Laz adjustment of the cables backstage gearbox. Adjusting the backstage cables on the vag manual transmission

Not every novice motorist knows what the checkpoint box is, where it is located and what functions it performs. However, this element is important for functioning, so every motorist should know about its device. Read below about what a rocker is in a gearbox, how it is adjusted and when a replacement is needed.

General information

Drivers mistakenly believe that the gearshift lever is the gearshift lever, which is located to the right of the driver's seat. This version can be seen on some Internet resources. But we assure you that this is not the case. What we will talk about next.

concept

What it is? The gearbox link is a multi-component device, the purpose of which is to link the selector (gearbox lever) and the rod, which leads directly to the gearbox. This part, namely its rear part, is located between the selector and the gearbox and is located under the bottom. In other words, the rocker is a hidden mechanism located next to the driveshaft or under the selector.

And although the linkage of the gearbox has a long service life, its failure is possible. Motorists may not change this component for 100 thousand kilometers, but sometimes it becomes necessary to replace it. This occurs as a result of dirt, moisture or dust entering the system. Deterioration of the backstage is possible with a lack or absence of lubricants or for other reasons.

Device

We figured out what a backstage is in a car gearbox. Now let's talk about the device of this mechanism. The design and arrangement of the component directly depends on the manufacturer and brand of car. As a result of the fact that different automobile concerns want to achieve modernization and originality of gearboxes in cars, the arrangement of elements may vary.

Accordingly, there is no universal version of the element device, but you can consider all the components that are used in the production of the node:

  • gear selector of a car, that is, in a simple way - a lever;
  • traction system for selecting speed if necessary;
  • the so-called fork finger of the system for selecting the required speeds;
  • a device that is a retainer of the same finger;
  • fork mechanism, is an integral element;
  • fork seal.

All components described above are interconnected. They are responsible for ensuring that the gearbox selector can turn on the speed in the required position.

Kinds

According to their types, the wings are divided into:

  • short-stroke;
  • long-stroke.

There are no fundamental differences between the mechanisms. The only difference is that for long-stroke wings, the speed turns on longer, literally by a fraction of a second, than for short-stroke ones. The stroke of the backstage determines the stroke of the box lever. According to motorists, short-stroke mechanisms are considered sports and with their use it is possible to achieve better car dynamics. This is not true, it does not affect the dynamics of the wings.

In what cases is it necessary to replace?

In most vehicles, such a mechanism as a link is quite reliable, usually not in need of repair or replacement. But still, replacing the backstage is necessary if it is of poor quality or has already worked out its service life. Such a problem can arise even for the owner of an expensive foreign car. How to understand that the replacement of the scenes in the car is necessary?

We hasten to assure you that you will feel these problems immediately, but nevertheless we will list them:

  • the play of the gearbox selector has increased significantly;
  • there were certain difficulties directly with switching speeds (the lever simply does not turn on) or extraneous sounds began to appear during the switching process;
  • gears at the checkpoint are switched, but it is difficult, for this you have to make an effort;
  • if the speeds are switched incorrectly, that is, instead of one, another is switched on;
  • if the gears do not engage, you may only be able to engage one or two out of five gears.

As for the backlash that has appeared, the issue requires special attention. At first, when he first appeared, this will not affect either the operation of the gearbox or the speed of movement. Therefore, motorists ignore this problem.

It is not worth driving with a backlash for a long time, because with time of operation its condition will only worsen.

This can lead not only to breakdown, but also to an accident. Therefore, the problem of backlash should be given attention. And don't run this problem.

Backstage adjustment

Now we smoothly approached such a question as adjusting the backstage. You can always resort to replacing the component, in which case you can be sure that in the near future the problem will not bother you anymore. Replacement is not always the way out. Adjustment of the backstage is necessary if you are sure that in the adjusted state it can last a long time.

How is the process.

  1. First, let's try to adjust the component using reverse gear. To do this, engage reverse gear and loosen the clamp. In addition, you will also need to set the gear selector to the position in which it should be when the reverse gear is engaged.
  2. When these steps are completed, the implement clamp can be tightened back.
  3. On this, the adjustment process can be considered complete, in 99% of cases this procedure allows you to solve the problem of incorrect switching on of speeds.

If you notice that in your car the free play of the gearshift has increased, the clarity of the shift has disappeared, or it is completely difficult to catch a gear, you have problems with a broken gearshift drive.

There are two ways to solve this problem.

1. The first method is simple, but expensive. It provides for a complete replacement of the drive.

2. The second method is cheap, but rather troublesome. This method consists in purchasing a gear shift drive repair kit.

So, if you decide to do everything yourself, then I suggest that you first get everything you need.

Spare parts.

