Korando equipment. New generation SsangYong Korando crossover unveiled

Ten-year-old financial problems forced the Korean automobile company SsangYong to suspend a number of promising projects, so the restyling of the SsangYong Korando 2019 crossover was already implemented with a significant delay.

Naturally, the new model in relation to the 2010 concept received a number of differences. The asset of the novelty of the model range is a more modern and bright body design, an extended list of standard options, optimal driving characteristics for its price category.

In the third generation, the SUV C1 class compact crossover has slightly increased in size and acquired typical body design details for off-road vehicles.

The available photos of the front side of the edited body SsangYong Korando 2019 shows a moderate slope of the windshield, combined with side reliefs of a relatively small hood.

  • In line with the trapezoidal blocks of the front halogen or xenon optics, there is a narrow ventilation air intake supplemented with a logo. In the central part of the front end, attention is drawn to the horizontal chrome grille and a pair of large-format side diffusers.
  • Most of the aggressive style details include the construction of a metal-plastic body kit, complemented by another air intake and compact fog lamps located in deep C-shaped cutouts.

The updated crossover looks spectacular in a lateral projection. In the field of view, the roof line slightly inclined towards the rear window with longitudinal rails, the glazing of the side windows enclosed in a glossy plastic frame, several elements of ribbed relief and the lower perimeter of the body supplemented with a plastic skirt.

The design of rims and oval mirrors looks stylish and original. In the design of the aft hull, recognizable details of the body design of branded models of past years are visible. This is, first of all:

  • rear pillars and a narrowed format of the rear window shaded with a spoiler visor;
  • wedges of lanterns connected by a massive chrome-plated strip;
  • a discreet logo tailgate;
  • supplemented with fog lamps and a metal trim, a powerful plastic body kit.





Interior

The interior decoration of a five-seater saloon that is very comfortable for a budget car can be envied by the owners of more expensive and prestigious analogues. The decorative and finishing assortment includes artificial and natural leather, reliable plastic imitation of wooden and metal interior decor.




  • In the top configuration of Sang Yong Korando 2019, a virtual dashboard with modern graphics, a widescreen multimedia monitor and several options for ambient interior lighting are promised.
  • The upper floor of the console is occupied by a medium-format tablet of a regular multimedia complex equipped with command functionality.
  • The middle tier is densely filled with analog buttons for turning on and configuring on-board options, including modern navigation and climate control systems. The console is completed with a playground with ports for connecting functional and gaming digital peripherals.




The central tunnel looks unexpectedly rich and elegant. It comes standard with powertrain control levers and chassis adjustment buttons, temperature-controlled cup holders and under-armrest mini-fridge storage.

The service of very comfortable front seats offers elements of lateral support, a heating system, several ranges of electrified position adjustment. Passengers of the rear three-seater sofa, equipped with an armrest, heated seats and an adjustable backrest, are not deprived of comfort.

The technical equipment of the salon includes:

  • new generation climate and cruise control equipment;
  • a set of front and side airbags;
  • stop-start system;
  • several electronic assistants for safe driving in heavy traffic and on expressways.

The new body with dimensions of 4450 x 1870 x 1675 mm made it possible to increase the trunk volume to 551 liters. A simple transformation of the sofa back increases this parameter three times, which solves the problem of transporting oversized and long loads.

Specifications

In the new generation, the compact crossover retained the layout of the front-wheel drive chassis with a fully independent combined suspension, a base extended to 2675 mm and an off-road clearance of 190 mm.

The choice of powertrain is relatively small.

  • In the first version, this is a 1.5 GDI-Turbo turbocharged petrol engine with an output of 163 hp. and peak thrust of 280 Nm.
  • The lower power of the 136-horsepower diesel counterpart is offset by increased torque up to 324 Nm.

Traction and speed parameters of both power units are effectively implemented by a six-speed manual gearbox or Aisin six-speed transmission with power transmission to the front axle. A multidisciplinary test drive confirmed the coherence and interaction of all component systems and units.

Options and prices

The new Sang Yong Korando 2019 model year will enter the domestic market in the middle of the 2019 spring season. The price of the base model with standard equipment in ruble terms is 1.3 million.

The cost of the top version with an automated transmission and additional options will increase by 350 thousand rubles, respectively.

Start of sales in Russia

Last year, only 123 Korando SUVs of the 2019 model were sold on the domestic market, so the release date in Russia is still a big question.

