Evo 9 technical specifications. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX sedan

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 (Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9) is a sports all-wheel drive five-seater C-class sedan. Production model - . Its production began in 2005. On the basis of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX, the WRC rally car is produced, which is one of the main ones in the fight for the world crown in the N racing group. Thus, the serial Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 can rightfully be considered a unique road car that gives the driver the opportunity to feel like a participant in a rally World Championship. With the mitsubishi evolution 9 you can go anywhere in the world at random and rest assured that this car will not let you down.

Exterior and aerodynamics

Upon first inspection of the Mitsubishi Evolution 9, one immediately notices its somewhat aggressive appearance, formed by the clear design of the front part, primarily the design of the radiator grille and headlights, decorated with “tinted” glass.

A vortex flow generator is located at the rear of the car's roof, a wing is installed on the trunk, and the configuration of the rear bumper is more reminiscent of a diffuser. Thanks to these aerodynamic tricks, it was possible to neutralize the lift that arises under the rear and underbody of the car. Now the rear part of the Mitsubishi Evolution 9 does not tear off, but, on the contrary, presses it to the road.

Interior

The interior of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 is distinguished by new Recaro sports seats, which are decorated with Alcantara® leather inserts, a black MOMO steering wheel, aluminum pedals, climate control with three small, neat, clearly clickable handles, a large audio system, and a carbon-look center console overlay. "and interior trim that matches it in style and color.

Handling Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9

Weighing more than 1300 kg, the Mitsubishi Evo 9 behaves on the move in such a way that this heaviness is not felt at all. The car instantly responds to steering wheel turns. You just have to turn it, and the front of the car seems to take off. The engine responds immediately to the accelerator pedal, although of course the presence of a turbocharger also manifests itself already at relatively low speeds. The use of aluminum, titanium and magnesium in the engine, which significantly reduces its weight, also affects its efficiency and has a positive effect both when driving in the city and when racing on country roads.

The presence of a powerful turbocharger is immediately noticeable. However, the uniform increase in torque is no less clearly noticeable. As a result, the car picks up speed very smoothly, without abrupt transitions. To a large extent, the mitsubishi lancer evolution 9 owes such lightness to the work of the suspension, which takes on all the excess thrust developed by the engine if excess gas is supplied to it. If you make the suspension too stiff, the car will start to roll very much when turning. The use of such a suspension allows you to clearly feel the approaching moment of loss of traction between the wheels and the road and the transition to skidding. If you don’t react in time, the car will go into disarray. The Mitsubishi Evo 9's suspension has a very large “capacity” of dynamic travel. That is, even if the driver “overdoes” the gas, the excessive sharpness of the engine will be instantly reduced, as if it will get stuck in the “deep niche” of the suspension. On a road with numerous turns, this feature immediately makes itself felt. In a positive sense, the car does not turn into a turn, but easily “flips”, which allows the driver to control the car with the accelerator pedal constantly pressed. By the way, this feature increases the actual speed of movement.

Of course, it cannot be said that all the body parts of the Mitsubishi Evolution 9 are so balanced that turning should always go smoothly. But the car is equipped with three differentials (one main and one each on the axles), which are almost perfectly matched to each other. This allows you to enter the turn very confidently.

Specifications

The main innovation of the mitsubishi lancer evo ix is a six-speed gearbox and the return of a full 280 horsepower.

The car is equipped with a two-liter four-cylinder, sixteen-valve Mitsubishi 4G63T MIVEC engine with an intercooler of charge air and a turbocharger, which produces “hurricane” torque at any point in the speed characteristics. In order to improve dynamics at low and medium speeds, the designers equipped the engine with an electronic control system for all valve timing, MIVEC valve lift, and optimized the operation of the turbocharger. The result is obvious - on the road, the car takes off from a standstill at the start and accelerates powerfully while overtaking (acceleration to 100 km/h takes just 5.7 seconds).

The new six-speed gearbox practically did not change the parameters of the first three, and slightly “shortened” the fourth and fifth. The latter has become “more active” during high-speed overtaking. And to help it was added a sixth one - a “longer” one, which allows at a speed of 150 km/h to significantly reduce engine speed and save up to 0.1 liters of AI-98 for every 100 kilometers.

