Owner reviews Volkswagen Passat B4

Volkswagen Passat B4, 1994

Initially, I wanted to buy a VAZ 10 model of 2 or 3-year-olds, but, in the end, relatives and friends advised against it. My uncle had a Passat about 5 years ago and I really liked it, so the choice fell on the Volkswagen Passat B4. I was lucky with the purchase, I bought from a woman, she constantly serviced the car in good service. The only "jamb" was a crack on the windshield. I owned the car for about a year and only rejoiced. Plant in any frost, never failed. For all the time, except for the "consumables" changed only the rear struts. Very pleased with the dynamics of the machine, handling. On the track at 150 km / h Volkswagen Passat B4 as a ship, is confident. Money spent sparingly, good oil, belts, candles. After the purchase, I put the 15th discs on low tires, toned and more or less acceptable music was installed. I was just in love with the car. I was pleased with the rather low fuel consumption - 7 liters on the highway and 10 in the city, for 2 liters, I think this is very personal. A separate plus of the Volkswagen Passat B4 is sound insulation, it is on top. The salon is very comfortable, everything is at hand, nothing more. The driver's seat is adjustable as you like, which is very convenient for long trips. The trunk is huge. There is more than enough space in the cabin. I drove and rejoiced until one type on UAZ "loaf" jumped out to me on the "oncoming" road. Frontal tangential blow and throws me into a ditch against a tree. As a result, the car is beyond repair, and I only have 3 scratches on my hand from spilled glass. The pillows did their job. Long ran on insurance, swore. The damage was estimated at 190 thousand rubles, but they paid only 120 at the “maximum”. Well, I also turned up at a friend's Volkswagen Passat B4, only diesel and weaker equipment. I have been driving for 3 months and I understand that the Passat B4 is really a “people's car”. The machine is worth the money. For all the time I have never regretted that I bought this model.

Advantages : maintainability. Available spare parts. Dynamics. Safety. Comfort.

Flaws : constantly freezing door after washing in winter.

Volkswagen Passat B4, 1995

There is an opinion that the Volkswagen Passat B4 is a very cheap, reliable, unpretentious, comfortable car. Here I want to deal with these dogmas on my own example. Definitely, for a 1995 model, the Volkswagen Passat B4 is very reliable, breakdowns are extremely rare, and with the timely replacement of worn-out spare parts with high-quality ones, they are rarely repeated twice by the same owner. This does not apply to the suspension, with our roads this element of the car can be considered a “consumable”. But even here you need to understand that the more original the spare part in the suspension, the longer it will last. Comfort: yes, it's definitely a comfortable car. Salon is not just big, but huge. Enough space for both front and rear passengers. I, with a height of 192 cm, do not fully move the seat (if you push it all the way back, I won’t reach the pedals with my feet) and people of my own build are quite freely placed behind me. Despite the fact that the car is a sedan, the trunk is large and roomy, plus the backs of the rear seats fold in a ratio of 60:40, which allows you to carry long loads. There may be problems with loading large luggage due to the somewhat narrow trunk opening, but this is a sedan, if you need a “workhorse” for transporting dimensions, then the Variant (station wagon) is more suitable for you. Ergonomics of the Volkswagen Passat B4 is on top. There are not many functions in the car, and it is very convenient to manage all of them. A cursory glance is enough to adjust the temperature in the cabin next time, turn on the air conditioner or raise the mirrors without looking at the controls: everything is at hand, everything is convenient. Engine 2E: 2.0 liters, 115 "horses". Great motor. Of the entire line of Volkswagen Passat B4 engines, in my opinion, the 2E is the most balanced. Economical: city 10-11 liters, highway 7 liters. Acceleration to “hundreds” takes 11 seconds, which is quite enough for a dynamic ride. Reliable and unpretentious. I have never heard or read any complaints about this unit. And I won’t scold him myself, just for nothing. The main thing is to maintain it on time and use high-quality fuel and lubricants.

Advantages : not expensive, reliable, unpretentious, comfortable car.

Flaws : soundproofing.

Volkswagen Passat B4, 1995

My first car was a 1985 Audi 100, also a diesel, not a bad car, but I wanted something newer. I was looking for a sedan or hatchback, a station wagon not to my taste, I chose from Renault Laguna, Audi and VW Golf. But the choice fell on the Volkswagen Passat B4 1.9 td. Imported from Belgium. For the first year of operation, no problems. I bought it on November 20 - as it came from there, no replacements. I changed the fuel filter only in the summer and still continue to ride it. In winter, in any frost, the plant has never failed. I don’t know how it is in Russia, but in Latvia DT is at the highest level. If you do not spare money, but refuel at good gas stations, then there will be no problems. Fuel consumption in the city in the summer is 6-6.5, and in the winter 7-7.5, on the highway you can invest in 5 liters if the speed is 90 km / h. For 15 months of operation, the Volkswagen Passat B4 has changed the rear struts, the front left bearing and the stabilizer link. Recently, oil began to drip in the filter area, I thought that it was badly tightened after changing the oil, but no, the gasket, the replacement cost 10 euros, I did it at the service, I didn’t dare myself. And so only "consumables", oil, filters and that's it. But the door handles do not suit me, they do not open well, and in the cold they break like matches. Since diesel does not like high speeds, I drive on the highway within 100 km / h, and in Latvia there are large fines for exceeding.