The car was purchased in Moscow in a car dealership with "0" and was serviced exclusively in a service center. But, since the SsangYong Korando has a “Mersovsky” engine, which can really go 500,000 km or more without problems without any problems, it didn’t have to change anything except for changing the oil and filter, it’s still true candles, but also according to the regulations. Checked the level regularly. The only replacement is the power steering, it buzzed and refused to perform its functions (there was apparently a Korean one, seemingly flimsy), but the German one looked beautifully massive and more reliable. In terms of comfort, the SsangYong Korando is modest, as it should be in a car of this class, but the wood-like inserts are pleasing to the eye, power windows and power mirrors make the trip much more pleasant. And xenon headlights do their job in the dark. SsangYong Korando is convenient when driving around Moscow: a short base is a convenience when parking, high ground clearance helps when avoiding obstacles with a high curb and when parking in the yard. When there are no places, it is possible in a snowdrift, and when leaving, all-wheel drive will just help out. And if we talk about the appearance of the SsangYong Korando, then the body will not become obsolete even after 10 years, and by the way, it will not rust. And most importantly, I have not heard that these cars were stolen, at least, like many other models.

Advantages : price quality.

Machine with a capital letter. I am very pleased with my SsangYong Korando, it is stable on the road, enters turns at any speed, holds the road very well. I have a black color, I put my native trunk on the roof, it looked just fine. Made toning, put music, put new wheels with tires. Takeaway wheels are 3 beams, and tires are 265 \ 110 - the takeaway turned out to be 5 cm. Of course, it looks good, but the car is constantly dirty. Salon simple configuration (velor). I don’t want to do anything in the SsangYong Korando cabin, everything suits me, I just put the sunroof, and that’s it. I have a 2.9 diesel engine, there’s nothing to even say, the Mercedes is hardy, of course, everything is fine, only noisy. The suspension is very soft, you go through the pits at speed, only slightly swaying. You just need to fill in a good diesel fuel, I have a bad atmospheric diesel, it will be bad to accelerate, otherwise the whole car is just a Korean masterpiece. The machine is hardy only it must be well looked after.

The car has been in use for 3 years. After the purchase, I noticed a sluggish and rolling undercarriage, did not worry about finding what exactly was broken, changed almost the entire undercarriage at once, tried to install reinforced spare parts so that the car was more “wooden” and not as rolled as it seemed to me initially. I was very pleased with the prices for spare parts - the entire chassis cost me about 40-50 thousand rubles, I partially installed it myself, partially in the service. Appearance of course for an amateur, but you can safely not be afraid to get lost in the crowd, you don’t even need to do any tuning to feel like an exclusive car. Outwardly, the SsangYong Korando is not very beautiful, but, on the other hand, because of its appearance, or rather the construction of the body, front and rear overhangs, it is a very passable and practical car. Outwardly, the car looks small, but compared it with a minibus - they are almost the same in length. Interior decoration: inside everything is very simple, practical and comfortable, the seating position is high, the gear knob is conveniently at hand, the seats have armrests. Outwardly, the SsangYong Korando looks small, but the interior is very spacious for both the driver and front and rear passengers (I am 180 cm tall). The car in terms of the technical part is very, very unpretentious. The engine is (in version 2.3) an old Mercedes, it was previously installed on trucks, it is very reliable if you look after it in time and provide elementary signs of attention. Fuel consumption when driving on the highway - 9 without air conditioning, 10 - with air conditioning, in the city 12. If you turn on all-wheel drive, the consumption increases depending on the load.

Advantages : reliability. Unpretentiousness in operation. Economic diesel.

Flaws : it is inconvenient to change candles.

Despite or in spite of financial problems, the well-known Korean automaker SsangYong has prepared for the new season an updated model of its legendary Korando SUV - SsangYong Korando C. According to modern marketing ideas about the needs of buyers for such a purchase, the car has undergone significant external and internal changes.

With the advent of Korando (C200), SsangYong Corporation pins certain hopes on the return of positions lost in recent years in the world market. Efforts to change are aimed primarily at creating a conceptual appearance and shifting the emphasis in practicality from off-road conquest to urban comfort. The appearance of the new Sang Yong Korando was preceded by a prototype codenamed C200, whose design was worked on not by anyone, but by one of the trendsetters in automotive fashion - ItalDesign studio specialists. It is difficult to single out how exactly the shuo-car Sang Yong C200 differed from the previous Korando model, because it differed in almost everything.

As you know, Korando from the very first appearance and in all subsequent modifications was a frame SUV and inherited the technology and appearance of Jeep cars (now it is produced in Russia under the name). The new Ssang Yong C200 was a glamorous monocoque variation on the theme of the current SUV craze and the desire to please buyers with European tastes. The SsangYong Korando C, which went into mass production, differs externally from the conceptual development of the C200 in other front and rear (with integrated exhaust pipes) bumpers, headlight design, modified taillights and a different radiator grille.

