Each has its own size. What will the new license plates look like?

Views: 7370

Starting next year, ten new types of license plates will be introduced, including upgraded motorcycle plates.

Another legislative innovation is reported by the Kommersant publication, which has read the text of the relevant document. It is assumed that motorcyclists will be given much more compact plates - 190 by 145 mm instead of the current 245 by 160 mm. The fact is that motorcycles of foreign brands, of which the majority, have a small platform for a number and a Russian state sign simply does not fit on it. The old GOST of 1993 did not take this into account, and motorcyclists had to use adapters.

The innovations for two-wheelers will not be limited to this. For the first time, state signs for maxi-scooters will appear in the size, like motorcycle ones, 190 by 145 mm, but with a different combination of letters and numbers: AA55AA77RUS, while motorcycles have 5511AA77RUS. There are no plans yet to register traditional mopeds and scooters (with small engines and a speed limit of 50 km/h). There will also be special motorcycle numbers on a red background for employees of foreign diplomatic missions and even signs for ATVs.

Reduced registration plate for motorcycles

By the way, an interesting and long-awaited innovation is prepared for the owners of right-hand drive "Japanese" and American cars for domestic market, which have a platform under rear number non-standard, "square" - finally, it is planned to introduce a registration plate of the appropriate form.

Registration plates for classic (retro) cars and trucks (K) and registration plates for sports cars and trucks (C)

The other day we reported that Russia is developing car plate numbers new standard. Today, the first sketches of new license plates appeared on the network, as well as fresh details of the expected changes.

Sketches of new license plates were sent by the Russian Automobile Federation to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The changes will affect both automobile and motorcycle license plates. In particular, plates for motorcycles can be reduced in size, and American and Japanese cars will be given plates of a different format (since their standards for fixing numbers do not correspond to Russian ones).

Most motorcycles have a smaller number pad than the Russian badge. Therefore, the standard proposes to revise their dimensions. Sketches of new motorcycle numbers look like this.

And this is how the square-shaped signs for Japanese and American cars look like.

Rooms for classic and sports cars it is proposed to supplement with the letters "K" and "C", respectively.

These can be car license plates.

The possibility of transferring the region code from the right side of the number to the left, and even a complete rejection of the region code, is being considered.

Such numbers are proposed to be made for mopeds and bicycles.

Also among the initiatives are the replacement of metal license plates with polymer ones, equipping them with microchips, as well as revising the requirements for license plate areas that can be drilled for installation in non-standard places.

The revision of GOST-50577 is provided for in 2017. According to the latest data, public discussion of the first edition of the standard will begin in the fall of 2017, the final edition will be ready in the spring of 2018, and approval is scheduled for October 2018.

Good afternoon, dear reader.

This article will consider the new GOST R 50577-2018 "Signs of state registration vehicles. Types and main dimensions. Technical requirements", which replaces GOST R 50577-93 from August 4, 2020.

Initially, it was assumed that GOST would come into force on January 1, 2019, but the date was postponed several times. Currently, the order of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology states that the standard will come into force on August 4, 2020. However, there is a possibility of its early application.

GOST R 50577-2018 is positioned as a completely new standard, but in its structure it largely repeats the previous document. However, there are also important innovations that will be discussed today:

Non-standard numbers for cars

First of all, GOST introduces new numbers for cars with a non-standard attachment point ("square"):

3.2.1 Group 1 vehicles

The following types of license plates are installed:

  • type 1A - registration plates for cars, trucks and buses with a non-standard attachment point (except for those classified as type 1B);

An example of a similar "square" number:

Please note that the new type plate contains exactly the same combination of characters as the regular number. Its only difference is the writing of characters in 2 rows.

Numbers of a similar format are used in other countries (for example, in Japan). In order to fix a standard number on a car intended for the Japanese market in 2019, you need to use a special adapter. Starting from August 4, 2020, two-line numbers will appear in the standard and an adapter will not be required to mount them.

In addition, the square number can be set only on the back vehicle (Appendix G to GOST):

1 On vehicles with a non-standard place for attaching registration plates, it is allowed to install a type 1A rear registration plate instead of a type 1 registration plate.

Thus, the driver in any case will have to use an extended license plate on the front of the car. But the format of the plate for the back can be chosen.

Number plates for mopeds in 2020

Note. In 2020, registration of mopeds with the traffic police is not required and numbers are not issued for them.