The new gearbox shifts just as well as the old one. Thanks to the use of Teflon-coated cables and a new damper, the lever began to move much easier, without the feeling of jerking the rifle bolt, jerks after switching and transmission “howls” disappeared.

The steering wheel has become easier to use, with reduced force and improved isolation from road shocks.

Video Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9

Mitsubishi Lancer 9 Evolution is a sports car, a successful version of the Lancer, available in sedan and station wagon bodies on the CT 9A and CT 9W platforms. The exterior design differs from the standard model, and the power plant is renowned for its trouble-free operation even in difficult conditions. The choice of just such a car is determined by the desire to have a powerful, fast and reliable car. The price of a used Evolution 9 today varies widely. It can cost 500 thousand rubles or 1 million 700 thousand rubles for the 2008 version. It all depends on the condition of the car, modification, configuration.

The ninth generation Evo sedan was released in 2005. The car was simultaneously presented in Japan, Europe and the USA. The power plant was assembled using advanced MIVEC technology and received a modified turbine. As a result of innovative amendments, engine power increased to 291 horses.

Complete set

The 9th generation Evo was sold from the very beginning in 4 main trim levels, but later their list was supplemented or decreased depending on the market:

  • running standard or basic version called Grand Sports Rally, briefly - GSR;
  • Just Rally Sports or RS;
  • Special Edition or SE;
  • Mitsubishi Rising or MR.

Each version had its own characteristics. All of them showed different test results for acceleration, maximum speed, and handling. The RS version did not have additional functions, while the SE and MR were equipped not only with an advanced acoustic system, but also with other modern devices at that time. For example, a rear spoiler that makes the car more like a racing car.

Despite a lot of innovations and additions, the 9th generation turned out to be lighter than its predecessor by as much as 60 kg. The lightest package was the RS, designed for sports rallies. But it accelerated no faster than the top SE and MR , and even the basic GSR.

Experts attributed this to the lack of a rear spoiler on the RS. Therefore, this modification was often subjected to tuning, installing the wing on its own. This not only increased speed performance, but also improved the aesthetic component.

The RS equipment was also not impressive in terms of interior decoration. There is a minimum of comfort here, everything is decorated at a Spartan level. On the one hand, this scared off buyers, but on the other hand, it made it possible to keep the price low and ensure a high level of car sales to racing teams.

The MR version is more similar than the others to the previous Evo 8. The same Bilstein shock absorbers, 6-speed gearbox, air intake on the aluminum roof, original fog lights, HID xenon, alloy wheels are used. As well as Recaro sports seats, Brembo brakes and a Momo steering wheel.

In order to somehow reduce the rise in production prices, “charged” in every sense of the MR configuration, the manufacturer makes HID xenon available only as an option, although on the Evo 8 cars were equipped with such headlights as standard, albeit in 3 versions.

Mitsu Motors initially determined that 3 versions would be available for the European and Asian markets. All of them were equipped with the same internal combustion engine with 291 hp, but with different KM indicators. However, the Evo 9 arrived in Europe with an engine developing 10 hp. less power.

  1. The RS (Rally Sport) version came with a 5-speed gearbox, had an aluminum roof, a set of additional options and a simple interior. There is a control option - “Left-hand drive”.
  2. The GT version, which used a 5-speed gearbox, and took all the good points of the standard and rally versions.
  3. The GSR version is equipped with a 6-speed gearbox for the European and Asian markets. It features Bilstein shock absorbers, an aluminum roof, a smart and advanced SAYC system, and much more.

As for the British Isles, the 9th generation Evo was initially supplied here in 3 versions: the FQ model with a 300-horsepower internal combustion engine, the FQ with 320 horses and the FQ with 340 hp.

All models were equipped with a six-speed gearbox and single-tube Bilstein shock absorbers. They could be refueled with super-unleaded gasoline.