Advantages : economy. Pickup. Ease of maintenance and operation.

Flaws : as I think, on the Volkswagen Passat B4 one drawback is the doors.

Today, having about $ 8,000 in your pocket, you can become the owner of a completely “fresh” Lada Priora, or some kind of budget foreign car. Nowadays, not many people decide to buy a fairly large car over 15 years old, if its cost is comparable to the price of a 5-year-old small class car. As a rule, powerful six-cylinder sedans with independent suspensions require significantly more investments than city cars with 1.6L engines, but today we will consider a car that, despite belonging to the D-class, is distinguished by its simplicity of design, maintainability and availability of spare parts, This is the fourth generation of the Volkswagen Passat. Production of the Volkswagen Passat B4 began in 1993, and in fact, the Passat B4 is a deep modernization of the previous model -. Of course, you won’t recognize B4 anymore, but from B3, in the fourth Passat, not only the engine, but also the suspension with gearbox, the difference of the new model mainly lies in the new body. The release of the Passat B4 was completed in 1997, when it entered the scene.

A few words about appearance

Look at the photo of the Volkswagen Passat B4, the B4 differs from the B3 primarily in the presence of a traditional radiator grille, which the B3 did not have. The B4 body is only partially galvanized, and therefore, buying the fourth Passat today, it is quite possible that you will notice rust on the car body. Pay attention to the corner in the front door, in the area of \u200b\u200bthe side mirror, according to the owners, it is in this place, under Moisture accumulates in the rubber seal, due to water that flows into the seal from the side glass, which eventually leads to rust. In addition to the sedan, the B4 was also produced as a station wagon, which was called the Variant by Volkswagen. Dimensions of the fourth Passat: length - 4610mm, width - 1715mm, height - 1433mm. Despite the fact that modern C-class cars have similar dimensions today, I repeat, at that time, the Passat B4 was a full-fledged D-class car. From the factory, the ground clearance (clearance) of the Volkswagen Passat is 119mm. Basic modifications of the Passat are shod with tires: 185/65 R14, a powerful modification of the VR6 is shod with tires: 205/50 R15.

Salon Volkswagen Passat B4

The basic equipment of the B4 includes an airbag - and for the driver and front passenger, which is also a positive thing. According to the reviews of the owners of the Volkswagen Passat B4, over time, the teeth in the raising and lowering mechanism grind off, which leads to difficult operation of the power windows. Most Trade Winds are equipped with hydraulic power steering. Also according to reviews, the Volkswagen Passat B4 is equipped with a powerful stove. The fourth Passat is distinguished by a very spacious rear sofa, which is ready to take even four passengers, in general, it will not be an exaggeration to say that in those years the Passat B4 was the most spacious D-class car. The trunk of the sedan holds 495 liters.

Technical component and Characteristics of the Volkswagen Passat B4

According to experts on the Fourth Passat, it is better for yourself to look after a car with distributive rather than mono-injection, because the single-injection of the fourth Passat suffers from a failure of the electronic throttle, which manifests itself in louder than usual engine operation, as well as increased fuel consumption. In addition, in single-injector Trade winds, the gasket between the injector and the intake manifold often burns out, which is also unlikely to please the owner.

All power plants of the fourth Passat are equipped with hydraulic thermal gap compensators, which saves the car owner from the need to periodically adjust the valves. Usually, with a timely oil change in the engine, hydraulic lifters are enough for 250,000 km.

Four-cylinder Passat engines have a timing belt drive, and powerful, six-cylinder Passat VR6 have a timing chain drive. If the replacement of the belt in the engine of a German car should be carried out every 60,000 km, while it is necessary to replace the tension roller, then the timing chain serves the entire life of the engine.

For the fourth generation Volkswagen Passat, the following gasoline engines were offered: 1.6 16v (sixteen-valve) with a capacity of 101 hp, 1.8 for 75 and 90 hp, 2.0 8v delivering 115 hp, 2.0 16v - 150 hp and a powerful six-cylinder VR6 modification with a volume 2.8 develops 174hp. Passat VR6 gains 100 km per hour in 8.7 seconds, and on the highway such a car is able to compete with BMW and other powerful sedans, because the maximum speed of 224 km is comparable to the speed capabilities of the Mitsubishi Galant and BMW E34 525 Vanos. Diesel engines have the same volume of 1.9 liters, one of the two engines is equipped with supercharging. According to experts, with a mileage exceeding 200,000 km, the front and rear crankshaft oil seals can leak on a turbodiesel engine. The turbine itself, with proper operation, is capable of going 250,000 km.

The fourth-generation Volkswagen Passat can be equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox, or a four-speed automatic transmission. According to reviews, the bearings of the primary and secondary shafts of the Passat manual gearbox may require replacement after 200 thousand kilometers, worn bearings can be heard from the more noisy operation of the manual gearbox.

