". Which tires are better for the "nine?" Disk dimensions VAZ 2109 r13

Let's face it, regular VAZ 2109 wheels with a dimension of 175/70 R13 visually do not look particularly impressive. It's all about the high height of the rubber profile with a visually small diameter of the disk itself. Therefore, motorists often have a question: is it possible to put larger diameter wheels, 14 or even 15 inches, on the VAZ 2109 without compromising the performance of the car and passing the next technical inspection? You will find the answer to this question by reading this article.

Is it possible to install R14 or R15 wheels on a VAZ 2109

So, you can install R14 wheels on the VAZ 2109, 2108, 21099, 2114, 2115. In this case, the disc parameters should be 5, 5.5 or 6 inches wide, and have a reach of 35-40 mm. It can be set with the same parameters. Other disc parameters: holes 4x98 mm, diameter central hole not less than 58.5 mm.

At the same time, it will be necessary to choose the appropriate size rubber so that the overall diameter of the wheel remains approximately the same. Otherwise, when turning the wheel, the tire will touch the fender liner or suspension elements, which, of course, we do not need.

How to make the necessary calculations

Permissible tire sizes for 14-inch wheels: 175/65 R14 and 185/60 R14. Moreover, the second option is preferable.

However, the diameter of the wheel can be calculated very simply if you know how the rubber characteristics are deciphered. Let's do it for the VAZ 2109.

Take a standard wheel 175/70 R13.
175 - tire width in millimeters;
70 - the height of the rubber profile as a percentage of the width, that is, in our case
175 x 0.70 = 122.5 mm

Disc diameter 13 inches = 13 x 25.4 = 330 mm.

The total wheel diameter is the sum of the rim diameter and two profile heights.
Total 330 + 122.5 x 2 = 575 mm.

Having similarly made calculations, we obtain the following figures for comparison:

  • 175/70 R13 - 575 mm;
  • 175/65 R14 - 583 mm;
  • 185/60 R14 - 577 mm.

We see that the last option is the most suitable. It is also 10 mm wider, which will provide us with a smaller braking distances due to the increased contact patch with the road, better handling, resistance to rubber breaking in corners at high speeds due to the reduced profile height. But at the same time, a wide tire is more prone to hydroplaning at high speed than the same size, but narrower. Also, impacts from the passage of road potholes will be more strongly transmitted to the car body with low profile wheels.

Wheel selection table

In confirmation of their words, data on acceptable sizes rims can be found in the factory.

Wheels with a larger radius, for example, 15 inches in diameter, will also fit the Samara, but they are not recommended by the factory, so there may be problems with passing the inspection. For such wheels, you should choose rubber with a dimension of 185/55 R15. With a stretch, 195/50 R15 will also pass, but it’s better to play it safe and try it on if your friends have similar ones. In this case, the wheel may “rub” already due to the too wide rubber.

Any owner of a VAZ-2109 sooner or later has a question: what is the bolt pattern on the disks of their car? It is usually asked at the moment when they begin to think about replacing these important wheel elements that ensure traffic safety and image appeal. vehicle.

In general, the concept of “bolt pattern” means the distance that runs from the center of one disc mounting hole to another. For the most part, this parameter is the same for all products of the Volga Automobile Plant, but in general, no standard values \u200b\u200bare developed. Therefore, for different manufacturers, the holes for the bolts on the hubs are located unequally.

Razboltovka - dimensions

If you purchase discs with a smaller ET value, then the grip on the road surface will increase significantly, which means:

  • manageability will deteriorate;
  • fuel consumption will increase;
  • wheel bearing wear will accelerate.

Is it possible to put discs 4×100

This option can often be seen on the VAZ-2109. However, in reality, this decision is not correct.

The problem is that the standard bolt pattern of the model in question differs relatively slightly from the factory one. It seems to many that these couple of millimeters do not matter. However, a 4×100 disc cannot be properly fixed with ordinary bolts. They have a thickening (under the head) - it is this that does not allow you to wrap the fasteners completely. Moreover, if you try to do this by force, most likely, you will break the threads in the hub.

