The highest quality cars. Rating of the most reliable cars

At the beginning of November 2015, the German "Union for Technical Control and Supervision" (TUV) presented to the public the next rating "TUV 2016", reflecting the degree of reliability of used cars over two years old. By tradition, initially, the "public rating" is available in the format "TOP10-LAST10" and by 2016 its full version has been published.

Within its framework, specialists from Germany examined the technical condition of about 9 million cars in five age groups (a total of 223 popular models were included in the report), after which they identified the percentage of "iron horses" that "failed" to inspect the first time due to the presence of technical problems.

In the age class, unconditional leadership was taken by Mercedes-Benz cars, which occupied the entire “pedestal of honor”. The B-class hatchback took the first place, the owners of which only in 2.8% of cases needed to contact service centers to fix technical problems, followed by the GLK crossover and the SLK roadster with results of 2.9% and 3.1%, respectively. Worst of all are Chevrolet Spark (14.6%), Fiat 500 (14.1%) and Fiat Punto (13.3%).

In the age segment, the Audi A1 performed best with a score of 5.7%, which outperformed the BMW Z4 by 0.3% and the Audi Q5 by 0.4%, which came in second and third respectively. But the obvious outsider here was Dacia Logan, which failed to pass technical inspection in 28.1% of cases. Fiat Panda and Dacia Sandero performed a little better – 23.3% and 22.8% respectively.

The "palm" in the category went to the Porsche 911, which has only 8.9% of the "marriage". Toyota Prius was slightly inferior to it in reliability with a score of 9.6%, and Volkswagen Golf Plus settled in third place, which in 10.3% of cases was forced to visit car services. You won't envy the owners of Chevrolet Matiz, Dacia Logan and Renault Kangoo, whose cars scored 34.6%, 32.9% and 31.4% respectively.

In the age class, the Porsche 911 once again excelled, which had technical problems in only 11.7% of cases. Toyota Prius lagged behind by 1.4%, and Mazda MX-5 by 3.4%. Renault Kangoo and Kia Sorento turned out to be the most unreliable cars with 35.1% of "defective" each, as well as Renault Twingo with 34.6%.

Once again, the leading position in the segment was occupied by the Porsche 911, which only in 13.9% of cases caused problems to its owners. "Silver" went to Toyota Corolla Verso with a score of 17.5%, while Toyota RAV4 had to be content with "bronze" - 18.7%. At the opposite end of the rating, Fiat Stilo, Mercedes-Benz M-class and Ford Galaxy are registered – 44.0%, 43.7% and 41.8% respectively.

The TUV 2016 report is very valuable for Russian car enthusiasts, because within its framework the Germans work with cars in the European specification, which are usually (with minimal changes or no changes at all) sold in our country.

Despite the crisis, the automotive industry in Russia continues to grow. We are talking not only about the sale of new cars, but also about used models. The fact is that residents of big cities have understood that even with huge traffic jams, it is better to use your own transport than public transport.

When choosing a car, the future driver pays attention to some features. For example, specifications, range before failure, initial price and cost of replacement parts in the future. But, the main thing in this list is reliability.

As you know, in 2015, Toyota became the most high-quality and popular car brand. Its superiority is undeniable, as well as reliability. Of course, many relied on Volkswagen, because it was this concern that held the lead for many years, and was the only answer to the question "which brand of car is better." But, the diesel scandal prevented, which they do not stop talking about, although more than six months have passed.

Do the Japanese really deserve the top spot in the rankings? In this article, we decided to look into this. So, which car brand is better in 2016. Also, at the end of the article, we will give you some myths about the reliability of cars of different brands.

In terms of cost, cars from Mazda and FORD should be noted. They are quite inexpensive during operation, and they can be called the best brands of cars in this category.

The build quality of these models causes quite a few complaints. But from the point of view of equipping the cabin, this option is not the most acceptable. Everything here is very scarce. And the point is not that the designers of the concerns do not work well, but that the directorate of brands prefers the classics. All this is covered by the highest technical parameters of the mentioned cars.

Let's move on to Honda. Cars of this brand have an excellent appearance. They are suitable for lovers of style and solidity. The speed and reliability of Japanese cars are all in doubt. Of course, the cost of the car in the salons will be slightly higher than the segment models, but the parts and fuel consumption will be quite inexpensive.

Well, it is impossible not to mention the cars from Hyundai and KIA. With excellent reliability, they are quite inexpensive. Moreover, not only during the initial purchase, but also during further operation. Stylish appearance and technological equipment of the salon attracts young buyers. And, although concerns are included in the rating of "the best brands of cars", they do not reach the leaders. There are also some shortcomings in terms of the lack of additional accessories, but everything is compensated by huge advantages, such as handling and dynamism.

A few words about cars from Volkswagen

Cars from Volkswagen until 2016 were considered the best in the world. In 2015 there was a diesel scandal, which we have already mentioned above. But, the fact is that the technical characteristics of the models are still just excellent (if you give preference to a gasoline unit, so as not to risk it).