A strong chattering of the manual transmission lever, as well as difficult gear shifting, will tell you about the need for an early replacement of the bushings of the backstage. Fuzzy gear shifting on the Passat B4 may be due to a loose cable. It is worth saying that already 20 years ago, the VRG of this car was equipped with a cable drive, which VAZ workers are so proud of today, who installed a manual gearbox with a cable drive on the new Lada Kalina.

On the Passat, the engine power of which does not exceed 115 hp, drum brakes were installed at the rear, and on cars with a power of over 115 hp, disc brakes were installed not only in front, but also in the rear. When replacing brake pads on disc brakes, the brake pad guides must be lubricated.

The great advantage of the fourth Passat is a hardy and reliable running gear. Ball bearings on this car, like silent blocks, are changed separately from the levers. Ball joints are usually enough for 80,000 km, and the rear hinges of the front levers (which serve the least of all other silent blocks) are enough for 60,000 km. Silent blocks of the rear beam serve 70,000 - 80,000 km. The stabilizer struts on the Passat B4 serve about 40,000 km.

Volkswagen Passat B4 price

The Volkswagen Passat is one of the most liquid cars on the used car market. So the price of Volkswagen Passat B4 is about $8,000. Of course, having 8,000 dollars in your pocket, you can buy not only the Volkswagen Passat, but even some other, more prestigious cars of those years.

Below, you can write your review on the site, just your opinion about the Volkswagen Passat B4. Maybe you own or drove such a car, your opinion will be useful to many people who may be eyeing the fourth generation Passat.

Volkswagen Passat B3 - overview
Volkswagen Passat B2 - mini review and specifications

Good day. I am 28 years old. I live in the regional center of the Russian hinterland. I own passat "om b4 (1996 onwards) for 2 years.

The opportunity to personally purchase your car arose instantly, as soon as my friend got the rights (after deprivation) and took the six back. Eyes fell on the passat b3. But wandering around the market in Voronezh, I came across a B4 1997 (later I realized that it was produced only until 1996, and those who like to lie and confuse the year the start of operation and the year of manufacture often speculate on this). It cost 175 tr. in 2012. And that same friend convinced me that it was better to add 40 tr. and buy B4, because it had climate control, ABS, in the ZZZ wine code - this is galvanization, pillows and in general it looks cooler ...... I bought it.

When making a purchase and sale, it turned out that the owner, who told how he goes to the country, starts in the winter, etc. and so on. not the owner, but outbid. I see the transits of the 77th region., I understand that it's outbid ... .. Okay ... I'm already in love with the car, but I realize that it's a pig in a poke. When I get home, I check... Guys say that I changed the engine in 2002 from 2e to 2e, well, figs with it, it means I need to change it (I also knew that the car was painted). On the second day, the car does not start .. the old lock figured out ... the key needs to be pressed down a little, and I do this 1-3 days a quarter, the rest of the time everything is ok. It’s clear that you can’t trust the seller and I change the belt, roller, oil ... I fill in mobile synthetics, expensive 2.5-3 tr. I don't remember exactly. A week later, I find that the rear axle brake discs are 70% rusty, I change the caliper disc pads, somewhere around 10,000 rubles. with work. I note that the machines are complete zero. A month later, it’s warmer ... the conder is not working, I refueled it myself ... 1.5-2 weeks and it’s hot again, I understand that there is a crack somewhere or something else, in general, the antifreeze is leaving, but since I bought this device with the last money, I’m postponing kondeya repair for later, in short, it still does not work, did not understand, I hope that I will manage to replace the tube, but the compressor is intact.

Strengths:

  • Controllability
  • Comfort
  • Spare parts price

Weak sides:

  • Age
  • Some spare parts cannot be bought, only used

Review of Volkswagen Passat 1.8 (Volkswagen Passat) 1994

Hi all!

I want to tell my story of the operation of their trade winds. I used to live in Kazakhstan, Shymkent. Many of my friends had trade winds b3. I liked the interior most of all (everyone had a station wagon) because there was a lot of space in it, especially when you expand the rear seats! Cheapness of spare parts Once we left the cafe and caught a taxi. We got into the car and drove off. From the beginning I could not understand, like a trade wind, but outside the view is different. I talked to the driver and he said that it was a trade wind, but B4. I really liked the car and decided to take one!

I am about 6 months old. I went around the flea market, went to the familiar haulers, but I didn’t find anything worthy! Then I Skyped with my classmate who lives in Germany and shared with his searches. And he said, if I have the finances, then come visit and see the car! I thought for a week and decided I had to go! I told a friend and he sent me an invitation letter, which went for a month! In general, I came to Germany, rested for 4 days and started looking for a car. Literally a week later, friends of his friend called a friend and said that there is a person who has a B4 trade wind in the garage.

Review of Volkswagen Passat 2.0 16V (Volkswagen Passat) 1994 Part 2

Good day, dear guests and residents of the site! Promised sequel:

It's May in the yard, I drove another ~ 2000 km. Not much, but there is nowhere to go, everything is nearby, everything is at hand.