Is it possible to install R14 wheels (or even more) on the VAZ-2109? How will this affect the behavior of the car and will there be any problems with the traffic police?

Wheels with a tire diameter of 14 inches can be installed on the "VAZ" "Samara". But at the same time, other disk dimensions (width and offset) should not exceed certain values, otherwise, in corners and at maximum vehicle load, the wheels will touch the wheel arches and suspension elements. The "bottleneck" place VAZ-2108, -09, -099 - rear arches and suspension, which often "conflict" with oversized wheels.

For Samar, stamped steel discs 5 or 5.5 inches wide with an offset (ET parameter) of 38 - 40 mm are suitable. You can also install alloy wheels. In this case, the width of the disc should be 6 inches, and the ET should be 33 or 35 mm. In this case, a tire with a dimension of 175/65 R14 is used - for example, such as in the factory equipment of a VAZ-2110 car or Skoda Fabia. It is possible to use tires with a width of 165 and 185 mm.

In addition, it is allowed to install on "nine" and "eight" and 15-inch wheels - subject to the use of disks with ET equal to 30 - 35 mm, and with sufficiently low-profile tires 185/55 R15. Ride "eights" and with wheels 195/50 R15. But even more “cool” tires 195/55 R15 and 205/50 R15 are installed only on the front axle or simultaneously with the refinement of the suspension or wheel arches.

Based on the operating experience of the “re-shod” Samar, we can say that the recommended tire size for R15 rims is 195/50, and for R14 - 185/60.

We also recall that for any "VAZ" disks, the diameter of the circumference of the location of the four mounting bolts (PSD) is 98 mm, which is coded in the catalogs as 4x98. The diameter of the central hole in the disks for Togliatti cars should not be less than 58.5 mm.

Installing low-profile tires allows you to improve the vehicle's handling when maneuvering and increase the speed of cornering. Low bead tires crumple less with lateral loads on the tire, and the steering becomes “sharper”, and the car deviates less from the trajectory. But such wheels absorb defects in the roadway worse and transfer more shock loads to the body when driving over bumps. In addition, a tire with a low profile, even when driving through a pothole at low speed, is easy to “break through” to the disc, the edge of which can be crushed up to complete failure.

It should be noted that the rules traffic prohibit the operation of vehicles with tires whose size "does not correspond to the model of the vehicle." However, the practice of operating tuned VAZs shows that traffic police officers usually have no complaints about 14-inch wheels - obviously, due to the fact that Lada-2110s are equipped with “14” wheels at the factory, similar in chassis to “eights” and “ nines." But with fifteen-inch wheels, the likelihood of "running into" trouble during the inspection is higher.

There comes a time when the motorist needs to replace the rims. This is mainly done for safety purposes, sometimes - in order to create the image of the owner of the car. Different disks are suitable for the VAZ 2109, however, their choice must be made according to the recommendations of the car manufacturer, as well as your own preferences.

Disc sizes

At the factory, the VAZ 2109 is equipped with disks with dimensions 175/70 R13. Unfortunately, they don't look very attractive. They need to wear rubber with a large profile. Rims with a small diameter are practically invisible behind such a tire.

To solve this problem, you should first find out which larger disks can be installed on the VAZ 2109, because today the market has a very large range of models with sizes R14 - R15.

If such a rim is installed on a car, will it remain specifications? Is it possible to pass inspection on such wheels?

R14 wheels are allowed to be mounted on models:

  • 2109,
  • 2108,
  • 21099,
  • 2114,

On all vehicles, the wheel width must not exceed 6 inches. In this case, the departure should be within 35-40 millimeters.

It is allowed to install cast products, as well as forged structures, with the above parameters. The center hole on the discs must be greater than or equal to 58.5 millimeters.

For such models, you will have to specially select rubber so that after its installation there is no change in the diameter of the wheel. Otherwise, when the car starts to turn, the tire may touch the suspension parts, the fender liner may touch.

Experts advise installing tires with dimensions on R14 wheels:

  • 175/65 R14,
  • 185/60R14.

The final option is considered more preferable.