1. Traction gear selection;

2. Five plastic bushings with rubber rings.

However, that's not all, along with this kit, you will need to purchase another large shift drive axle and two small ones with springs and locks. Together with the repair of the gear shift drive, I would advise replacing the stem and oil seal on the gear shift mechanism. This must be done without fail, because usually the rod eyes have a large output.

Tools.

Of the tools you will need:

1. Allen key on "12";

2. Drill on "4" and "5";

3. Pliers;

5. Hammer;

6. Screwdriver.

If everything is available, I propose to proceed with the dismantling of the car gearshift drive.

1. It is necessary to loosen the tightening of the bolt connecting the gear shift shaft and the drive on the clamp.

2. Remove the spring clip from the small shaft that connects the actuator to the shift shaft.

Well, the drive is removed, you can safely proceed to its repair.

1. Now you need to alternately replace the bushings on the drive joints. To do this, use the pliers, with their help, remove the stopper. Next, disconnect the connection and remove the old sleeve and replace it with a new one. On the eye itself, you need to press the sleeve until a groove for the stopper appears.

2. The next step is to replace the plastic drive triangle, it often has a rather large output.

3. Rivet the end of the axle, then grind and knock out.

4. Install the new triangle axle.

5. The end of the new axle must be riveted.

Now you can replace the rubber bands and bushings on the drive lever itself and install it in place. Do not rush to tighten the clamp that connects the shaft and the gearshift drive, this will need to be done a little later.

Adjustment.

1. Put the gearshift lever in neutral position.

2. On the gearbox mechanism, it is necessary to find and pull out the plug of the adjusting hole. Install drill “4” in its place and start slowly turning the shaft.

Read how to adjust the gearshift control drive on a VAZ 2110 car. A diagram of the device is presented.

If during the operation of the car you have problems with shifting gears (there is no clear shift), then it's time to adjust the drive that controls this mechanism. Also, these works must be carried out immediately after you have carried out its repair and reinstallation, since after such actions the entire gearshift mechanism “disperses”.

We did the tuning on a VAZ 2110 car.

1. On the control rod of the gearbox, it is necessary to loosen the nut of the clamp coupling bolt, it is enough to unscrew the bolt by 4-5 turns (you will need a key of 13). You can only get to it from the bottom of the car.

2. In order to ensure free movement of the rod relative to the gear selection rod, - you should expand the grooves at the end of the rod and the clamp with a screwdriver. Then put the rod in the neutral position.

3. Next, we go to the car interior and dismantle the gearbox cover from the handle. It can simply be lowered to the very bottom, and the lever set so that its lower (non-curved) end is approximately vertical.

If you have template 67,7834,9527, then set the gearshift handle as follows: with the lever cover removed, install the template in the lining window (number 14 in the diagram above) of the reverse gear lock bracket.

4. Under the bottom of the machine, you need to carefully, not with sharp movements of the hand, select the axial play of the rod in the backward direction and its angular play in the counterclockwise direction (the task is not to move the gear lever).

5. Now you can re-tighten the nut of the clamp bolt under the car, only adjust the clamp itself a little forward so that there is a free space between it and the rod of about 2-3 millimeters.

When attending driving lessons, you probably remember how much time was devoted to studying the structure of the car. Basic knowledge is certainly necessary, but in an attempt to fit the course in a short time frame, instructors often forget about, at first glance, not so important issues. Far from everyone can understand the type, functionality and understand the design of such a component as a backstage in a gearbox, due to ignorance of its very existence. Let's try to deal with this device in more detail.

What is a rocker in a gearbox

To begin with, you should figure out what a backstage is, what its functional importance is and why a backstage is needed in a gearbox. Answering the first question, it should be clarified that the exact technical name sounds like "gearbox control rod". In the mistaken assumption of many, it is often referred to as a gear lever. However, rocker gear- this is a multi-component design, the functional purpose of which is to connect the lever-switch to the rod leading to the gearbox.

From this statement it follows that the design of the spare part itself is a rather complex mechanism, and the link in the gearbox itself performs the connecting function of the lever with the gearbox. In modern cars, this part is placed under the bottom (close enough to the driveshaft), and in older cars it can be seen directly under the gearbox itself.

Like any other device, the rocker in a manual transmission tends to wear out. The margin of safety of the entire mechanism is often determined by these smallest details, which means that a malfunction of at least one of the components leads to a loss of initial performance. Breakdowns are most often associated with a long service life, the ingress of additional elements into the system (dust, moisture), or insufficient care for the gearbox itself.

Mechanism device

With the current of time, automobile manufacturers are fundamentally changing the features of the gearbox of their own cars. New types of robotic gearboxes are constantly appearing, they are especially active. The progress of the manual transmission also does not stand still, and this desire for modernization often creates a real problem for auto technicians and those who like to delve into their own car.

With such a wide choice of available manual transmissions, the design of the backstage itself in the gearbox tends to be constantly modified. In order to simplify the task, we use the generalized indicative type of the considered device.