The interior design of the SsangYong Korando C 2011 has also undergone significant changes relative to the “jeep version”. The design and ergonomic solution of the exterior are aimed at maximum ease of use, visual and tactile comfort for passengers and the driver, and are made in a restrained aristocratic style. For decoration, only the highest quality expensive materials are selected (genuine leather, soft plastic, glossy elements of the front panel).

Information on the detailed specification of the new SsangYong Korando is not yet available, including on the official website of the manufacturer in his homeland in South Korea. However, it is known that the SsangYong Korando C 2011 is equipped with three powertrain options. Korando C is powered by a 2-liter 178-horsepower (according to other sources, its power is 181 hp) turbocharged diesel engine with a maximum torque of 360 Nm, operating in full compliance with Euro-5 environmental standards. A 1.8-litre petrol engine will be added to the lineup in the future. Also for the SsangYong Korando C, the appearance of a hybrid or fully electric version was announced (according to various sources). In the latter case, it is planned to equip it with lithium batteries, which are able to ensure the movement of the car over a distance of 180 kilometers. The manufacturer's data speaks of the possibility of such an electric car to reach a maximum speed of up to 150 km / h. The all-new SsangYong Korando C platform is designed for full or front-wheel drive only. There are modifications with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.

Note that for the SsangYong Korando C200 concept, a technical equipment was developed with a 2-liter diesel engine with 175 hp. and a torque of 370 Nm, it had all-wheel drive and was aggregated with a 6-speed gearbox.

Given the transformation that Korando has gone through, he will no longer be able to please his fans, who consider themselves to be true lovers of off-road conquering. But the new SsangYong Korando C has every chance of becoming a "favorite" among the main buyers of crossovers in the middle price category - the numerous middle class, whether in Australia, the Americas, Europe or Russia. Of course, the main role in achieving this goal will be played by the price of SsangYong Korando C in comparison with competitors, which has not yet been announced. There is also information about the imminent appearance of the SsangYong Korando C on the domestic market, but so far nothing is known about its cost for the Russians and even about its possible new name.

At the Geneva Motor Show in 2019, the world premiere of the 4th generation SsangYong Korando crossover (in Russia, the model is known as Actyon) took place in the new C300 body. The start of sales of the model in the domestic market has already taken place, and in Europe the cars will appear in the summer.

The new Sanyeng Korando 2019-2020 (photo and price) is made in the style of a larger one. The car has the same design of the front end with catchy folds along the edges of the hood, as well as similar headlights and taillights. Plus, in the appearance of the model, some borrowings from the conceptual e-SIV can be traced.

In turn, the interior of the new SsangYong Korando 2019 model year is made in the style of "Blaze Cockpit", which is characterized by the presence of large displays. A 10.25-inch touchscreen multimedia system is built into the center of the front panel.

The dashboard in the car is also digital - a 9.0″ screen is used to display information. As for analog buttons, their number in the new generation model is reduced to a minimum. Plus, the driver and passengers are designed to please the contour lighting.

However, all this is relevant for only the top-end Korando configuration, while in the base the multimedia monitor is noticeably more modest, simple music is installed, and the tidy is analog with a small monochrome display of the on-board computer.

The new Sang Yong Aktion 2020 body is still based on a platform with a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear. The overall length of the crossover is 4,452 mm (+ 42), the wheelbase is 2,675 (+ 25), the width is 1,870 (+ 40), the height is 1,620 (- 20), the trunk volume (under the shelf) has increased from 486 up to 551 liters, and with the backs of the second row folded down, the compartment reaches 1,248 liters.

In the domestic market, only a 1.6-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 136 hp is announced for the new Korando. and 324 Nm, while for Europe, a completely new 1.5-liter GDI-Turbo gasoline engine with direct injection and turbocharging is additionally offered, producing 163 “horses” and 280 Nm of torque.

Transmission options include a six-speed manual or a similar Aisin automatic. By default, the drive on the crossover is front-wheel drive, while an all-wheel drive transmission can be ordered for a fee, but only for the two-pedal version. In the future, an electric modification is expected.

The list of options for the SsangYong Korando / Aktion includes dual-zone climate control, front seat ventilation, LED headlights and the Deep Control electronic assistant complex. The latter includes adaptive cruise, blind spot monitoring, emergency braking, and lane keeping functions.

The price of the new SsangYong Korando 2020 in the South Korean market varies from $19,700 to $25,100 (Shiny, Delight and Fantastic trim levels are offered for cars). The cost of the SUV in the Old World is not specified, but in Russia you should not expect a novelty, since the company has suspended the supply of cars to our market.