Diameter calculation

In principle, each driver can calculate the wheel diameter independently. To do this, he must be well able to decipher the existing rubber markings, for example, let's calculate a wheel with dimensions 175/70 R13 for nine:

  • 175 - tire width indicator (mm).
  • 70 - the size of the tread height. Is taken percentage value from the existing width. In this example: 175x0.7 = 122.5 mm.
  • R13 is the disc diameter. Calculated: 13 x 25.4 = 330 millimeters.

To get the wheel diameter, you need to add the disc diameter to the profile height, multiplied by two:

330 + 122.5 x 2 = 575 mm.

If we carry out calculations of other wheels, we get:

  • 175/65 R14 - 583,
  • 185/60 R14 - 577 mm.

The last option is considered the best. The tire is ten millimeters wider. The contact patch of such rubber is much larger, which means that the braking distance will decrease.

The car will be more stable and much easier to drive. Rubber will not break when turning at high speed.

However, with all the positive aspects, there are several disadvantages. wide tire has the effect of hydroplaning when the movement occurs at high speed. On narrow tires, this effect is absent.

In the cabin, shocks will be felt from hitting potholes due to the low profile height. The recommended dimensions of the disks must be indicated in technical documentation car.

Large disk elements

Discs with big size(15 inches) can be installed on the Samara. However, the manufacturer does not recommend doing this, so problems may occur during the technical inspection.

Tires 185/55 R15 are suitable for such wheels. Of course, you can try to install 195/50 R15. All measurements must be taken prior to installation. It is possible that the wheel will begin to “rub”, as the width of the rubber is too large.

Installation of a non-standard wheel disc must take into account the driving style of the car. For example, fans of fast driving can be advised to install strong and at the same time light discs on the “nine”, since heavy ones will not allow you to develop good speed.

Car enthusiasts with little money don't really need expensive alloy rims. To make the car look attractive, it is enough to install beautiful caps, the cost of which is affordable for every motorist.

Replacing discs is a natural step for owners of any car. Even those who prefer to ride on factory wheels will not be able to operate them forever. And when the old ones become unusable, the question arises - what to buy to replace them.

Kinds

Analyzing the wheel disk market, the entire range can be divided into three types:

  • Steel stamped;
  • Light alloy cast;
  • Lightweight forged.

Many cars, including the VAZ 2109, were equipped with stamped discs from the factory. Outwardly, they are completely unattractive, over time they lose their external characteristics. Let's be honest, this is a relic of the past.

But at the same time, steel stampings have their advantages, because of which this type of disc is still produced and is in great demand among consumers:

  • Affordable price. These are the cheapest options available today;
  • High levels of strength. Considering the quality of our roads, many people think first of all about quality, safety, and not external data;
  • Reliability. They do not have to be changed almost every season, which results in impressive savings;
  • With strong impacts, the stampings do not break or crack. Maximum crumple, which opens up opportunities for restoration, restoration;
  • Easily removed and changed without assistance.

But let's be completely honest. With all of them positive qualities, disgusting appearance makes car owners give up reliability and durability in favor of image, external attractiveness. And do not think that light-alloy options are absolutely fragile and break only from one type of pit.

Alloy

If we talk about alloy wheels, they are made, you guessed it, from special light alloys.

In total, three types of alloys are used.

alloy type

Peculiarities

titanium

An excellent choice in all respects, except for the price. These are the most expensive alloy wheels, yet they last a long time, are reliable and just look great.

Aluminum

Many put aluminum alloy in first place, given the external characteristics, strength indicators and availability. An important advantage of aluminum is that it is not afraid of corrosion. With proper maintenance, aluminum alloy lasts a long time and maintains the beautiful appearance of the car.

When choosing alloy wheel sets, be sure to compare their strengths and weak sides. Appearance is far from the only criterion that you need to pay attention to when buying.

Advantages and disadvantages of light alloy

Compared to steel wheels, opting for light-alloy options provides car owners with a fairly extensive list of benefits. But it is also important to know about the cons.

