Honda SRV 4th generation engine oil. How to change the oil in a Honda SRV? What kind of oil to fill

The fourth generation Honda CR-V is a compact Japanese SUV that is very popular in the Russian market. The car is well in demand with an automatic transmission, which provides comfort in the city and ease of control. But in order for the transmission to always please its owner, it must be serviced in a timely manner. Fortunately, some procedures with this automatic transmission can be performed independently. For example, change the oil in the box. This procedure does not require professional skills. To do this, a set of hand tools, as well as special materials, will be enough. Let us consider in detail how to change the oil in an automatic transmission Honda CR-V 4.

When to change the oil?

The transmission fluid in an automatic transmission changes depending on the mileage. The manufacturer claims that under favorable conditions, the replacement schedule is 40-50 thousand kilometers. But in harsh operating conditions, the replacement frequency is strongly recommended to be reduced to 30 thousand km. In extreme cases, you have to change the factory oil for the first time after 15 thousand kilometers, and when buying a used car, you need to change the oil right away - it’s more reliable, safer, and more confident that the box will last as long as possible.

Should I flush the box?

Definitely worth it. Over time, the oil loses its lubricating properties and is no longer able to cool the internal components of the gearbox, which as a result overheat and wear out quickly. At the same time, dirt deposits and metal chips accumulate inside the box - a consequence of mechanical wear of parts.

Please note that some configurations of the Honda CR-V are not equipped with a removable sump, so a lot of dirt quickly accumulates in the gearbox. All this turbidity also clogs the oil filter, which also has to be changed.

If these problems are ignored for a long time, sooner or later the gearbox will become unusable. Even at the dealership, they may refuse to take on the repair of the gearbox, and they will advise you to replace the box with a new one. Therefore, you need to check and change the oil regularly, at least every 20 thousand km.

Partial oil change

This procedure is considered the most common, since it does not take much time, and it is quite enough for the gearbox to last throughout the operation of the car.

What to fill?

The most correct automatic transmission oil for the 4th generation Honda CR-V is ATF DW1. Alternatively, ATF Z1 can also be recommended.

Replacement materials

  • Tools, keys and sockets
  • Rags, gloves
  • New oil
  • New oil filter
  • Container for draining old oil

Sequence of work

  1. The engine warms up, the car is put on a flyover. Alternatively, a flyover or viewing hole is suitable
  2. Let the engine run for a minute, turn it off, then open the hood and measure the level of remaining oil in the automatic transmission
  3. At a suitable place under the bottom of the car, the crankcase must be removed to gain access to the oil filter, which must be replaced. Also in this place there is a drain plug, it must be unscrewed and the waste liquid drained into a pre-prepared pan. This must be done carefully, as hot oil can cause burns. Please note that the drain plug (for draining the oil) is unscrewed using a 3/8 square
  4. Wait until the oil has completely drained from the automatic transmission. About 3.5 liters of old oil should pour out
  5. Metal chips and dirt may remain on the drain plug, it must be cleaned with a special WD-40 compound. In addition, there is an aluminum washer in the plug, it should also be replaced with a new one.
  6. Install the plug in place, and proceed to fill in new gear oil. To do this, you need a hose or funnel. Alternatively, a special syringe will do. A hose should be connected to it, which, in turn, should be inserted into the filler neck, after removing the dipstick from it. Note that the new fluid must be filled in as much as the old oil has flowed out.
  7. It's better to underfill oil a little than overfill it. You can top up later, after starting the engine. Then a control measurement is made, and the liquid is added as needed. Some craftsmen believe that the oil should be at a level between the Max and Min marks on the dipstick - this is considered the most optimal level.
  8. After a week, you can measure the fluid level again

The Czech brand Skoda brought the Karoq crossover to Russia, and now it will be more fun and hot in terms of competition in the segment of small and relatively affordable SUVs. Karoq has the same dimensions as the Hyundai Creta and Nissan Qashqai - so which of them will the new Czech cross take a part of the market from?

Characteristics. This Skoda Karoq was already assembled in the Russian Federation, at the facilities of GAZ, - the Czech automaker did not bring the cross to the Russian car market for a long time, until it completed the debugging of localized production. Now all the main parameters of Karoq for Russians are known: 1.6 liter (atmospheric) and 1.4 liter (turbo) engines tested and assembled by us, traditional manual transmission and DSG robotic transmission, as well as a traditional 8-speed "automatic".

In the Skoda lineup, the Karoq crossover has taken the empty position of the Yeti model that has left the market. At the same time, the novelty is larger and more solid in design. In the interior of the model there is a 3-spoke steering wheel, a front panel with an integrated display of the infotainment complex, a traditional climate control unit. The plastic of the front panel is made of a soft material, but the door cards, on the contrary, are hard.

With a length of 4382 mm, the rear seats turned out to be very spacious, the high front seats make it possible to freely position the feet, people of average height will not rest on their knees.

