Perhaps the noise is due to the rough tuning of the chassis, but nevertheless the suspension is very reliable. Noise and vibration fade into the background when the car moves off the asphalt and hits rough terrain, coping well with rough ruts and overcoming massive snowdrifts - in this the ASX crossover has few competitors. His older brother, the big Mitsubishi Outlander, “borrowed” about 70% of parts, systems and components to the new ASX. For example, the suspension mentioned above, an independent multi-link, has been tested on the Outlander for more than one year. All-wheel drive control is also the same for both models, the system of which is still simpler for a beginner, and besides, there is no eco-mode.

Useful ASX Options

The ASX has a very useful quality for the Russian weather - it is a warm car and it warms up very quickly in the cold. The heated windshield defrosts it in a few seconds, and if you also turn on the powerful heated seats, then in just a few minutes you will want to turn it off.

As an option, you can order a panoramic roof, which instantly refreshes the interior of the car and fills it with daylight. Within a few seconds, with the help of an electric drive, the panorama blind moves back and light enters the cabin. The panorama glass is lightly tinted and has UV protection.

The built-in multimedia complex is equipped with USB, AUX inputs and an SD slot for a memory card, it perfectly synchronizes with a mobile phone, however, due to not entirely correct Russification in places, certain difficulties arise in handling the multimedia system. Another drawback is that the on-board computer data can only be switched using a special button that is hidden to the left of the steering wheel. Why it could not fit on the steering wheel itself is not very clear. While driving, it is simply inconvenient to use a separate key - you start to be distracted from the road.

Otherwise, there are no complaints. Qualitatively assembled interior, front seats are pleasing both in size and lateral support. It is not difficult for the driver to find the position he needs for himself.

Behind, unfortunately, only two passengers can easily accommodate, but the class of compact crossovers does not provide for another.

The trunk is designed for 384 liters, but parts of the back of the sofa can be folded, then the volume will increase to 1219 liters. Under the raised floor is a spare tire.

The Russians were offered a choice of two engines - a 1.6-liter capacity of 117 hp. (154 Nm of torque) and a 150-horsepower 2-liter unit (197 Nm of torque).

The first is installed in front-wheel drive versions and works with a 5-speed manual gearbox, the second - with a variator - in cars with all-wheel drive.

We had a car with the most powerful engine and in the top configuration. According to the ASX passport with a two-liter engine, it accelerates to “hundreds” in a nondescript 11.7 seconds. But in reality, the crossover turned out to be very nimble, dynamic, and perfectly manageable. To be honest, I didn't even expect it. The car takes off from a traffic light, and a powerful increase in traction can be felt already at 2000 rpm.

In the city, ASX allows you to quickly change lanes, instantly respond to a changing situation in the stream. And the combination of a 150-horsepower engine and a continuously variable gearbox turned out to be very good. No twitching or twitching.

Some journalists complained that Mitsubishi was not fully able to deal with soundproofing. But I didn't think so. When accelerating, the engine does not growl, and in the cabin at high speed it is relatively quiet. One can only complain about the studded tires, which still reminds of itself after 120 km / h.

Four-wheel drive is activated using the large 4WD button - with its help, on a slippery road, the car's behavior becomes more stable. But there is a minus - the consumption increases by several liters. And he's not even the smallest. During the test, on average, when driving on the front-wheel drive, the ASX "ate" 13 liters per "hundred" - this figure exceeds the one indicated by the manufacturer. Well, at least the Japanese engine is unpretentious - AI-92 can be filled in without fear.

What is the result

It is always difficult to return, but with a car that has not been updated so much, it is doubly so. During the time that ASX was not in Russia, a lot has changed.

For example, Hyundai Creta took the lead in the SUV segment. Last year, sales of this model increased by 2.5 times and amounted to 55,305 vehicles. And there is also Renault Duster, Renault Captur. In general, there is very tough competition among crossovers - there are a lot of offers. How can the smallest Mitsubishi in the Russian market attract the attention of buyers?

Most importantly, driving a Japanese crossover is pleasant and comfortable to move around. His excitement is easily transferred to the driver, and the route home-work-home does not seem so boring. The ASX is a balanced car and the flaws it has don't seem fatal.

Another thing is that the price will not please everyone. The car is sold with us from 1,099,000 rubles, and the test version costs 1,479,990 rubles.

For 1,169,900 rubles, you can take a Hyundai Creta with a 1.6-liter engine (123 hp), an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive in a rich Travel package. And the Korean, by the way, will already have a heated steering wheel and a modern multimedia system.

Another thing is that Creta is assembled in Russia, while ASX is brought to our country from Japan. This fact and the fact that Mitsubishi is associated with reliability can be decisive for some.

