1 hour. Reading fault codes, collecting information, decoding, calculation.

An engine power limit on a Freelander 2 may occur to alert the driver to a problem with the air supply system or the fuel system. This is a general alert and cannot pinpoint the exact location of the problem.

AT fuel system and the air supply system, there are many different elements, if they fail, the same message "POWER LIMIT" will be displayed on the instrument panel. The difference may be the behavior of the car. The warning may be on, but the overall dynamics remain. Dynamics can be partially worsened. Or the car does not gain momentum at all and does not develop power. But even this is not enough to make a correct verdict.

Traditionally, the Nezavisimost group of companies helped us to understand the potential malfunctions of the Evoque, and it is worth noting that some of the complaints were not confirmed in the official statistics. However, we nevertheless found several "sores", and all of them - as a selection: in theory, any of them will make you think about whether it is worth contacting the Ewok. is it so bad? Let's find out now!

Burning pistons on a 2.0 Si4 engine

Let's start right away with heavy artillery. Burning pistons sounds threatening, and this alone can scare many people away from buying a car. Unfortunately, this problem is all too familiar to some owners of two-liter Si4 Ewoks. In the family compact crossovers Land Rover this engine replaced the flagship 3.2-liter six-cylinder unit, which was installed on the Freelander model. An economical, compact, powerful and high-torque motor that provides excellent dynamics - it would seem, what else is needed?

But reliability is also needed, and it was with this point that the Si4 motor did not immediately go smoothly. Burning Jackie Chan, uneven engine operation and smoke from exhaust pipe have become classic potential companions of the engine, and any of these signs could mean either burnt pistons or broken partitions between the rings. This happened, as a rule, during dynamic driving, that is, the piston group simply could not withstand the increased loads.

In "Independence", however, they reassure: the problem is solved, but it consisted in incorrect software. Alla Martynova, technical director of the Jaguar Land Rover and Volvo business unit, said that the manufacturer solved the problem by replacing the engine control unit software as part of a service campaign, so at present such a malfunction should not occur with a gasoline Evoque.

intercooler pipe burst

"... 2 days ago we encountered such a problem as power limitation. This is when you drive, you drive, and the speed drops sharply to 40 km / h and no longer allows you to accelerate. And the most interesting thing is that it happened on two cars at once on the same day Before that, I just didn’t let it accelerate, but on the second car the icon was on, and it let me go, and then it disappeared altogether ... ", - says user Natalia on the www.range-rover-evoque.ru forum.

If owners of gasoline Evoques could be scared by burning pistons, then diesel Evoque TD4s have another horror story - a bursting intercooler pipe. He turned out to be too warm-hearted, and in very coldy dubel, cracked and lost its tightness.

As the user VALIUM writes on the same range-rover-evoque.ru forum, this pipe “if it doesn’t burst now, it will definitely burst”, and advises replacing the original part with an analogue from ... KamAZ. It is made of silicone and is much less susceptible to temperatures and loads.

In Nezavisimost, however, they are much more optimistic: they can do without KamAZ trucks, since the problem has already been solved. "This complaint has been diesel engines in a very narrow range VIN numbers. The problem was in the quality of components - it was solved by the manufacturer as part of a service campaign. For gasoline engines, the problem is not relevant," says Alla Martynova.

Knocking when maneuvering at low speeds

"Bucket with English bolts!", the owners sometimes grumble after meeting with a "speed bump" or during maneuvers in a bumpy parking lot. At times, the Evoque can "jump" off its dignified British gait and start to noticeably creak and rumble on bumps with all its suspension - both front and rear.

"When speed bumps pass at a very low speed, a dull single knock appears (as if there is play in the movement of shock absorbers or levers) and, interestingly, both in the front and in rear suspension. The sound is heard at the moment the wheel rolls onto the speed bump...", says user Mikhail77777 on the range-rover-evoque.ru forum.

Official dealers were familiar with this problem: the noisy suspension turned out to be unpleasant design feature, from which the manufacturer has already got rid of.

"The problem was solved by the manufacturer by replacing the suspension mounting elements with improved ones. As part of the service bulletin from the manufacturer," says Alla Martynova.

Gearbox not coming out

However, not all malfunctions, the mention of which can be found among the owners of the Evoque, have been confirmed by the officials. This happened, for example, with such a fashionable “trick” of Jaguar Land Rover as a gear selector washer. The selector gracefully hides in the same plane with the console, and when the engine starts, it smoothly moves back. Gears are switched by turning the puck. Very stylish and beautiful process! However, the problem is that sometimes this puck won't come out and the driver can't even move. Or - even more interesting - it crawls out, and then immediately coquettishly hides back, as if flirting.

Such electronics failures could be explained by low temperatures, however, judging by the reviews, the selector frills do not depend on the weather and season. Restart helped someone, but someone helped everyone possible ways went straight to the dealer.