Foltz left the winter with dignity. It always started up (except for the case with a dead battery at -30 C), it never got stuck, although it wasn’t modest - by January, the public utilities had completely stopped working, and the winter was snowy, so I began to practice “parking in a snowdrift” - you drank where something in the snow and throw the car, if only not to block the passage. Once I drove backwards into a stone staircase (seemingly an ordinary snowdrift), I thought the bumper was torn off, but no, nothing happened. He kept the snowy road with a bang, and therefore the winter driving style is almost the same as the summer one. Positive emotions, mostly.

Strengths:

  • Does not break, does not require attention

Weak sides:

  • The purely aesthetic question of age

Review of Volkswagen Passat 2.0 16V (Volkswagen Passat) 1994

Good day, dear residents and guests of the site!

I want to draw your attention to the fact that I own a car for only about three months and during this time I drove only a little more than 1100 km! In addition, this is my first car, and I get to know its device as it is used. Thus, the review will be more about the general features of this car: about its exterior, interior, behavior on the road and other little things that I managed to pay attention to. I will write more in-depth information on the car after the spring MOT.

So, let's begin:

Strengths:

  • Decent car for the money

Weak sides:

  • Fuel consumption (in my case)

Review of Volkswagen Passat Variant 1.8 (Volkswagen Passat) 1994 Part 2

Well, I have already driven 35 thousand km on my B4 since the last review ... I went through the suspension in the summer - 12t.r., the car became softer and more comfortable, like in those. plan thought that there was nothing more to break and it was a pity to sell, I decided to ride for another year. The first breakdown was not long in coming - the fuel pump burned out, in tow to the service - they changed it, 3500 rubles. Next, the replacement of the front pads, and with them the brake discs, one caliper, at the same time the anthers of the CV joints (one was completely torn, the second was running out).

I drove for three weeks without problems, then for no reason at all, the 5th gear began to jump off, it’s good that there is access to it without removing the box, I went to the service - they dismantled it, the gear was unscrewed, at the same time I changed the oil in the box, screwed everything, the problem remained, but after 2 weeks everything went away by itself - miracles. Then the clutch began to disappear, the slave cylinder dripped — changed. Next crunched inner CV joint — replacement. A week after the replacement, a crunch appeared again, I thought that they did it badly, I arrived, they began to look - the wheel bearing on the other side crumbled, changed.

Strengths:

  • Appearance

Weak sides:

  • Junk, you can sit in the service at least every weekend

Review of Volkswagen Passat Variant 1.8 (Volkswagen Passat) 1994

Prior to that, he owned the 8th, 10th, Audi 80, Passat B3. When buying, I was looking for exactly B4, because in all forums I was already tired of reading legends about its unbreakability and durability. And my b3 was already completely falling apart, every weekend I spent in the service. B4 was looking for a long time, carefully, more or less good specimens were very expensive (adding 40-50 thousand could take B5). But suddenly I saw an ad: handsome, all shiny, garage - 165 tr. I, of course, rushed to see him.

I arrived, the body is ideally polished, not a single scratch, not a hitch, everything shines under the hood. Started, rolled, day and night after my third. The suspension is simply gorgeous, you don’t feel the pits at all, the hydraulic booster — the steering wheel is spinning with one finger, rushing like a tank at 90hp. Without hesitation threw some money and took his swallow. I went without problems in April, May, June, July, August, I only filled gasoline and washer, I could not get enough of it. But my illusion about non-fragility quickly faded away ...

Strengths:

  • Appearance

Weak sides:

  • old

I welcome everyone!

For a long time I dreamed of my own car. Initially, I wanted to buy a 2 or 3 year old Vaz 10 model, but in the end, relatives and friends advised against it. • maintainability
  • Available parts

Review Volkswagen 1.6 (101 hp) 5mkpp (Volkswagen Passat) 1996 Part 2

Good day!

So, finally, I decided to write the 2nd part of the review about the car.

Autumn has come, the car is used every day, the time has come to change the oil, I changed it, filled the Castrol 5w40 with synthetics, the car spends the night on the street, so the oil must be good so that it can be delivered in any frost, I changed it myself. I bought an air, oil and gasoline filter, I gave 1900 rubles for everything. with pennies somewhere.

Strengths:

  • Predictable

Weak sides:

  • The years take their toll

Review of Volkswagen Passat Variant 1.8 (Volkswagen Passat) 1992

Hi everyone who reads!!!

The time has come for me to buy a car. Before that, I went on what I have to, i.e. then you can take it from your father (Opel Amega In a sedan), then from your brother a fawn 407. I wanted to take such a car so that it would be practical, roomy and inexpensive to maintain.

At first, I didn’t even look at the Passat, it seemed unsightly, I was looking for an Audi 80 station wagon, but somehow there were few of them on sale. Then a friend offered to see the VW Passat station wagon. I looked, like nothing. Sat down, drove, liked it. Although they say that they are rattles, I did not hear anything like that in the cabin. Decided to take and did not lose.

