exterior of the car, and the design itself began to echo the appearance of other Renault models.

The new color scheme deserves special attention: it has not only expanded, but also received more saturated shades from among those already used.

Interior

Renault Duster 2020 of the second generation received a modified dashboard, as well as a new seat frame with more developed lateral support and the ability to adjust the elements of the lumbar zone and the height of the head restraints.

In addition, in the "top" equipment configuration, the interior will please with high-quality leather upholstery. The steering wheel adjustment parameters have also changed: in addition to the horizontal adjustment with a range of 50 mm. became available and vertical (40 mm.)

Finishing materials of the updated Renault Duster 2020 as a whole have become better, and the set of options has expanded due to:

  • climate control systems,
  • a set of all-round cameras,
  • keyless access systems,
  • blind spot monitoring systems,
  • Start buttons to start the engine,
  • relay for automatic switching of headlights, etc.

Folding backrests of the rear row of seats will increase the volume of the luggage compartment up to 1636 liters. Even more space is promised to be offered by the Renault Grand Duster package already announced by the manufacturer, which will provide 7 seats.

Finally, do not forget about the Duster Oroch, a pickup truck that is sold in the Brazilian market and in 2020 has every chance to get acquainted with the Russian market.

Technical filling

For the Renault Duster 2020 model year, the developers have prepared a new line of powertrains, among which there are also upgraded versions of old engines.

So, diesel 1.5 dCi managed to be slightly boosted, adding 5 “powers” to each (now the power of such units is at the level of 95 and 115 hp).

The place of the 1.2 TСe gasoline engine was taken by the 1.3-liter engine used in the model in two power versions - 130 and 150 hp. With.

French engineers have also replaced the atmospheric 1.6 SCe, offering as an alternative a completely new three-cylinder 1.0 TСe, which is installed in parallel on the second generation and fourth generation Clio.

In Europe, the new Renault Duster 2020 will also be available with a 1.6-liter (130 hp) turbodiesel engine, which will be paired with a CVT.

For Russia, a less powerful version will be prepared - 1.5 dCi with a turbocharger (109 hp)

The petrol liter power plant will be complemented by a simple 5-speed manual transmission, capable of transmitting torque only to the front axle.

For all-wheel drive modifications, a two-liter unit with 143 liters is “shown”. with., which can be equipped with both mechanical and automatic transmission.

When will the new Renault Duster be released in Russia?

Europeans, and with them residents of a number of states designated by the French as the most promising for their updated market model, for example, India, will get acquainted with the new Duster at the end of 2019 - the beginning of 2020.

Renault Duster 2020 of the second generation will arrive in Russian car dealerships approximately next year, which is explained by the manufacturer's decision to rely on another model - for which the Renault Moscow plant is already preparing its capacities.