There are no surprises with the Karoq engine line - for Russia they chose Russian-assembled engines: a 1.6-liter atmospheric with a capacity of 110 hp. With. and a 1.4-liter turbocharged return of 150 hp. With.

A set of options for Karoq makes it possible to equip the car to the very maximum - a lane keeping system, LED optics, an electronic differential lock simulation, a driving mode selection system, an Off-road package, keyless entry, an adaptive cruise, a parking assistant. All this, of course, will give a significant increase in the cost of the car, but you should focus on the price of medium configurations.

So, the Ambition package costs 1,515,000 rubles, at the same time, the cost of the minimum Active variation and the top Style has not yet been announced. What do we have for these 1.5 million: 1.4 liter engine, front-wheel drive system, hydraulic automatic, leather multifunction steering wheel, climate control, a small 6.5-inch display of the Swing multimedia system.

Outcome. Based on the foregoing, we can conclude that the new product from the Czech brand will obviously be able to compete with Hyundai Creta and Nissan Qashqai, and even outperform them in some respects. But still, the final decision always remains with the buyer.

Replacement intervals

For Honda SRV RD1 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and other years of manufacture, the manufacturer advises changing the lubricant at least after 15 thousand kilometers. This rule for changing the fluid in cars running on gasoline or diesel is relevant when the vehicle is operated under ideal conditions. If the car is used in a big city and often works in start-stop mode (in traffic jams) or on roads with high dust content, then the replacement frequency should be reduced to at least 10 thousand km. The optimal oil change interval is 7500-10000 km.

User Yuri Danger talked about how the lubricant is changed in a Honda SRV car.

The replacement interval may be lower if the following symptoms appear:

  1. The power unit began to work louder than usual. If the rubbing parts are lubricated normally, then during operation they will not make extraneous sounds. When using old oil that has lost its properties, the motor will run an order of magnitude louder, this is especially evident when it starts. If the fluid does not have the original characteristics, the internal combustion engine elements are subject to more friction. When the level of lubrication in the system decreases, the driver may hear the sounds of metal parts. This indicates that the volume of liquid in the unit has decreased to critical. The owner of the car needs to urgently change the lubricant or add it to the system.
  2. The motorist sees or feels the exhaust gases. In terms of environmental friendliness, modern cars are vastly superior to older cars with worn out engines. As a result of equipping power units with catalytic converters and improving design features, a properly functioning engine will not emit exhaust. When using high-quality lubrication, transparent exhaust gases come out of the muffler. If an exhaust similar to smoke appears from the pipe, this may indicate the use of low-quality oil that has lost its properties. The exhaust gases should not smell of burnt grease.
  3. The engine became unstable. In the used oil, microparticles are formed that clog the filter element. Therefore, the circulation of the lubricant through the system is disrupted, as a result of which the power unit cannot operate at a constant speed. When you press the gas pedal, there are slight dips at first.
  4. The appearance of an indicator in the form of an oil can on the dashboard of a car. The reason for the light on the icon on the shield may be different, but usually it is associated with a lack of engine fluid in the lubrication system.

Which oil is better to choose?

Let us dwell in detail on which oil is suitable for the Honda CRV. The manufacturer recommends filling B20B motors with original fluids. This refers to the product Honda Ultra LTD 5W 30 SM. The original is released in Japan and the USA. American-made oil - Honda 5W30. On average, the cost of a Japanese liquid varies around 1,800 rubles for a four-liter bottle and about 1,500 rubles for American oil in the same canister.

Original product for Honda lubrication system

Since 2007, the Honda manufacturer has allowed the use of lubricants from the Mobil 1 concern. It is allowed to pour Honda Gold oil into the engine of a Japanese car. You can find it on the domestic market, although there are difficulties in this. This product is not popular among our motorists because of its high cost. The manufacturer does not recommend using Castrol, Shell, Chevron, Zik or Eneos oils in the engines of their cars. These products leave a large amount of deposits and soot on the inner walls of the engine, which negatively affects the further operation of the internal combustion engine. Especially, the manufacturer does not recommend using oils produced in Russia in Honda engines.

For Honda SRV 5 2002-2006 with gasoline engines, the manufacturer advises using fluids that meet the API SJ or SL standard. The viscosity class is unimportant, it depends on the climatic operating conditions. For cars SRV 3 of 2007-2012 with gasoline engines supplied to Europe, it is allowed to use fluids of the ACEA A1 / B1, A3 / B3 or A5 / B5 standard. If the machines are not supplied to European countries, then the requirements for oils are different - the product must be with the API SL specification or higher. The viscosity class here also does not matter.