Strengths:

  • Spacious
  • Reliable
  • Simple

Weak sides:

  • 5th door is dirty

Review of Volkswagen Passat Variant 1.9 TDI (Volkswagen Passat) 1994

Good day to all car owners, motorists and sympathizers! Cars, tractors and other “self-propelled carriages” have always interested me and from time to time I read your reviews, sometimes I insert comments, it is interesting. The time has come to contribute something to the common cause of the FORUM.

I want to bring to you the experience of owning a turbodiesel Passat B4 (engine 1Z), which was purchased back in 1997. Before that, I drove the M-2141-412 for four years. For a long time suffered the throes of choosing a car. As a result, 3 boxes of special literature were accumulated (there was no Internet yet), from which 4 contenders emerged: Toyota Carina, Mazda 626, Daewoo Espero (new) and the Passat itself. I visited car markets for a long time (I almost got robbed), but one day I saw HIM - a black "chameleon", station wagon, roof rails, original wheels, tires, ABC, velor, air conditioning, mileage 74 t.km, B4 body, 3-year-old - in short , "profuse salivation" and a veil before the eyes. The next day, I became the proud owner of a "dream" for one plastic bag of hundred rubles (90 thousand rubles).

A week later, after a more thorough examination, I discovered significant wear on the clutch pedal lining, the V-ribbed belt was all cracked, rattling tension rollers - in short, according to indirect evidence, 100-200 thousand were twisted, because I personally have already traveled more than 200,000 km, and the belt and the pedal didn't work. After the purchase went to the brand SRT BB. I changed belts and at the same time a suspicious CV joint case. After 10 days, I looked under the car and found the cover hanging on the axle shaft, and how much ambition there was - to the repair zone "nezya", there "Nezya", here "Nezya", and in fact the garage bitter drunk turned out to be much more decent, cheaper and better, in which I later had to change this CV joint and which, together with the cover, is still standing, i.e. 11 years. Since then, I have a phobia of disgust for the so-called "officials".

Strengths:

  • Appearance
  • Comfortable practical and durable interior
  • Availability and low cost of maintenance and repair
  • Durable paint finish
  • High corrosion resistance

Weak sides:

  • Initially low ground clearance, but easily corrected
  • In the "official" service can cripple

Review of Volkswagen Passat Variant 1.8 (Volkswagen Passat) 1995

After reading the reviews on this site, I decided to write about my car. Owned many cars in its history from basins and other foreign cars. In 2004, having sold another car, he started looking for the next device. On the advice of competent people, he turned his gaze to the Volkswagen Passat and was not mistaken by purchasing a 1995 car. release in a simple configuration and with some shortcomings, which were eliminated later.

The car is very repairable, many parts change in parts (for example, the ball joint separately, and not entirely with the lever), who even came up with the idea of changing the lever assembly ... nonsense ... During the period of operation, I changed the radiator, radiator fan, coil and ball and steering gears traction. One of the important factors is that this car has everything at once, and spare parts are cheap, some cost like a Zhiguli. I think that the car is reliable and predictable, never let me down on the road, never came home on a rope. The capacity is very good, everything is convenient, there are side hidden niches where you can put a first aid kit, a cable and an emergency stop sign.

Departure on this machine 4.5 years. I decided to change this car to a more recent device and bought a 2003 Ford Mondeo. diesel station wagon... What can be said in comparison... Ford, produced in the 21st century, loses to Volkswagen... especially in soundproofing, just awful!!! I was shocked. I thought about the tires, changed them to others - nothing has changed ... I even began to regret that I had changed Folsik to Ford, thoughts began to creep in to change to Fols B5. Although the suspension is rather weak there, the sound insulation is at the level and the quality is higher.

Strengths:

  • maintainability
  • Cheap spare parts
  • Roomy interior
  • Manageability at height

Weak sides:

  • Only the headlights are rather weak, and everything is very high even for a car of 95

Review of Volkswagen Passat 1.9 TD (Volkswagen Passat) 1995

My first car was a 1985 Audi 100, also a diesel, not a bad car, but I wanted something newer. I was looking for a sedan or hatchback, a station wagon not to my taste, I chose from Renault Laguna, Audi and vw Golf. But the choice fell on the Passat 1.9 td. Imported from Belgium.

In winter, in any frost, the plant has never failed. I don't know how it is in Russia, but in Latvia DD is at the highest level. Fuel consumption in the city in the summer is 6-6.5, and in the winter 7-7.5, on the highway you can invest in 5 liters if the speed is 90 km / h.

Strengths:

  • Good family car

Weak sides:

  • As I think, one drawback on the Passat is the doors.