As for the content of GOSTs, they always provided numbers for mopeds. Old GOST 50577-93 suggested using motorcycle numbers for mopeds:

In GOST 50577-2018, a separate plate of a new type is allocated for mopeds:

The only difference is that the top row of the moped number uses 2 letters instead of 2 numbers.

Numbers for ATVs and snowmobiles

  • type 4A - registration plates for off-road motor vehicles not intended for movement on public roads (snow and swamp vehicles, all-terrain vehicles);

In this case, the situation is similar to the numbers for mopeds. Previously, ATVs and snowmobiles were issued the same numbers as motorcycles. In 2020, a separate type of plate is provided for them:

This number differs from the motorcycle number in that the upper and lower rows are reversed in it.

Number plates for classic cars

  • type 23 - registration plates for classic (retro) cars and trucks;
  • type 24 - registration plates for classic (retro) cars and trucks with a non-standard attachment point;
  • type 25 - registration plates for classic (retro) motorcycles;

Rooms for retro car additionally include the symbol "K".

At present, it is not known for which cars, in what cases and for what such numbers will be issued.

Numbers for sport bikes and cars

  • type 26 - registration plates for sports cars and trucks;
  • type 27 - registration plates for sports cars and trucks with a non-standard attachment point;
  • type 28 - registration plates for sports motorcycles.

Registration plates for sports vehicles include an additional character "C".

Number plates for motorcycles of diplomatic and consular offices

Another new version registration plate is intended for motorcycles of diplomatic and consular offices:

  • type 11 - registration plates for motorcycles of diplomatic missions, consular offices, including those headed by honorary consular officials, international (interstate) organizations and their employees accredited at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Russian Federation.

In conclusion, I want to draw attention to the fact that GOST establishes only appearance registration marks. The rules and conditions for issuing numbers should be regulated by other regulatory documents, which have not yet been amended.

Therefore, although GOST enters into force on August 4, 2020, it remains unknown when new types of numbers will begin to be issued.

I also want to note that the previously issued numbers don't need to change for new ones.

Good luck on the roads!

Hello. Initially, GOST R 50577-2018 "Signs for state registration vehicles. Types and main dimensions. Technical requirements" should have come into force on January 1, 2019. By order of Rosstandart dated 04.09.2018 No. No. 555-st. Then this order was amended by order of 12/18/2018. No. 1131-st on the postponement of entry into force from 01/01/2019. as of 04.08.2019 And now order No. 555-st has been amended by order of 07/23/2019. No. 423-st, namely, to replace the words "August 4, 2019" to the words "August 4, 2020 with the right of early application." It is clear that the transfer was made due to the large stocks of registration signs in the warehouses of the traffic police and Gostekhnadzor. Question: Does the wording "with the right of early application" give the right to legally apply to an organization that manufactures registration signs to make signs in accordance with the new GOST and install them on your car before 08/04/2020?

Paul, hello.

By itself, GOST does not give any additional rights to the driver, it only says what numbers can be.

Current legislation allows you to independently produce in the organization only numbers that correspond to previously issued plates. In order for signs of new variants to start being issued, the regulations traffic police describing the issuance of such signs.

For example, it is possible that in STS car with the new version of the numbers, some additional mark will be placed.

That is, the inscription "with the right of early application" only says that the traffic police can issue its regulatory documents earlier than August 4, 2020. After that, drivers will be able to get new form numbers.

Good luck on the roads!

"a square number can only be installed on the rear of the vehicle (Appendix G to GOST):". The note in Appendix G only allows installation on a vehicle with a non-standard sign attachment point different types signs forward and backward along with the usual setting of 2 identical types forward and backward numbers of type 1 or type A1. So you have 3 installation options:

1. two type 1 badges front and back

2. type 1 front and type A1 rear

3. two type A1 signs both in front and behind.

Good evening.

"GOST R 50577-2018. National standard of the Russian Federation. Signs of state registration vehicles. Types and main dimensions. Technical requirements" (approved by Order of Rosstandart dated 04.09.2018 N 555-st);

Annex A (mandatory); REGISTRATION SIGNS; Figure A.1 - Registration plate type 1 with a two-digit code of the region of registration (rectangular); Figure A.3 - Registration plate type 1A with a two-digit code of the region of registration (square)

Annex G, (mandatory); Requirements for the installation of state registration plates on vehicles; G.1 Each vehicle must be provided with places for installation of the following registration plates (except for signs of types 16 - 18): - one front and one rear - on cars, trucks and buses;.... The place for installing the license plate should be a flat vertical rectangular surface with geometric parameters that allow the installation of a registration plate of the appropriate type without its deformation.