Subsequently, two more models arrive in England:

  • FQ with 360-horsepower internal combustion engine;
  • MR FQ with a 360-horsepower turbocharged internal combustion engine, titanium aluminum fins, powerful glass protection, a beautiful interior, etc.

There were 4 models equipped with a 286-horsepower unit on the American market:

  • Standard version, working with a 5-speed gearbox (basic American version);
  • Rally version of RS with a redesigned 5-speed gearbox, aluminum roof, various sensors (the interior, as always, is designed at a minimalist level);
  • Special Edition, equipped with a very light, almost entirely aluminum body, HID xenon, red seats and much more;
  • MR with 6-speed transmission, 7-spoke forged aluminum wheels, vortex generators, etc.

Although the engine power of all American models is identical, they could differ in terms of performance.

Another famous market where the car sold well was the Philippines. Here, the Mitsubishi Lancer 9 Evolution was sold until 2008. The bodies were offered in 2 versions. Base versions were slightly better equipped than the Evo 9 for other markets. Expensive modifications were equipped at the same level.

Russian market

In our country, the Evo 9 was offered with the same 280-horsepower 2.0-liter engine. The car easily accelerated from zero to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, and reached a top speed of up to 250 km/h.

The Russian version featured sports leather seats with Alcantara inserts, a Momo steering wheel, pedals with aluminum pads, etc. The main thing is that, compared to its predecessors, the Evo has become much more comfortable.

Station wagon

Evo 9 The car first rolled off the assembly line in 2005. The station wagon was built on the same platform as the sedan, but the body was made more rigid and durable. We can say that the manufacturer, as it were, strengthened the body, increasing the quality of life by modernizing the pillars and generally strengthening the structure.

At the same time, the station wagon body turned out to be light, since it has many aluminum parts.

The advantages of the body gave the station wagon enviable driving performance and reliable handling.

The interior design, as well as the exterior, is made exactly like a copy of the sedan. In the back, you can transform the seats and get a huge luggage space. However, for unknown reasons, the cargo compartment of the Evo Wagon was smaller than that of the Lancer Cedia Wagon.

Among the advantages of a station wagon compared to a sedan, one can highlight the level of shvi. It was clearly carried out at the best level, which is explained by the use of high-quality acoustic materials.

The manufacturer has also provided a version of Evolution 9 with an electric motor. The power plant in the car was connected to each of the 4 wheels. The motor itself is built according to a toroidal design, implying a non-stator arrangement of the rotor. Thanks to this scheme, the car electric motor is significantly lighter.

Main course of modernization

As you know, all Lancer Evo models were released for the purpose of a certain modernization. Thus, the 9th generation Evo has a major improvement course associated with the appearance of a 2-liter 4G63 power plant, assembled using the unique advanced MIVEC technology. This engine features a more efficient turbine and an all-around better intercooler.

One of the most charismatic cars on the planet, the Evo 8, offers the widest possibilities in terms of exterior design. Already too aggressive, you can turn it into a full-fledged road conqueror.

The new engine increased the car's power to 291 hp. It was said above that this Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 power plant could develop even more power. The British, in particular, could choose a version with a 340-horsepower engine. True, on the European market there was a modification with a 280-horsepower unit of the same type.

Price

Prices on the secondary market today are different. Most models are even tuned by the owners. As a rule, the approximate cost of cars starts from 500-600 thousand rubles. You can find low-mileage models starting from 1.3 million rubles, and even higher if they are equipped with a forced internal combustion engine, a modernized chassis and an alternative body kit.

Let us remind you that the 9th generation Evo was replaced on the assembly line by Lancer Evolution 10. Read an interesting article about how it is carried out, learn a lot of interesting things. Mitsubishi Lancer 10 is a very beautiful and powerful car that allows for extensive modernization.

Surely each of us has seen the ninth Lancer. Now it can be found in almost every yard. However, few people have seen the charged version of this civilian sedan in person. So, meet the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9. The car's technical characteristics, design and cost are further in our article.

Design

This car first appeared in 2005. It became the successor to the previous generation of Lancer Evolution cars. Externally, the eighth and ninth Lancers are very similar. However, this does not apply to the civilian version of the Nine. She looks different.