Review of Volkswagen Passat 2.0 (Volkswagen Passat) 1995

There is an opinion that the Passat b3 / b4 (in my case it is b4) is a very cheap, reliable, unpretentious, comfortable "people's car". Here I want to deal with these dogmas on my own example. Everything in order:

Cheap car maintenance:

It is difficult to say unequivocally whether a car is cheap to operate, this is an exclusively subjective matter, because. depends on your personal willingness to spend money on your iron horse, and on which car you drove before. Naturally, reseeding from a Zhiguli to a foreign car, the prices for spare parts are unlikely to pleasantly surprise you. However, with regard to Passat "a, it must be said unequivocally, yes - this car is not expensive to maintain. But rumors about the "free" of this car are extremely exaggerated. Like any car that is constantly in use, especially being far from new, the machine breaks: suspension, running gear, engine elements and attachments. And the prices for spare parts vary. Here you need to make a choice for yourself which spare parts to install. In general, all spare parts on the Passat can be divided into three groups: 1 - original (the most expensive, they are produced directly by the VAG concern); 2 - high-quality analogues (such as Lemferder, etc. - not much cheaper than the original), 3 - fig analogues (Feby, Hans Pries and others). It is here that the high cost or cheapness depends on your choice service and thus reliability.

Strengths:

  • Passat b3/b4 (in my case it's b4) not expensive, reliable, unpretentious, comfortable "people's car"
  • Sufficiently safe car for 1995 onwards: standard 2 airbags, ABS
  • An acquaintance in such a car made three turns through the roof and stopped on a pole: he was fastened, the airbags worked, the guy remained intact, only turned a little gray and stuffed a bump. For me personally, this case has become one of the fundamental when choosing a car.
  • Fully galvanized body, if not subjected to handicraft repairs, excellent resistance to corrosion

Weak sides:

  • Noise isolation suffers, but is it a problem for a 1995 car?
  • In general, the only and really very serious drawback of this car is that it was finished in 1996. And, unfortunately, time constantly reduces the number of copies of this machine in really good condition.

Review Volkswagen 1.6 (101 hp) 5mkpp (Volkswagen Passat) 1996

Good day!

I want to describe my car WV Passat variant 1.6 1996 onwards. It was purchased in June '08. In disrepair, at that time I didn’t know what exactly I wanted, I read a lot of reviews about different cars, I wanted some kind of German, I looked at Audi, I liked the model 80 b4 94, but apparently not fate ... then I found it with damage to the back, quickly agreed on the price and I became the proud owner of this car. Then came my long-awaited vacation and I began to prepare the car for a trip to the south.

Driven to the diagnosis, the result: the replacement of the left front ball, wheel bearing, right steering tip and all razhldniki.

Strengths:

  • Strong body
  • Huge interior, roomy trunk
  • Not a high price for spare parts
  • unpretentious

Weak sides:

  • Noise isolation
  • Gasoline consumption
  • dipped beam

Review of Volkswagen Passat 2.0 (Volkswagen Passat) 1996

The car is great, they took it from the salon, but started driving five years later. Prior to that, the father ran into the unfortunate 10,000 to the country and back. For all the time I changed the speedometer, completely covered it, put a new one, so now they don’t believe that the mileage is small, the problem with the doors affected, the front window lifters were covered, and you need to order new ones, put the used one on disassembly, so it broke again, the heavy battery somehow sat down - they pushed in three, the khan is hard - accordingly, horses - 115 are not enough, the set of speed is rather weak, and if you score 100, then it holds perfectly. These are the cons.

Dofik pluses and more - a universal car like for a city - nimble, consumption at the level, clearance climbs on any curb, inside the place it hurts to carry 5 healthy men in the back seat normally, a roomy trunk for fishing everything I need to lay down.

If you take the countryside, then I drove through such a swamp on the 1st, it steers perfectly if the tires are normal, in the sand the Nissan Tiana sat on the belly, and I taxied. If it is serviced at a non-firm, then it’s cheap, but at the Volz service station, it’s clear that it’s a little expensive.

Strengths:

  • Good

Weak sides:

  • A little

Review of Volkswagen Passat 1.8 (Volkswagen Passat) 1995

Good day to all!

I want to tell you about my car — VW Passat, 1995 onwards, 1.8l, ADZ engine, gearbox — 5 fur. I bought a car at the age of 12. Having 6500 USD in my pocket, the choice was mainly between the Passat and Karina E. I liked the Passat at first sight, and Karin was not in good condition, so the choice was obvious. Outwardly very pretty, were titans R15, tinted. The interior is very spacious compared to the previous car (VAZ-21083). Volkswagen Passat Variant 1.8 review (Volkswagen Passat) 1995

The car was bought after using a number of cars of the domestic auto industry. Was chosen as an everyday car for trips around the city to work, and as a family car for weekend trips outside the hero city of Moscow. Since I myself am of rather big height and volume, plus the trips were carried out with a stroller and a child car seat, the choice settled on the VW Passat B4 - a spacious and roomy station wagon.

In principle, I was satisfied with my choice, because this car has almost everything - a large interior, rear seats fold down, a large trunk, power steering, automatic transmission, air conditioning, heating pads, etc. All this was a joy to drive, especially in traffic jams, and in comparison with TAZ products. The car performs well in the city and on the highway. Of course, 90 horsepower is clearly not enough for the machine and its weight, in the city it is quite enough, if your main goal is not to race at traffic lights, on the highway normal acceleration to 110 km / h, confidently keeps the road at a speed of 140-150 km / h, didn't try again.