Cars of the German concern are worthy of attention, and if you are wondering which car is better, take a closer look at them. They are comfortable in terms of interior design, perfect in technical data and unsurpassed in their handling. You can choose a car of any price range and body type. Sedans, minivans and SUVs are distinguished by excellent maneuverability, regardless of their size. They are excellent vehicles for both the city and the highway.

The company's specialists are constantly improving the appearance of machines and their technical data. The latest progressive novelties of modern technologies appear in the salon. The issue of security here is also at the highest level.

Advantages of cars from Toyota

Since Toyota was recognized as the best car brand, it is impossible to bypass it in this rating. By purchasing the line of the concern, you will not know the problems with the maintenance, handling and appearance of the car.

On the road, you will feel confident. At the same time, the car does almost all the work without the help of a driver. New models monitor the area, giving you information about the nearest transport, lanes on the road, the possibility of turning, and even the type of coverage.

Searching for spare parts will not take much time, as they can be purchased at any outlet. You may not think about what service maintenance is in the next 10 years after the purchase.

Japanese cars are easy to use, reliable and comfortable. The concern is placed at the head of all other companies for good reason. After all, every car that rolled off the assembly line is a work of art and engineering.

Determining which brand of cars can be considered the best in 2016, it is worth noting a certain axiom. Most future drivers think that modern cars are not as reliable and of high quality as they used to be. Also, the Japanese are called unshakable, and cheap cars "interfere with the dirt."

First, that cars used to be better. There is an opinion that concerns began to use components of lower quality. Allegedly, parts are purchased from third world countries. But, they do not take into account one fact - Chinese companies can make spare parts of the same quality as global concerns. For example, Fuyao Glass Industry, which became the second largest supplier of parts. It is the largest manufacturer of components for Volkswagen and Toyota.

At the same time, modern statistics indicate that cars have become more reliable than before. For every 100 Mercedes engines, there is only one breakdown. In general, spare parts now withstand dynamic driving much longer, and even 300 thousand kilometers of run are not terrible for them. It all depends on the company.

By the way, we bring to your attention the top worst cars in terms of reliability that you can find on the used car market. The list was compiled back in 2014 by Warranty Direct and has not changed to this day. Unfortunately, for many it will be shocking and strange. After all, half of it is made up of models of the German automotive industry, which were once the flagships. But, as they say, what is - is. So, the rating itself:

  • Audi RS6 (2002-2011);
  • BMW M5 (2004-2011);
  • Mercedes-Benz SL (2002-2012);
  • Mercedes-Benz Viano (1996-2004);
  • Mercedes-Benz CL (2000-2007);
  • Audi A6 Allroad (2000-2005);
  • Bentley Continental GT (2003-2012);
  • Porsche 911 (2001-2006);
  • Range Rover (2002-2012);
  • Citroen XM (1994-2000).

Keep this in mind when deciding which brand of car to buy. Next, we want to talk about what some consider Japanese brands to be reliable. Let's show it with an illustrative example. The ambassador from Japan, who came to Russia quite recently, drove alternately in Lexus and Mercedes cars. The reason for this was a private breakdown of one of the cars. And it's not about Mercedes. Sure, Toyota's cars have been getting "fixed" lately, but there have been a few massive recalls in recent years.

Well, it is also worth mentioning that cheap cars can be no worse than premium ones. It all depends on your ability to drive a car. Recently, some small cars in terms of their comfort have long been knocked out as leaders. It's another matter if you don't like their appearance. Although, models such as the Toyota Prius, Mazda 2 and Toyota Auris are produced both with excellent technical data and with a unique body shape that suits most consumers. Therefore, thinking about which brand of car is better to buy, be guided only by your tastes.

There is a Chinese proverb: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step".

Choosing a reliable brand of car for a motorist is only one step in the purchase of a vehicle, but it is perhaps the most important. After all, driving a car subject to frequent breakdowns means endangering not only yourself, but also passengers and even pedestrians. That is why the German technical control organization TÜV Rheinland (TUV), with over 800 branches worldwide, conducts an annual study to identify most reliable cars.

Gold in the ranking of the most reliable cars in the 2-3-year category was awarded to Mercedes B class. What is good for the Germans, who are stingy with praise, is in this case also good for the Russians. This passenger car can be recommended to those who are looking for the most reliable car for Russia.

The most reliable car in the secondary market in the 4-5 year group is the Audi A1. The cars of the German company Porcshe and the Japanese Toyota got the first and second places among the most reliable cars in 2016 (rating of cars from six to seven, from eight to nine and from ten to eleven years).

Here's what the lists of leaders and outsiders look like in the TUV study.

The TUV report for 2016 notes that every fourth or fifth car has to undergo a technical inspection again, due to serious malfunctions. Most often, inspectors find faults in lighting. The inspectors also complained about frequent malfunctions in the chassis, problems with the brakes and an oil leak in the engine. But rust is almost non-existent.

The more years the car, the more extensive its list of problems. For different brands of cars of a small “age” (2-3 years), the number of faults identified during technical inspection does not exceed 7.8%. But for expensive and budget cars with mileage, whose service life is 10-11 years, the number of malfunctions was 31.4%. TUV experts recommend not neglecting regular inspections and monitoring the quality of the selected service station.