Yes, this is the very familiar look of the budget C-class sedan. However, the ninth generation version of “Evolution” is radically different from the usual one. Lancer Evo 9 has a stylish and dynamic look. Tuning was done not only inside, but also outside. First of all, this concerns optics. On a regular “nine” it is more modest, triangular and extended towards the top of the wing. Here it's the other way around. Lancer Evo 9 is a kind of formidable samurai, ready to take off at any second. The car is distinguished by a relief hood, numerous body kits and an aerodynamic bumper. The latter has a special cutout, but not for foglights, but for cold air intake. Looking ahead, we note that this car is turbocharged and equipped with an intercooler, which is why high-quality cooling is so important to it. At the rear, the dynamic image is complemented by a high speller and diffusers. The exhaust is located at the right edge of the bumper. All plastic body kits contribute to better downforce, which is necessary at high speeds.

As for the dimensions, they are almost identical to the civilian Lancer (at least they fit into the C-class). Thus, the length of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 is 4.5 meters, width - 1.77 m, height - 1.45 m. The rear and front track widths are the same and equal to 1515 millimeters. The ground clearance is very small, as confirmed by the owners of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9. The tuning makes itself felt - 14 centimeters is only enough for perfectly smooth roads. It is better not to go outside the city in this car. Those who want to tune their Mitsubishi Lancer 9 for Evo should take this into account.

Salon

The inside of the car is not as surprising as the outside. There are still hard plastics and civilian panel lines. The steering wheel is three-spoke, with a very comfortable grip. The center console has all the necessary controls. On more “evil” versions, “boost” sensors are additionally installed. The seats, unlike the civilian versions, are made of high-quality Alcantara and have pronounced lateral support (one might say, full-fledged “buckets”).

The speedometer on the dashboard has a scale of 0-270, the tachometer is designed for 9 thousand revolutions - this is certainly not the case in the civilian Lancer. The sportiness of the interior is added by the factory pedals, stylized as aluminum. Driving the Lancer Evo 9 is quite comfortable - the steering wheel is adjustable in two directions, the seat seems to envelop you from all sides. There is a sufficient supply of seat adjustments on both the driver's and passenger's seats. At the rear there is a three-seater sofa with a center armrest. It has built-in cup holders. There is enough space in the back, despite the fact that the Lancer Evo 9 belongs to the C-segment.

Specifications

The main difference between the Evolution model is its powerful engine. Under the hood of the Lancer Evo 9 there is a two-liter turbocharged engine with an extended diffuser and a variable valve timing system. The unit is located transversely relative to the body. The motor is marked 4G63.

Japanese engineers tried to get the most out of this two-liter engine. And they managed to do it. Thanks to the turbine and other technical implementations, the maximum engine power is 280 horsepower. Torque at 3.5 thousand revolutions is 355 Nm. This engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. There are no automatic transmissions for the Mitsubishi Lancer 9-Evolution.

Dynamics

Thanks to its powerful engine, the car has excellent dynamic characteristics. So, acceleration to hundreds takes 6.1 seconds. The maximum speed is 250 kilometers per hour. Fuel consumption in city mode is 14.6 liters per hundred. On the highway, the Mitsubishi Lancer 9-Evolution consumes 8.2 liters of fuel. The manufacturer recommends using fuel with an octane rating of at least 98.

Motors for the USA and domestic market

It is worth noting that the power of the two-liter engine for the American market is 286 horsepower. Right-hand drive Japanese Evolution cars develop a power of 291 horsepower. Torque is 38 Nm higher than the European version and amounts to 393 Nm.

Chassis

The chassis design is identical to the previous generation of Evolution cars. There is an independent MacPherson suspension at the front and a multi-link at the rear. On ordinary Lancers a beam is installed. In technical terms, not only the engine was improved, but also the braking system. The front features four-piston calipers and Brembo ventilated disc brakes. At the rear there are two-piston calipers. The diameter of the brake discs is 320 millimeters (20 mm larger at the front). The car uses all-wheel drive. The rear axle is locked by a hydromechanical clutch. can be controlled from the interior. Electronics allows you to transfer torque to the wheel that has the best grip on the road surface. This eliminates slippage.

