Alfa Laval sold the first oil separator in 1916. In the prewar years, enterprises were formed in Denmark, South Africa, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, Poland, Yugoslavia and Ireland.

The company's first sales of self-cleaning separators begin in 1951.

In 1963 the company changes its name from AB Separator to Alfa-Laval AB. The name “Alfa” is derived from Alfa disks and “Laval” from the name of the founder of the company.

In subsequent years, the company has successfully developed in the areas of heating, cooling, separation (separation) and transportation of liquids in enterprises engaged in the production of food products, beverages, chemicals and petroleum products, medicines, starch, sugar, ethyl alcohol, etc. In addition, the company produces refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
