It began in 1994, then GAZ 33023 "Farmer" began to be produced a year later. The main difference between the model is the presence of a more voluminous cabin with two rows of seats, a short side body. In the standard version of the Gazelle, the cabin was designed for three people (driver + 2 passengers), in the Gazelle Farmer it already accommodated a total of 6 people.

Just like all other versions of the Gazelles, the GAZ 33023 was produced in several modifications. The first generation went from 1995 to 2003, the second - from 2003 to 2010. Since 2010, the plant began to produce the Gazelle Farmer Business model, which is still being produced. In 2013, GAZ launched a fourth generation commercial vehicle - a modification of the "Farmer" with a three-dimensional cabin as well.

The Gazelle Farmer, in contrast, has a reduced body volume, and, accordingly, the carrying capacity is also less - it is equal to 1 ton. A machine in this version is often used to transport a team with equipment to various facilities.

Later, a modification was developed on an extended chassis (GAZ 330232), as well as an all-wheel drive version of GAZ 330273.

The first GAZ 33023 cars were equipped with two types of engines -. The gearbox is mechanical 5-speed - its design is very reminiscent of the "Volgovskaya" five-speed, only the gear ratios have been changed. In the first two years of production, the Tchaikovsky rear axle was installed on it, but with the start of production of the Gazelle Farmer model, all modifications already used their own bridge design.

The most important external difference between the updated Gazelle Farmer since 2003 is completely different headlights, hood, grille and front bumper. The headlights acquired a teardrop shape, and the turning lights were hidden in the headlights - they were no longer separate elements. In the cabin, the instrument panel and some parts of the heating system have changed.

Big changes in the Gazelle Farmer modification took place in 2010. Although outwardly the car did not differ much from the previous version, more than 20 nodes in the car were improved. From the exterior - another front bumper is installed, it is integrated into one element with a radiator grill. They also paint cars now in other, more attractive colors.

The body painting process itself has become more technologically advanced. This time, the car factory provided for an anti-corrosion coating, and the body is no longer so susceptible to the influence of an aggressive external environment.

There are much more improvements in the cabin - the instrument panel has been changed again, the steering wheel has acquired a more modern look. The heater control unit has changed, the Gazelle Farmer Business has become equipped with air conditioning, and the seats are equipped with more modern and reliable seat belts.


Soundproofing is installed in the cabin - it has become quieter and more comfortable in the cabin.

In the new modification, the Gorky Automobile Plant this time used a lot of imported components. In particular, the steering was taken from the German manufacturer ZF, the vacuum booster from Bosch, the clutch slave and master cylinder from Sachs. For the first time in the history of the Gazelle, an anti-lock braking system (ABS) appeared on cars.

In 2013, a new generation of Gazelles was launched, it is considered the fourth. Unlike the three previous modifications, the Gazelle Next Farmer can no longer be called restyling - this is really a new brand of car, and it does not look like all previous models. The design of the car has become more angular, strict and businesslike - the car now resembles a modern foreign car, something like a Fiat Ducato or a Mercedes Sprinter. The cabin of the new Gazelle Farmer is made of galvanized steel, which means it is much less susceptible to corrosion.

An on-board computer is installed in the passenger compartment of the Next car, the cabin is designed for 7 passengers.

A common problem is the failure of the clutch, and not only the basket and “fly”, but also the working and master cylinder, the vacuum brake booster. Recently, imported components have been used on Gazelles, and breakdowns are no longer so frequent. But the clutch itself carries a very large load on a Gazelle class car, so the clutch on this car will fail anyway. On average, the basket, clutch disc and release bearing serve from 50 to 80 thousand km.

The cabin was always problematic on the Gazelles - the quality of the metal is not at the highest level, and it is subject to corrosion. True, on the Gazelle NEXT Farmer the metal is already galvanized, it is likely that the cabin will last longer.

While it's too early to talk about something, Next models began to be produced relatively recently. The next problem node is the springs. But not only because of the quality of workmanship, they fail, the overload of the car often affects. The machine is mainly used for commercial purposes, and it is loaded mainly to the limit.

The overload springs do not withstand - the sheets straighten and burst, it is necessary to repair or replace parts.

Another fairly common malfunction is the rapid wear of the rear axle parts. Noise in the main pair of the bridge is a typical phenomenon for the Gazelle.