Price

The Mitsubishi Lancer 9-Evolution was produced serially until 2007, so you can only find a copy on the secondary market. The initial cost of the car was 600 thousand rubles. However, there are also more modernized versions (the modifications are made by the owners themselves) costing 1 million rubles.

The basic equipment of Evolution includes the following elements:

  • 2 front airbags;
  • climate control;
  • 4 power windows;
  • "Momo" sports seats and steering wheel;
  • ABS system;
  • hydraulic power steering.

Modifications

Despite such a short production period, the car was subjected to various changes, in particular by professional tuning studios. Thus, the British versions of the Evolution car were equipped with FQ engines with a power of 300, 320 and 340 horsepower.

At the same time, the working volume of the 4-cylinder engine remained the same - two liters. The increase in power had a positive effect on dynamic performance. The car accelerated to hundreds in 4.1 seconds. Peak speed is 253 kilometers per hour. This modification had the index MR. For other markets, Mitsubishi was equipped with the same 280-horsepower engine. The differences were only in the exterior - the car had different aerodynamic body kits and rims.

Conclusion

So, we found out what the charged version of the Mitsubishi Lancer is. The ninth Evolution is one of the fastest cars in the world. It is a worthy competitor to the Nissan GTR, BMW M-series and Mercedes AMG.

Mitsubishi Motors, the giants of the Japanese automotive industry, presented the anniversary version of their flagship – Lancer Evolution X.

The Lancer Evo series is a sports version of the Lancer car, whose production began back in 1973.

ATTENTION! Found a completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also did not believe until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

Lancer in English means spearman, but it is also an ambiguous French verb, whose meaning is similar to the English verb to rush. One possible translation of lancer is to give impetus.

Likewise, the Lancer Evo 10 is fraught with enormous momentum and seems ready to take off at full speed at any second. This is exactly the case when the external impression completely coincides with the content.

The main distinguishing feature of a sports car from a regular one is speed. In this case, speed and Lancer Evo 10 are synonymous. The average acceleration speed to 100 km/h is 5.4 seconds, and in some models only 3.6 seconds.

What is good about the tenth Lancer Evolution besides speed?

Yes to everyone! And our review will tell you about this. First of all, it is good for its revolutionary engine of a new design - 4B11T 2.0l (1997cc). The Inline 4 is made of aluminum and, what’s especially nice, is turbocharged. Is the engine powerful? Very. Its minimum capabilities are 206 kW and 276 liters, respectively. The increase in power depends on the selected model, which differs by country of distribution.

Mitsubishi makes cars all over the world, but each region is slightly different. Lancer Evo 10 is released for Japan, Philippines, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, America and Europe (there is a UK version of Lancer Evo X). Since imports from the USA and Europe are most convenient in our latitudes, we will dwell in more detail on the models for these countries.

Europe VS America

Of the American models, the most notable is the MR. Engine performance: 217 kW (291 hp) at 6500 rpm and 407 Nm at 4400 rpm. By the way, all American models have the same characteristics. This model has suede and leather chairs. An audio control system is mounted on the steering wheel, and the interface can be controlled by voice using Bluetooth Hands-Free. There are also high-intensity Xeon headlights, and the suspension features Einbach springs and Bilstein struts. The transmission is a six-speed TC-SST.

In European models, the main difference from American ones is the engine, which has the following characteristics: 295 hp. With. (217 kW) at 6500 rpm and 366 N·m (270 lb·ft) at 3500 rpm. Only two models were released for Europe: GSR and MR TC-SST. The first model has a five-speed gearbox. The second model is equipped with Mitsubishi's multi-user communication system.

What about the regular Lancer 10?

The most powerful gasoline engine of the tenth Lancer has the following performance: 2.0 l 4B11T P4 turbo 295-359 hp, while the diesel engine is 1.8 l 4N13 P4 turbo 150 hp. Is it worth listing the other differences? Perhaps, let's focus on one more thing - the civilian version of the Lancer X does not have all-wheel drive suspension, which is also known as the S-AWC system.