According to representatives of "Independence", they have not met with such complaints. However, it is worth noting that a technical bulletin on this subject has been issued by the manufacturer - too many owners have complained that the switch does not rise or switch between modes. According to the bulletin, official dealers carried out diagnostics and reset of errors in the "brains", and if this did not help, then everything ended with a warranty replacement of this very washer - the so-called TRS unit (rotary gearbox switch).

Of course, the owners of classmates-competitors can gloat and be completely sure that they definitely made the right choice and bought the most reliable and trouble-free car. But perfect cars does not exist - and the fact that your favorite model has not yet appeared in this section means only one thing: we just haven't gotten to it yet.

First of all, I would like to note that below is an overview of the most common malfunctions. This in no way means that all this will certainly happen to your car. Also, over time, perhaps some sores will be added to the list.

The main malfunctions of the Range Rover Sport (2005-2013):

Engine 5.0L, petrol, supercharged:

Deterioration of the tensioner and damper of the timing chain. In the event of this malfunction, more recently there was a need to replace, including the timing chain. But in accordance with the recently released tech. bulletin, the need to replace the chain has disappeared.
Symptoms - extraneous noise from dv-la.
--- Malfunction supercharger.
Symptoms - extraneous noise from the supercharger. Repair method - installation of a special repair kit (at first it was necessary to change the supercharger assembly, later the manufacturer released a repair kit).
--- Malfunction of the water pump.
Symptoms - extraneous noise, pump leak.

Engine 4.2L, petrol, supercharged (Supercharged):

Additional pump of the cooling system. As a result, an error is fixed by the control unit and forced power limitation.
--- Thermostat failure.
Symptoms - the engine does not warm up to operating temperature or cools down quickly.
--- Malfunction of the heater radiator in the cabin.

Engine 4.4L, gasoline:

Valve of the crankcase ventilation system. Symptoms - smoke from the muffler, high flow oils in the engine.
--- Faulty lambda probes, problem with emission control system - only when not used quality fuel.

Engine 3.6l, turbodiesel:

Crack in the pipe / pipes from the intercooler to the intake manifold.
Symptoms - loss of power.
--- Faulty EGR valves.
Symptoms - failures during acceleration, loss of power.
--- Malfunction of fuel injectors (nozzles) appears when using low-quality fuel. Cleaning / restoration of injectors is impossible, if they fail, only replacement with new ones.
--- During long-term parking, the turbine drive may become soured. Sometimes it is possible to restore their performance without replacing the turbine.
--- Fuel pump in the tank.

Engine 3.0 diesel:

EGR shut-off valve located between the first and second turbine.
Symptoms of its malfunction are loss of power, an error in boost pressure.
--- EGR cooler leak. The leak can be both outside (which is much more often) and inside the cooler, while there are no smudges, but the level of antifreeze drops. When leaking inside, antifreeze enters the turbocharger, which negatively affects its durability.
--- Wear of the blades of the second turbine. It appears extremely rarely. The reasons for the occurrence are still not clear, most likely a factory defect. Repair is not possible, only the replacement of the turbine.
--- Malfunction of fuel injectors (nozzles) appears when using low-quality fuel. Cleaning / restoration of injectors is impossible, if they fail, only replacement with new ones.

AKP malfunction. In 90% of cases, it is necessary to repair the automatic transmission itself and the torque converter. In 10% of cases, both automatic transmission and torque converter and valve body (valve block).
--- IMPORTANT! The need to change the oil is every 48,000 km (against 240,000 km as prescribed before).

Transfer case (RK):

Stretching the chain (mainly with very active driving).
--- Oil leakage from the sump and / or electrical connector of the automatic transmission.

Suspension and air suspension:

Suspension compressor
--- Body height sensors, sensor wiring.
--- Pneumatic bridging valves (front/rear).
Symptoms - the front or rear of the car drops.
--- Suspension shock absorbers (from 100,000 km). It makes sense to change the rack assembly with PN pillows, since the difference in price is not great.
--- Lower front suspension arms
--- Steering tips, rods
--- Rear suspension sliding joints
--- Rear axle toe rods
--- Rear silent blocks of the upper arms of the rear suspension.

Transmission, brakes:

Front wheel bearings (hub assembly).
Symptoms - hum when moving.
--- Front/rear axle reducer.
Symptoms - hum when moving.
--- Differential lock motor.
Symptoms - failure of several systems at once.
--- Handbrake unit. Recommended regular maintenance this unit - 1 time in 2 replacement of the rear brake pads.
--- The right bracket of the handbrake cable is frayed. In this case, the handbrake cable falls on rim and may be frayed.
--- Broken outboard bearing rear cardan shaft(rarely).

Heater in salon:

Malfunction of the heater radiator (only relevant for 4.4l and 4.2l petrol engines).
Symptoms - warm air on the passenger side, cold air on the driver's side.

Additional heater (Webasto):

Software failure electronic block management.
--- Burnout or cracked burner.
Symptoms - increased smoke during operation or inoperability of the heater.