The new SsangYong Korando 2019-2020 model year was partially declassified in mid-February in South Korea. Now the SUV made its full debut in Geneva, where the public was shown a version for the European market. Outwardly, it differs, in fact, only in other nameplates, because at home a historical version of the emblem from the 90s of the last century is used. Also in Europe, the new 2020 Sang Yong Korando will be available in richer trim levels and with a 1.5-liter GDI-Turbo engine not announced in Korea.

Briefly about the model

The current generation Korando is already the fourth generation of the very popular C-segment crossover. The previous version was sold in Russia under the name, but, unfortunately, Russian motorists will not see the new product on our roads, since the SsangYong concern has practically curtailed its activities in Russia and does not plan to return.

In Korea, the new Korando was shown on February 16, and at the same time the acceptance of applications was opened. But in Europe, sales should begin in the summer, but the exact dates have not yet been announced by the manufacturer. In the home market, the initial equipment of the “fourth” SsangYong Korando is offered at a price of just over 22 million won, which, translated into Russian currency, is about 1.3 million rubles.

body design

The appearance of the new Sanyeng Korando was announced three years ago in the form of the SIV-2 concept car, which was created under the motto “Strong. Special. Premium". When drawing the exterior of a production car, the developers tried to keep as much as possible the similarity with the show car and at the same time make the body of the model more squat and wide. As a result, the SUV has grown a little compared to its predecessor, adding 42 mm in length (4452 mm) and 40 mm in width (1870 mm). The wheelbase has been extended by 25 mm to 2675 mm. The numbers have decreased only in terms of height - it has decreased by 55 mm and now stands at 1620 mm.

Interior and equipment

Salon SsangYong Korando 2019-2020 five-seater with a classic layout, providing comfortable seats with advanced lateral support in the front row and an almost flat sofa in the back. The basic models have a fabric finish with multiple soft plastic inserts. In the top versions, leather and more expensive inclusions of metal or wood are expected. Much attention is paid to the ergonomic component - the designers tried to remove all unnecessary and make the concept as simple as possible, which, in general, they completely succeeded.

The interior of the new Korando

The organization of the luggage compartment was also at a high level. In the presence of all five passengers and loading up to the cloth shelf, 551 liters of luggage (+65 liters) are placed in the cargo compartment. If you fold down the second row seatbacks, the trunk capacity increases to 1248 liters. In order to increase the convenience of using the cargo space, a socket and a set of mounting loops are installed here.

At the moment, three trim levels have been announced for the fourth generation SsangYong Korando: "Shiny", "Delight" and "Fantastic". Already in the standard version, Korando receives not only front and side airbags, but also a knee airbag for the driver. In addition, the list of standard equipment includes full power accessories, a heated windshield, an adjustable steering column, climate control, a Start / Stop system, ABS, a stabilization system, a trip computer, a multimedia system with a 7-inch display and support for Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, fabric seat upholstery.

Salon architecture

In top trim levels, the SUV is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a multimedia system with a 9.0-inch screen, front seat ventilation, active cruise control, an emergency braking system in emergency situations, a lane control system, all-round cameras, monitoring of "dead" zones , LED interior lighting, leather seat upholstery, etc. In addition to everything, the manufacturer promises a seven-year warranty for absolutely all versions of Korando.

In the Korean market, Sang Yong Korando is offered with only one diesel engine, which is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit. Its maximum power is 136 hp, and peak torque is limited to 324 Nm (reached at 1500 rpm). In Europe, buyers will have an alternative in the form of a new supercharged 1.5 GDI-Turbo petrol engine. Such a motor is capable of delivering 163 hp. power and about 280 Nm of torque.

Both units can work in conjunction with both a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-band "automatic" from the Japanese company Aisin. In the second case, an all-wheel drive system becomes available to the SUV, thanks to which a diesel Korando is able to pull a trailer weighing up to 2 tons, and a gasoline one up to 1.5 tons. The Koreans kept silent about the dynamic characteristics and fuel consumption, promising to reveal all the details closer to the start of sales. At the same time, it was noted that in the future the crossover will definitely acquire a hybrid power plant and an all-electric modification.

Who are the competitors?

It is extremely difficult to assess the chances of the updated SsangYong Korando for success in Europe. The model seems to please with rich trim levels and attractive prices, but there are still few specifics. Of course, there is no talk of fighting the leaders of the class -, and -. But with and under certain scenarios, Korando 4 will be able to compete, but again, much will depend on the company's pricing policy.