Everything's under control

The S-AWC system is an abbreviation that stands for Super-All Wheels Control - all-wheel super control, in Russian. This means that the smart system is able to control all four wheels at the same time and send different torques at any time during the ride. This is especially important when driving in bad weather or on bad roads. That is why this model is especially relevant for our latitudes.

From inside and out

You have already gotten some idea of the Lancer's interior - voice interface, audio controls on the steering wheel, and so on. The steering wheel, by the way, has a leather braid. Leather interior is standard for the Lancer Evolution 10. In addition to leather, there are also options with fabric upholstery of sports seats, for example, suede.

Let's imagine the dimensions of the Lancer Evolution X, and to make it sound even more impressive, let's give the numbers in millimeters. So, the length is more than four meters - 4505mm. Width and height are 1810 mm and 1480 mm, respectively. Ground clearance (the distance from the ground to the lowest point in the central part of the car) is only 140 millimeters.

The rear and front wheels have identical diameters – 1545 mm. The main body material is aluminum. The Lancer weighs like a very large newborn elephant calf or two not very large ones (for reference, elephants at birth weigh 80-140 kg) - from 1420 to 1635 kg, although it looks more aggressive than baby elephants. It also has wings with an air intake.

How much is this baby elephant worth?

If you buy a new car, you will have to pay sixty thousand dollars for it.

The price on the secondary market is much more pleasant - 20-40 thousand dollars, but you can even find options for only 15 thousand.

I have a regular Lancer, how can I make it evolve?

For some time, there was an opinion among craftsmen that a civilian Lancer could not be modified to an evolutionary one. Until a man with golden hands was found who decided to test this statement in practice. Checked and refuted. We contacted the master to find out all the details and here is the list he provided us with:

  • Evolution X 4B11T engine assembled with manifolds -100 thousand rubles.
  • Turbine TD05 Evolution X - 20 thousand rubles.
  • Motor wiring Evolution X - 5 thousand rubles.
  • ECU of the Evolution X engine (don’t forget to write the VIN there) - 10 thousand rubles.
  • Thermostat and its housing Evolution X - 2 thousand rubles.
  • Reinforced clutch ACT (disc and basket) Lancer X - 22 thousand rubles.
  • Intercooler Evolution X - 10 thousand rubles.
  • Front bumper amplifier Evolution X - 6 thousand.
  • Piping set Evolution X - 10 thousand rubles.
  • Oil cooler and its hoses Evolution X - 10 thousand rubles.
  • Fuel pump assembly Evolution X - 5 thousand rubles.
  • Copper tube for the return fuel line - 800 rubles.
  • Good motor oil (I chose MOTUL 300V 5W30) - 6 thousand rubles.
  • Power steering fluid - 400 rub.
  • Antifreeze - 1500 rub.
  • Oil filter - 250 rub.
  • Oil in manual transmission - 900 rubles.
  • Oil in the transfer case - 450 rubles.
  • Sailing hood (MBL84020) – 20 thousand rubles.

This is the required minimum, without which you should not even begin installing the Evolution X engine.

But in my case there were also costs for:

  • Evolution X cylinder head - 20 thousand rubles.
  • Exhaust valves FERREA - 7600 rub.
  • Restoration of the cylinder head - 7 thousand rubles.
  • Cylinder head gasket - 1700 rub.
  • A bunch of spacers, fasteners and brackets - priceless
  • Evolution X headlight washer reservoir - RUB 1,800.
  • Good quality sealant - 700 rubles.
  • Evolution X cylinder head bolts - RUB 3,000.
  • Spark plugs - 2500 rub.
  • Lower intercooler mount – 1800 RUR.
  • Pipes and brackets - 7500 rub.

All of the above can be ordered online and you can proceed directly to modification.

Swap from Evo 10 to Lancer 10 is also possible, but why?