The main components that make up the backstage of the checkpoint:

  1. gear lever
  2. Traction gear
  3. fork + fork finger
  4. Gland retainer

In addition, conditionally, the backstage includes such components as: a cable, a spring and the body itself (or base). The folded, tuned operation of these parts allows you to switch speed modes in the positions previously assigned to the gearbox.

Backstage symptoms

Despite the excellent reliability of this design, like any other part of a complex working mechanism (during operation, the backstage is subjected to constant physical influences, both from the driver and from the car itself), it requires constant prevention and careful maintenance. Otherwise, undesirable consequences can often occur, leading to breakdowns and problems. Let's analyze the most likely of them:

  • looseness of the gear shift knob (lever play has increased);
  • difficulty shifting gears (the lever is tight, “crunches” when changing position);
  • inability to turn on (for example, turn on 6th gear);
  • erroneous switching (instead of the 3rd, the 5th is switched on, etc.).

Unlike the last three, the first problem (backlash) does not affect the shift speed, and generally does not affect the operation of the gearbox. However, what now only causes discomfort can “grow” into serious problems. Delaying repairs in such situations does not lead to anything good, and an unexpected breakdown can happen at the most inopportune moment.

Self adjusting backstage

A common mistake of all novice motorists is to understand their own problem. The slightest malfunction of the gearbox, they associate with global problems and are preparing for a complete replacement of the system. However, it often happens that small interventions, namely the correct and professional adjustment of the backstage, is the necessary solution to eliminate the problem that has arisen.

To begin with, you should start by adjusting (tuning) the drive used. It must be carried out after making sure that it works. At the first speed, we drive onto an overpass, or an elevation of a similar type. If you experience shifting problems (described earlier), try the necessary steps with the engine off.

Being on the handbrake, having previously substituted the counter-recoils, we begin the preliminary adjustment. With the engine turned off, but the gears not turned off, we shift the lever to the left to the maximum possible position. We tighten the clamp under the car. It often happens that only a few millimeters in relation to the cardan shaft are enough for the necessary displacement.

Another option for the prevention and prevention of problems is to remove foreign elements from the mechanism (moisture, dust, dirt) and lubricate the parts. The rocker in the gearbox, like any other part, requires lubrication. But how to lubricate the backstage? There are no special preferences. A regular lubricant for automotive parts will do. The main thing is not to overdo it.

Not all motorists are aware of the name of this or that part in their car. At the same time, we are talking not only about the mechanisms “hidden” in the engine, but also about the devices with which they interact literally every day. One of these parts is the gearbox linkage.

Please note: The name "swing" is not official for this mechanism, but it is generally accepted. In fact, this part is called the transmission control drive rod.

What is a checkpoint link

Many drivers mistakenly believe that the backstage refers to the gear lever, but this is not entirely true. If we are talking about the gearbox rocker, we mean a composite mechanism, the task of which is to connect the gear lever and the stem. That is, the driver cannot see the backstage, let alone touch it. This element is located between the lever and the gearbox itself, and it is located under the bottom of the car, near the propeller shaft, and in some cases under the gear lever itself.

As can be understood from the description, the backstage regularly has to deal with serious loads, so this element must have good strength. Despite this, the wings are prone to damage. If there are not enough lubricating components in it, drops of water, dust or other "garbage" have got into it, there is a high risk of failure of the part.

Please note: On some cars, the backstage can work 200-300 or even more than a thousand kilometers without replacement. But, if we take the average result, usually the gearbox link fails at 100 thousand kilometers of operation.

Signs of wear on the gearbox

The driver must pay attention to the possible failure of the vehicle's components, including the characteristic signs of wear on the gearbox backstage in order to take timely action to replace it. Despite the fact that the mechanism is quite reliable, you should be aware of the following "symptoms" of its imminent breakdown:

Drivers often ignore the appearance of play in the gearbox, believing that this is a normal situation. In fact, if there is a backlash, it is imperative to diagnose the gearbox, and if necessary, adjust or replace the rocker. The fact is that a slight backlash is already a fairly serious symptom of a malfunction of the gearbox backstage. If it is “torn off” while the car is moving, this can lead to serious consequences for both the car and the driver, since there is a high risk of getting into an accident in such a situation. That is why, if you notice the presence of problems with the gearshift of the gearbox, be sure to contact the service center for diagnostics and repair of the backstage, if necessary.

Gearbox adjustment

It is not always necessary to completely or partially replace the backstage. Quite often, you can limit yourself to a simple adjustment. At the same time, it is possible to adjust the backstage with your own hands, without contacting a service center. There are two ways to adjust:

It is worth noting that the general processes for adjusting the gearbox backstage are described above. It is important to say that the process may differ depending on the car, so before starting work, it is recommended that you read the instructions specifically for your car model.