The Mitsubishi ACX model, which appeared on the global and domestic markets in 2017, has already become the second restyling of the first generation of this crossover. The restyled version features improved interior soundproofing and some exterior elements. There are practically no changes in the technical parameters of the Mitsubishi ASX, the test drive of which was carried out in order to get an idea of ​​​​its capabilities.

The appearance of the car has not changed much, and in appearance the crossover is easy to recognize both by its compact size and by the characteristic outlines of the body. Due to its dimensions, close to such a car as the ASX, it parks freely and maneuvers where almost any other SUV can hardly fit and unfold. At the same time, the model also received good off-road qualities, so it can also be used for country trips.


Among the differences between the crossover and the previous restyling, it is worth noting the changed appearance of the radiator grille, improved optics and the presence of chrome inserts on the body. Turn signals appeared in the exterior mirrors - a convenient option characteristic of the latest generations of middle-class crossovers. At the same time, the developers did not provide LED lights for all trim levels of the model - however, HID discharge lamps also do a good job of lighting the road. The image of the car is perfectly complemented by 16- or 17-inch wheels, freely placed under the plastic wheel arches - if desired, wheels with a radius of 18 inches can also be installed here.

According to the results of the Mitsubishi ACX test drive, it can be understood that the compact dimensions of the car, convenient for urban conditions, lead to the fact that the size of the luggage compartment does not quite meet the requirements of many car owners. However, you can increase the trunk - but for this you have to fold the backs of the second row. At the same time, there is more or less enough space for passengers and the driver. At least three people of average height and build are normally accommodated in the rear seats. And driver comfort is further enhanced by the high steering wheel position.


The interior of the crossover as a whole makes a good impression. Attention is drawn to such details as the improved quality of materials (although they still look cheaper than we would like) and improved ergonomics of the space. Armchairs are equipped with a heating system. And the engine can be started with the push of a button.

The crossover is equipped with an improved multimedia system with a 7-inch display (available for top versions) and a floor console, the shape of which has become more modern. At the same time, you will have to control the display using a button on the dashboard, and the wireless communication system that provides synchronization with the phone does not always work correctly. But the car received as many as 4 cup holders and a good rear view camera. And the basic versions, which do not have a multimedia system (which significantly increases the cost of a car), have a radio and a CD player.

For the domestic market, the model is equipped with two power units:

  • 1.6-liter engine with a capacity of 117 liters. With.;

The smaller engine is equipped with front-wheel drive and a manual transmission. A more productive version is paired with a continuously variable variator and all-wheel drive. The disadvantage of the second power unit can be called high fuel consumption - especially since it is slightly higher than the value declared by the manufacturer. The Mitsubishi ASX crossover of the new model year differs from the previous version in a modernized supporting structure, thanks to which it received increased strength. To achieve this advantage, the developers were helped by the use of Mitsubishi's proprietary technology - RICE. It allows the vehicle body to absorb some of the impact, protecting the driver and passengers during an accident. And now the level of car safety has increased markedly compared to previous versions.

During the test drive, drivers noted good handling and good directional stability of the crossover. Although the acceleration of models with a CVT disappointed - a continuously variable transmission is only suitable for urban conditions and low speeds. You can improve the situation by switching to manual control using the steering wheel paddles. Modifications with a 1.6-liter engine and manual transmission are a little easier and more convenient to drive - especially for drivers accustomed to "mechanics".

Prices and competitors

The basic version of the car, the cost of which starts at 1.1 million rubles, is equipped with only 2 pillows, conventional air conditioning, audio preparation (without the audio system itself) and electric mirrors. Choosing the Invite option, you can also get heated front seats, curtains for the luggage compartment and a CD player. The Intense version features a leather-trimmed steering wheel and roof rails. The most expensive modification received discs with a radius of 17 inches and automation that makes it easier to move up the slope.

The main competitors of the crossover include three models from the same price category and with similar characteristics - Toyota C-HR, VW Tiguan and Hyundai Tucson. In terms of the ratio of price to the number of options in the basic version, ASX is the best of them. With other parameters, everything is a little more complicated. For example, in terms of efficiency, Volkswagen and Toyota win, and in terms of dynamics, almost all models have advantages over Mitsubishi.

Test drive results

The test drive of the crossover revealed a number of features of the car. The participants of the audits attributed the following characteristics to the advantages of buying ASX:

  • good handling for a crossover;
  • good visibility from the driver's seat;
  • a plug-in all-wheel drive system for the version with a 2-liter engine, and high ground clearance, thanks to which the car received good off-road and country terrain;
  • decent speed for a car in this price range.

Among the minuses, they note the absence of diesel units in Russian trim levels - although diesel fuel versions available for the Japanese market would be more economical. Not all drivers liked the lack of an all-wheel drive transmission for modifications with a 1.6-liter engine. Were noticed by drivers and slightly outdated interior trim, and the lack of a touch screen.