Need more evolution or how to swap Lancer

Of course, in the Lancer Evo it is possible to replace individual components (engine, body kit, camshafts, etc.) with improved ones and get a super-machine. Which components to change and which to leave as is depends only on your desires, needs and imagination. The most important thing is to find a workshop with qualified and experienced mechanics, otherwise your car may not work after an inept upgrade.

Still don't believe in the theory of evolution? Run to the nearest salon for a test drive and you will want to spend the rest of your life in this car (a long one, since Mitsubishi also took care of safety).

The official start of sales of the ninth generation Lancer Evolution for Japanese consumers was given on March 3, 2005.

For the European market, the car was presented at the GI Motor Show on the same day.

ATTENTION! Found a completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also did not believe until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

In North America, Lancer Evolution IX was seen in April, at the NYI Auto Show.

Evolution IX range

Three standard versions of the Evolution IX were available with the following trim levels.

  • RS – 5-speed checkpoint; add. devices; ascetic salon; LCD monitor; turbine; left hand drive option.
  • GT - analogue of RS with 5 speed. Gearbox and minor changes in the interior.
  • GSR – 6-st. checkpoint; Bilstein shock absorbers; add. devices; SAYC.

All international models were equipped with a power unit with a capacity of 291 hp. s., but with different torque. In addition, separately for Europe, Mitsubishi equipped the Evo 9 with a 280 hp engine. s., and the GSR version was distinguished by its torque indicator, which was 400 Nm, in contrast to the RS and GT versions - with 407 Nm.

Although the Rally Sport version was lighter than the other Evolution 9s due to the lack of a rear spoiler, it performed slightly worse on the track than the MR and GSR models. In drag racing, all the cars were almost equally good.

The RS modification was specially released for rally teams who wanted a platform for creating a racing car. The interior of the Evo 9 RS was deprived of all amenities, which made it possible to “maintain” an adequate price tag for the car and ensure the required level of sales to racers.

All of the above Lancer Evo 9 models had aluminum roofs, Recaro bucket seats, Brembo brakes and Momo steering wheels. Changes made in 2005 included: shorter gear ratios for the 5-speed. Manual transmission, Enkei wheels (except MR version), redesigned air intake and new rear bumper (except US models).

United Kingdom

In the UK, Mitsubishi used a different model scheme based on engine power.

  • FQ-300, 320, 340 – 6-st. checkpoint; Bilstein shock absorbers; A.Y.C.
  • FQ-360 – 6-st. checkpoint; Bilstein shock absorbers; A.Y.C.; Ralliart SMK sensors; carbon front splitter; Wheels from Speedline.
  • MR FQ-360 – turbine with titanium-aluminum impeller; Speedline Turini wheels; toning; Eibach springs; salon from IX MR.
  • FQ-400 is an analogue of FQ-360 with 400 horses on the flywheel.

The FQ-360 version was less powerful than its counterpart, the FQ-400, but received more torque. The Evo IX MR FQ-360 was produced in limited edition in 2007. The power units of all four models were designed to run exclusively on unleaded gasoline.

USA

Four models were available for the US domestic market, running on the same power plants.

  • Standard – standard version with a modified 5-speed. Checkpoint.
  • RS – modified 5-speed. checkpoint; add. sensors; ascetic salon; no radio.
  • SE – 5-speed gearbox; BBS disks; interior trim “Diamond black”; HID headlight-integrated fog lights; Recaro seats.
  • MR – 6-st. checkpoint; Bilstein shock absorbers; BBS wheels; a set of sensors; HID headlight-integrated fog lights; vortex flow generator; front brake cooling system.

All “Americans” differed slightly in their configurations and capabilities: acceleration, maximum speed and handling. The RS version was generally deprived of many functions (stereo system, power windows, central locking, rear wiper, spoiler, trunk trim, sound insulation) that came as standard options in the SE and MR models. As a result of savings, the weight of the Evo IX RS is 36 kg lighter than its predecessor of the previous generation. The fuel tank volume remains the same as the Evo VIII - 53 liters.