Adding a comment

The next 2019 will be a year of change for the citizens of the Russian Federation: new pension legislation will come into force, the amounts of some social payments will change and new taxes will appear. In addition, car owners will have to face some changes.

This time it's not about changing the rules traffic, but about the new license plate format, which will be mandatory for all vehicles of a certain type. At the same time, radical changes are not expected - the government decided only to adjust the current GOST. So from January 2019, state signs on cars and motorcycles will be installed in a new size and shape.

Why and from what date are there changes?

There are several reasons why Rosstandart establishes a new number format. Firstly, the Russian Automobile Federation of the Russian Federation has long been talking about the need to introduce a special sign for classic vehicles. Its representatives are already engaged in the development of special rules governing the movement of these funds. And in order to bring these rules to life, it is first necessary to establish new principles for registering classic vehicles.

For imported motorcycles and cars, signs are reduced due to the fact that the domestic number plate is larger than the area provided for its installation. But in 2019, drivers won't have to bend the number plate or use adapters, as the new format will fit perfectly into the standard trim.

In addition, the line registration numbers narrows more and more every year, and the unique ones may end very soon. Therefore, it urgently needs to be expanded for some types of vehicles.

Is it necessary to change numbers?

The project to update the GOST license plates began to be developed two years ago, but only from January 1, 2019 it will come into force. The installation of new types of state signs will be mandatory for all categories of vehicles affected by the changes, in particular vintage cars, sports and classic models, American and Japanese cars, as well as mopeds and motorcycles.

Latest news: what will change?

  • Signs of vintage cars, as well as in the case of standard cars, will be marked with the letter "K" - a classic. A line separates it from other characters. The innovation will affect both cars and trucks.
  • Sports cars will have the letter "C" on the numbers - sport. It will also be located in front of the numbers and will be separated from them by a line.
  • According to the new standards for foreign vehicles (Japanese and American cars), the size of the sign will be reduced to 290x170 mm.
  • Owners of foreign motorcycles will set numbers in the size of 190x145 mm, while 245x160 mm are currently used. The same badges will become mandatory for mopeds and maxi-scooters whose engine capacity exceeds 50 cc, as well as ATVs, but with a slightly different structure.
  • Also, after production, each sign will be assigned a special non-repeating code, consisting of 12 characters. It will encrypt information about the manufacturer, release date, sale, and so on.
  • According to the new GOST, vehicle owners will be able to drill additional holes on license plates. The main condition is that they do not go to the flag icon, numbers, letters and RUS code.

In the wake of rumors about the upcoming replacement of Russian license plates, Artemy Lebedev's studio presented its original development in this area. According to the founder of the design studio himself, such numbers can be found "soon on all roads of the country".

As part of the new format, the developers propose to use on license plates: 1 - a three-character abbreviation of the Russian region from the letters of the Latin alphabet, 2 - the color coat of arms of the region or city, 3 - a series of any two numbers, 4 - a free combination of four more allowed letters.

Artemy Lebedev's studio explains that the result will be about four and a half billion combinations, which will be enough for at least the next century.

In the license plates of the new format, only those letters are used that cannot be confused with each other in any way of reading. For example, only the letter "C" is used, while "S" is missing. It is also impossible to get a license plate with the letter "U", but "Y" is available.

It is important that attackers will not be able to quickly change the new number by drawing letters, because in addition to the ban on the use of the letters H, I, J, P, Q, S, U, V, W, the number is also written in a specially designed font, which is very difficult to fake .

GOST-50577, according to which the current car numbers are made, was released more than twenty years ago in 1993. Since then, due to a number of serious shortcomings, including low information content and the need to frequently enter new codes for different regions, there has been a need to change the current numbering system. For example, in Moscow alone, six different codes are already in use.

Interestingly, after the entry into force of the current GOST, motorists were allowed to use previously issued numbers of old samples. It is not surprising that even now Russian roads occasionally there are cars with Soviet license plates of both the 1980 model and the 1958 model. It is not surprising that the traffic police started talking about the imminent preparation of a new reform of license plates.