He stressed that this year there has been an increase in reliability indicators among expensive auto brands, Japanese brands are once again establishing themselves as reliable manufacturers. *

As stated on consumerreports.org in the introduction to the article on car reliability:

It's easy to appreciate the style, roominess and features of a new car in a showroom. You can even take it for a test drive to see how it performs against your expectations. However, there is no such express way, a test drive for the reliability of a vehicle. This takes time and research.

The Annual Auto Reliability Survey was created to determine the reliability of vehicles. It is with its help that you can more or less accurately determine which cars will be reliable, and which ones are more likely to become a significant headache for future owners.

The ranking is based on a study of more than half a million vehicles, covering more than 300 models from 2000 to 2016. Some of the models on the research list also belong to the 2017 model year.

Brand Trust Trends

First big news: . Toyota, according to Consumer Reports, uses proven methods to create its cars, adopting a conservative, evolutionary approach.

Buick is one of the top three brands this year. Let's not be afraid to say that this is a truly special event in the history of the automotive world, because over the past 35 years, no American brand has been included in the Top 3 most reliable cars according to this magazine.

Basically Buick bribed the researchers with the maturity of its products. Most of the problems associated with the reliability of its execution were leveled. The American brand has begun to move forward intensively, adopting several new models that can influence the future of the brand in a positive way.

But on the contrary, it didn't work out. The Japanese company withdrew from the Top 10 Trusted Brands due to multiple issues with Legacy sedans and station wagons. Their rating has been downgraded to medium. The situation for the brand worsened by the fact that the legendary models of the manufacturer WRX / STi turned out to be even worse in terms of reliability.

As for Tesla. The famous sedan confirmed its average reliability in the latest study. Here we need to make a small digression. With this model of the American automaker, things are not so simple. Previously, the Model S was recommended by Consumer Reports as an extremely reliable vehicle. Several years passed, Tesla had problems in the reliability of some units, plus fires during accidents and recent accidents, the rating fell to the minimum.

In the current study, the reliability rating for the Model S has been improved to reach the average. Now CR is recommending Tesla cars for purchase, however, warning that owners may not have an easy life with them.

The situation is much worse with the new SUV. This model became notorious for its problems, including its complex rear door opening system, the Falcon-wing. Tesla electric vehicles are distinguished by the presence of an autopilot system that allows the car to maintain traffic in the lane, track speed, monitor safety and follow a given route.

Recall that last year withdrew his recommendations for buying cars Tesla Model S, resulting in the share price Tesla on the US stock exchange fell by 10% in just one day.

Who entered the list of the most reliable and who flew out of this list in 2016

Consumer Reports' recommendations are based on fairly comprehensive research and include three key areas: road testing, predicted reliability, owner satisfaction from the Annual Auto Survey, and independent safety testing.

The list includes car models that are recommended for purchase or vice versa are not recommended for purchase according to the latest Consumer Reports reliability study.

consumerReports gives three practical tips for buying a reliable new car

Tip 1: Don't buy a car based on a brand

Not all vehicles in the brand's lineup are created equal in terms of quality. For example, Infiniti has models made with the highest reliability level of 91 points for the Q70 sedan, and on the contrary, the QX60 crossover model scored only 33 points. The Ford Expedition SUV impresses with its reliability, but the Fiesta has a lot of problems with endurance and reliability. is in the Top 5, but the A3 model ranks below average in the rating.

Tip 2: Wait a year or two before buying a new or restyled model

It is true that some brands, such as Lexus and Toyota, are able to produce reliable cars over a long period of time, but even they are not immune from putting a real wreck on the market. The Tacoma pickup version was unreliable during its first year of production until the problem was fixed, it took three years for the Ford Escape to be fixed, putting it in the middle league for reliability in the rankings. In general, sometimes years pass before something is done.

Be careful when buying a new car model or its restyled version. Upgrading can mean new parts, new systems, and new problems.

Tip 3: The more technological the car, the more problems it will have.

It is also reasonable that complex modern systems do not add reliability.

Over the past few years, Ford has had trouble with the MyFord Touch and MyLincoln Touch infotainment systems, as well as the dual-clutch automated transmission system in the Fiesta and Focus models. The owners of the new Honda and Acura in some trim levels also had problems with multimedia and gearbox. In contrast, those owners who preferred the simpler Ford or Honda model had much less problems.

According to the American edition, the most reliable car manufacturer is Lexus, which holds the lead for the fourth year in a row. In second place is the sister brand Toyota, and the third most reliable car brand is Buick, which has risen by 4 positions compared to last year.

The South Korean brand KIA moved up one position from the top five in the reliability rating, while the German company Audi, on the contrary, lost ground a little. If we talk about the most significant leap, Infiniti showed it, improving its position in the list of brands that produce the most reliable cars, immediately by 16 positions!

If we talk about cars, the reliability of which raises questions, among them were very famous brands. We should also mention the manufacturer of electric vehicles - Tesla. American researchers included this brand in the list of not the most reliable because of the Tesla Model X crossover, which was being prepared for release at an accelerated pace, which as a result caused some "childhood illnesses". But the passenger Tesla Model S, on the contrary, has become more reliable than before.