Advantages

disadvantages

  • Attractive, modern appearance that allows you to distinguish discs from competitors and monotonous stamped products;
  • Reduces the weight of the non-sprung part;
  • Allows you to implement original design ideas;
  • Effectively cools the brake assembly;
  • In the manufacture, maximum accuracy is observed, which has a positive effect on balancing, tire wear;
  • During production, they are covered with anti-corrosion compounds, which allows you not to be afraid of driving even on snowy roads sprinkled with salt or other reagents
  • The material is quite fragile, therefore, with strong impacts, cracks appear or the disk breaks altogether;
  • It is impossible to repair light-alloy products, unlike stamped steel;
  • You can damage the disk in the simplest situation, for example, when parking a car;
  • When choosing products from dubious manufacturers, there is a high probability of getting into a factory defect;
  • The discs do not absorb shocks, which causes the suspension of the car to suffer more, it is affected by additional loads

Operating rules

  1. Try to avoid bumps, which requires more careful driving.
  2. Park carefully, be careful where you park your car.
  3. Avoid hitting holes, potholes. This is dangerous for a car with any wheels, but if the stamping can still be restored later, the light alloy will have to be sent to a landfill.
  4. When driving on rails, do not pick up a lot of speed. Impacts on metal can cause not only disk deformation, but also suspension failure.

Marking and parameters

The marking indicated on rims, is of three types:

  • European;
  • Russian;
  • American.

The difference between them is not significant, plus the information is always the same, only sometimes with different ways designations.

When choosing wheels for the VAZ 2109, you need to stick to the choice of products with the following parameters.

Parameter

Features and Requirements

Here we are talking about the width of the rim and the diameter. For nines, it is important to use discs where the diameter and width of the rim have such parameters - 5.5 by 13.5, 5.5 by 14 or 6 by 14 inches. It is possible to install disks with a large diameter, only this will affect the technical characteristics, control complexity, fuel consumption and other parameters

This is the number of holes designed to fix the disk and the distance between them. For VAZ 2109, the required parameter is 98/4

This is the diameter of the center hole. For VAZ 2109, it is 58.1 mm

This is a flight. Requires +40. Choosing rims with a shorter offset will increase traction, resulting in harder steering, faster wheel bearing wear and increased consumption fuel

Focus on these key parameters when choosing a new set. Plus, do not forget about the role of the quality of the products themselves.

When choosing a set of new stampings or light alloys, be sure to pay attention to the following points.

  1. All alloy wheels must be certified, supplemented with a quality mark and x-ray control.
  2. All discs must be marked by the regulatory authority and a document confirming that the discs have passed quality control and compliance with applicable standards.
  3. The product indicates the maximum load that the disc can handle.
  4. The name, and other information about the manufacturer is quite obvious information that you can and should read on the disk.
  5. Production heat number, production method, marking and date of manufacture. If not, look for a kit in another store. This is clearly a fake or dubious batch.

Storage rules

Many car owners purchase two sets of wheels, one of which is used in winter and the other in summer. This allows you not to throw rubber every time from one set to another.

But leaving the wheels in the garage or elsewhere for a long time, you risk losing their original quality, since the storage rules have not been followed.

And they are quite simple.

  1. Do not just throw the kit somewhere in the corner where there is space.
  2. Before storing, mark the wheels so you know where the front left, rear right, and so on.
  3. Store wheels exclusively in a dry, cool and dark place. In the immediate vicinity of the tires should not be chemicals, gasoline, oil. These components are capable of destroying the structure of the wheels over time, therefore their service life is noticeably reduced.
  4. If the tires are stored with the rims, they must not be kept in a standing position. Hang or place horizontally. Many experts advise using wooden pallets.
  5. If the rubber is stored separately, it is located vertically. Moreover, the tires should be rotated once a month so that the pressure does not deform the compound. Do not hang or stack tires on top of each other.
  6. Before storing, inspect the projectors, remove all pebbles, stuck pebbles.
  7. Carefully check the condition of the wheels before installing them for the new season.

Wheels are not just a visual decoration for a car. In many ways, safety, reliability of the suspension, fuel consumption and a number of other parameters depend on their quality and the correct choice.