In diesel engines, the use of Honda SRV Motor Oil or other oil that meets the ACEA C2 or C3 standard is allowed. 2013 SRW 4 models with petrol ICEs supplied to Europe must use ACEA A3/B3, A5/B5 class fluids. If the car will not be operated in European countries, then the lubricant standard must be API SM, Honda SRV Motor Oil oils are allowed. 2015 and 2.4 liter gasoline engines are filled with ACEA A1 / B1, A3 / B3 or A5 / B5 class fluids. In diesel units, the use of Honda Diesel Oil 1 lubricants or products of the ACEA C2 and C3 standard is allowed.

Filter selection

To change the oil, you need to choose a high-quality filter that can filter out contaminants from the engine fluid. According to official regulations, the use of Honda filter devices is recommended. In their absence, it is allowed to use oil filters Bosch, VIK, Sakura, PIAA, Japanparts, Kamoka, AMC, Starline, Clean Filters, Profit, etc.

According to user reviews, original filters, as well as Bosch products, are considered the best options.

Level control and required volume

To understand how much lubricant you need to fill in the motor, read the technical manual, it contains all the recommendations regarding its volume. About 4 liters of liquid are poured into two-liter power units, about 5 liters of lubricant must be poured into 2.4-liter engines. To control the level, open the hood of the car and find the dipstick installed in the motor. Remove it and clean it with a rag from oil residues; level diagnostics are performed on a cold engine. Then put the dipstick back in and pull it out again. Ideally, the lubricant level should be between the two marks MIN and MAX. If there is more oil, it must be drained; if there is less, add it.

DIY oil change

You can change the oil in a 2nd, 3rd or 4th generation Honda SRV engine yourself.

Tools and materials

Prepare in advance:

  • fresh oil;
  • filtering device;
  • new seal for the drain hole;
  • set of wrenches;
  • filter puller, chain or screwdriver;
  • a container that will be used to collect used grease - a bucket, a basin or a cut bottle.

User Andrey Florida clearly showed the process of replacing lubricant in a Honda SRV engine.

Action algorithm

  1. Drive the car into a garage with a pit or onto a flyover. If possible, use a lift, it will be more convenient. Wait a while, let the engine cool down, but the unit must not be cold. Since warm oil has the ideal viscosity to drain maximum fluid from the system.
  2. Climb under the bottom of the vehicle, on the cylinder block you will see a hole that is used to drain the grease. Place a container under it to collect the waste product. Unscrew the plug with a wrench, this will cause the liquid to begin to drain from the internal combustion engine. It will take at least half an hour to drain the mining.
  3. When the grease is drained, tighten the hole plug and open the filler neck. Through it, add about 4-5 liters of flushing oil to the engine, depending on the volume of the power unit. Screw on the cap and start the engine to warm it up. You can perform a test drive or turn on all the gears on the box one by one, adding gas to increase the number of revolutions. This will allow the flushing agent to disperse through all channels of the oil system.
  4. Repeat the drain procedure and evaluate the quality of the fluid. If the flush is too dirty, wear products, soot or deposits remain in it, the cleaning process must be repeated. But usually once is enough to remove contaminants.
  5. Tighten the drain plug, after installing a new gasket on it, and start dismantling the filter. Try to unscrew it by hand. If it doesn't come out, use a puller. If there is no tool, pierce the filter device closer to its bottom with a screwdriver, away from the thread, so as not to damage the engine elements. Unscrew the filter counterclockwise using the tool as a lever.
  6. Install a new filter in the seat, after pouring about 100 grams of engine oil into it. In the thread area on the device there is a rubberized flange that must be lubricated with liquid. This is done so that during operation the filter does not stick to the installation site. Otherwise, subsequent removal will cause difficulties.
  7. Through the filler neck, add oil to the system corresponding to the nominal volume. The liquid level is controlled using a dipstick. It is necessary to ensure that the amount of lubricant is between the MIN and MAX marks.
  8. Screw on the filler cap and carry out a test drive. Then again drive the car into the garage and after 30 minutes check the oil level in the engine. Add lubricant if necessary. Also check the drain plug for fluid leakage.

Honda CR-V is an abbreviation for a compact car for travel and recreation. Produced by Honda since 1995. Today, the model is produced at facilities in Canada, the USA, Russia, Japan, China, Europe and other countries. The line has five generations and today we will consider the fourth generation service, produced from 2012 to 2016.

Servicing 2013 CR-Vs is almost the same as other brands. Same engine oil change. The manufacturer recommends changing the oil every 15,000 km, but in practice it is better to do this a couple of thousand earlier. Along with the liquid, the cleaning filter must also change.

What kind of oil to pour and how much?

Owners of the 2013 Honda CR-V mostly pour the branded Honda 0W-20, but you can also pour the generic synthetic 5W-30. Brand choice is not critical. You can take any more or less normal company that is available on the market.

Regarding the distance before replacement, it is better if the car is operated by 80-90% in the city to do maintenance already at 8-10 thousand.