Thanks to all the writers - I myself realized how hard it is to sit down and write something intelligible and useful. And all the reviews are useful - no manager in the salon will tell you the whole truth, but we buy a car (with rare exceptions) with our hard-earned money. And the class of the car has nothing to do with it - in my opinion, people who change cars after filling the ashtray do not leave reviews here.

And now directly about the hero of the story - Volkswagen Passat B4 Variant (station wagon), year of manufacture - 1995. Engine 2E (8-valve, 115 hp). Box - 5-speed mechanics; ABS. Of the additional options: electric sunroof, etc. "winter package" - heated front seats and heated windshield washer nozzles.
The car was imported into Ukraine with a 3-year-old and 68 thousand km on the odometer. It looks like the truth - because. borrowed an office car from German partners.

Now 224 thousand km. Separately, I want to note that I quote the mileage data just for completeness of the review, because when buying such cars (over 5 years old), it makes no sense to pay attention to the odometer numbers - 100% everything will be twisted, so it’s better to just check the car with a forensic specialist and an intelligent mechanic. Example: my car is mainly used in the city, i.e. the clutch works often, but the clutch pedal is a little worn; there is a similar car in the market with a PRACTICALLY ERASED clutch pedal, but the mileage is 146 thousand km ... (but in general, all the main “pitfalls” of buying a car have long been detailed on the NETWORK, but nevertheless there are always people who believe that they smarter than the "hucksters" in the market).

At first glance, I really liked the Passat, with the exception of the interior trim (velor could be of better quality - it wears off quickly). Pretty frisky AGG engine and, importantly, economical (10 liters in the city, 6-8 on the highway), just right for such a car. In winter at -25 it starts up perfectly. Oil consumption - 1 liter per 8000 km.

On the track Passat keeps confidently. However, in sharp turns, the body gives a noticeable roll - I think the increased ground clearance affects. But who said that the Passat is a driver's car. Rather, it is more suitable for a measured, calm ride (appearance obliges).

Strengths:

  • High ground clearance
  • Low cost of spare parts
  • Very spacious interior
  • Ease of maintenance
  • High-torque and economical motor
  • Solid appearance
  • Good motor soundproofing

Weak sides:

  • Fuzzy gear shifting
  • Creaking plastic on bumps
  • Poor interior ventilation (windows fogging up in wet weather)
  • Poor sound insulation of wheel arches

Sales market: Russia.

The fourth generation of the Volkswagen Passat sedan received an internal index B4. This model cannot be called absolutely new, since it is based on the previous, third generation (B3). Most of the external elements of the body of the sedan have been replaced, with the exception of the roof and glazing, the surfaces of the wings and doors have become smooth: the longitudinal recess along the sides has disappeared. Together with the completely updated lighting equipment, the main detail of the exterior was the radiator grille, which took its rightful place, immediately giving the car a more conservative look. With the redesign (including the interior), the car received a host of innovations, such as the advent of direct injection technology in diesel engines or new safety standards. The Volkswagen Passat B4 sedan offers a very wide range of petrol and diesel engines, some upgraded or new. Their power ranges from 75 to 174 hp, where the flagship position is still occupied by 2.8 VR6.

The interior of the Volkswagen Passat B4 has been thoroughly retouched and smoothed. The architecture of the controls has changed, but the shape of the air ducts has been preserved, a new steering wheel has been installed, the seats have received new upholstery materials. The basic version of the CL can be said to be almost empty: body-color side mirrors, adjustable power steering column, audio preparation with two speakers, central locking, one-piece rear seat back. The car could be equipped with various options, but the upholstery here is simple, fabric. In the more expensive version of the GL, a velor interior, leather steering wheel trim, and a leather interior were already available for a surcharge. For the GT sports package, VAG Sport seats with lateral support were offered. Accordingly, buyers of more expensive versions of the sedan could count on the most complete list of equipment, including alloy wheels, climate control, full power accessories and remote door opening, power front seats, a 6-speaker audio system with a CD changer, an on-board computer and more.

All Volkswagen Passat B4 gasoline engines have switched to injection technology. At first, 8-valve (SOHC) 1.8-liter engines with single-point injection (75 and 90 hp) were considered basic, but later a new 1.6-liter 100-horsepower unit with multi-point fuel injection appeared in the lineup. The top position among the gasoline "fours" is occupied by a 2.0-liter DOHC engine in the 2.0 GT 16V modification, whose power reaches 150 hp, but there are also more modest 8-valve engines of the same volume with a return of 115 hp. The most powerful of the sedan's gasoline engines is the 2.8 VR6 engine (SOHC 12V type, with multi-point fuel supply), its 174 “power” of power and 235 Nm of torque allow the sedan to accelerate from standstill to 100 km / h in 8.7 seconds. and up to a maximum speed of 224 km/h (in combination with 5MT). Gasoline modifications consume an average of 7.7-10 l / 100 km. The range of diesel engines is represented by three options for a 1.9-liter engine - their power is 75 (TD) and 90/110 hp. (TDI). They do not shine with dynamic performance, but consume only 5.1-6.4 liters of fuel per 100 km, and the new TDI engines are the most economical.