The Standard model in the SSL package added: a reinforced sunroof, xenon HID headlights with built-in fog lights, a modified stereo head unit, upgraded speakers, a music amplifier, a subwoofer, leather door panels and seats, modified center armrests, and rear head restraints

Philippines

In the Philippines, the Evo 9 was sold in two variations.

  • RS – 5-speed checkpoint; Brembo wheels; Otherwise, almost all the same options and trim as the standard GSR.
  • MR – the model was offered as a car in the Top-of-The-line segment and had options and finishes almost similar to the international version MR.

All versions were equipped with I-4 4G63 2.0 liter turbocharged power units with the MIVEC system.

IX MR retained a number of features of the standard modification of Evolution 9 MR, including: gearbox; shock absorbers; roof air intake; BBS disks; HID and fog lights; add. devices; as well as the Zero Lift package, which includes several aerodynamic elements.

Mitsubishi later released the Evolution IX station wagon in GT, GT-A and MR models, as well as the Evolution MIEV, a ninth-generation version of the Evo with a 62-horsepower electric motor.

Lancer Evolution IX Wagon

The Evolution IX Wagon first rolled off the assembly line in the fall of 2005. There were two station wagon versions on sale, both with permanent all-wheel drive.

  • GT – 6-speed checkpoint; DOHC 2.0 l with a maximum power of 280 hp. With.; systems: MIVEC and ACD, Bilstein shock absorbers and Brembo brakes; turbocharging; intercooler
  • GT-A – 5 speed automatic transmission; DOHC 2.0 with a maximum power of 272 hp. With.; ACD; Bilstein shock absorbers and Brembo brakes; turbocharging and intercooler.

Engine Lancer Evolution IX

From the first to the ninth generation, the Evo's engine was a two-liter turbocharged 4G63. Of course, this legendary power unit was constantly refined and improved, so it has far from the only modification.

The engine was developed on the basis of the naturally aspirated 4G63, the height of the cylinder head is 229 mm. Initially, the 4G63T was equipped with: a crankshaft with a piston stroke (height of 35 mm) - 88 mm, connecting rods 150 mm long, oil nozzles for cooling the pistons. The two-shaft 16-valve DOHC cylinder head had: 450 cc injectors (for versions with automatic transmission - 390 cc), a 60 mm damper, a two-stage intake manifold, a turbine - TD05H 14B (in versions with automatic transmission - TD05H 13G). Subsequently, this 4G63T configuration was changed many times.

In 2005, especially for the Evo 9, the modified 4G63T unit was equipped with the MIVEC system - variable valve lift technology, which significantly improves fuel consumption by changing the valve dwell time on the intake cam. MIVEC is similar to Honda's i-VTEC system.

Conclusion

In June 2006, just at the peak of its popularity, the ninth-generation Lancer Evolution received the title of "Best Aggressive Sports Sedan" among the "Best Sports Sedans" according to ConsumerSearch.

Prices for Lancer Evolution IX on the secondary market

The Evo 9 was produced serially until 2007, so today it can only be purchased on the secondary market. Prices for cars of decent appearance and good technical condition in Russia start at 500 thousand rubles. However, there are rally and modernized versions with a cost of 2 million rubles.

If the car’s engine was not modified, and it was in caring hands all the time, then the Evo 9 can be safely taken with a mileage of 150-200 thousand km.

Buying any sports car with a mileage of 100 thousand km or more is always a certain risk. The stock engine of the Lancer Evolution 9 calmly “watches out” its service life of 300 thousand, and you don’t have to worry about the turbine either. The automatic transmission is praised less; it is believed that the five-speed gearbox is more reliable.

Many car owners say that there is nothing better than the stock Evo 9 engine, and it is dangerous to force it, as there may be problems with the gearbox, AYC, etc.

The technical characteristics and condition of any used car largely depend on how it was used. After all, a car can be driven away in 20 thousand km, but in “direct hands” the Evo 9 will “run” another 300 thousand km.

Original consumables for the Evo 9 are no more expensive than for any other Japanese cars. The suspension is the same.

Well, in fact, every car has its sore spots, so you need to choose the one that is closest to your heart.