The Volkswagen Passat B4 sedan has the same suspension scheme as the B3: an independent McPherson type in front, a semi-independent design with a V-shaped beam and partially connected levers at the rear, or independent with inclined levers for all-wheel drive vehicles. An exclusive option on the expensive versions was a self-levelling pneumatic rear suspension, where pneumatic shock absorbers were installed instead of traditional hydraulic shock absorbers. The steering mechanism is with hydraulic booster. Front brakes - disc, rear drum or disc on powerful modifications. By changing the external elements of the body, the length of the sedan increased from 4575 to 4605 mm, the width is 1720 mm (instead of the previous 1705 mm), the height remained unchanged - 1430 mm. The wheelbase of the machine is 2625 mm. Turning diameter - 10.7 m (for VR6 - 11.2 m). The ride height is 109-117 mm when fully loaded. The maximum load capacity is about 460-530 kg. The luggage compartment has a volume of 495 liters, and its length is 1.12 m. Folding rear seat backs allow you to increase the usable volume to 820 liters. Convenient low loading height - 47 cm.

The safety of the Volkswagen Passat B4 has been improved over the B3 generation by adopting dual airbags (driver and front passenger) in combination with pyrotechnic belt tensioners as standard equipment on all versions. Passat is equipped with ABS system, amplifiers in the doors to protect against side impact. The vehicle may be equipped with an electronic differential lock (EDS). In addition, this generation of the model introduced a security system for door locks, and since 1995, an immobilizer.

Volkswagen Passat B4, as a restyled version of the Passat B3, is better than its predecessor in many ways. But taking into account the general design base, the problem in choosing (B3 or B4) when buying a used car will most likely be decided by the technical condition of a particular instance and the necessary amount for further investments. The probable problems for both generations are the same. As with all older models, it's getting harder to get hold of some slow-moving (rare) parts, many of which are only available at salvage yards. The body was originally well protected from corrosion (partially galvanized), but age takes its toll. The all-new Passat B5 was introduced in 1996 - this model is again unified with the Audi family, as was the case in the first two generations of the Passat.

Volkswagen Passat b4 was released in 1993 and replaced the Passat b3. The new car was practically no different from its predecessor in technical terms, but some design changes were made. The solid grille has been replaced with a classic one to match the styling of other Golf Mk3 and Jetta cars of the same generation. In addition, new bumpers and headlights were installed on the car.

The interior of the car has also undergone some changes. The Passat B4 included dual front airbags., as well as seat belts with pretensioners. The design of the dashboard remained unchanged. Just like in the previous generation car the engine in b4 was placed transversely.

Salon

The interior of the Passat The fourth generation has a minimum of differences from the interior of the B3: the only others here are door handles and trim and a lighting control panel. Otherwise, the architecture and interior design of the cars are similar: a simple instrument panel, a massive center console, thoughtful ergonomics.

A feature of the Volkswagen Passat B4 is a large supply of interior space in both rows of seats, comfortable front seats and a flat rear sofa, suitable for three people. The trunk of the car is large: 580 liters for a sedan with the possibility of increasing to 870 liters, for a station wagon, the indicator is more modest - 495 liters (maximum 1500 liters). Specifications. The 4th generation Passat was originally equipped with the same engines as its predecessor. The gasoline part was made up of engines with a volume of 1.6 to 2.8 liters, delivering from 72 to 174 horsepower and from 125 to 240 Nm of torque.

The diesel side was formed by units with a volume of 1.6 to 1.9 liters, the return of which ranged from 68 to 80 "horses" and from 127 to 155 Nm of thrust. In 1994, the power range changed somewhat: gasoline engines of 1.8-2.9 liters appeared, producing from 90 to 190 “mares”, as well as a 110-powerful 1.9-liter turbodiesel. Units were combined with "mechanics" in five steps or a 4-band automatic transmission, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. In technical terms, the VW Passat B4 had no differences from the “be-third”: independent front and semi-independent rear suspension, power steering, front disc brakes and rear drum brakes (on advanced versions - fully disc).

Volkswagen Passat B4 engines, their advantages and disadvantages

The German automobile concern has been producing the Passat line since 1988. But if we are talking about the B4 model, then you should understand that it rolled off the assembly line from 1994 to 1996 inclusive. This model has spread widely in Russia, especially in the used car market. The phenomenon is due to several reasons:

  1. The perfect combination of modern look and reliability.
  2. The model has a traditional set of advantages of the Passat line.
  3. This is a reliable and well-knit German station wagon with a range of quality engines.
  4. Large interior and trunk space.
  5. Relatively inexpensive repair.

All these advantages confirm once again that the car is one of the best among the representatives of the "family" class .

The attraction of the history of the Volkswagen B4 was the controversial design of the “front end”, changed to the usual one, with a radiator grille. This design was used once in a wide generation of concern machines. The list of additions has been somewhat expanded. In produced variations, 2 frontal airbags and seat belt pretensioners and an ABS system were mounted.
