On August 15, 2011, the production of the new Kia Rio 3 sedan created for the Russian market started at the Russian Hyundai plant near St. Petersburg. Orders for the novelty will start in early September, and deliveries will begin in October.
In general, the European Kia Rio new hatchback was first shown at the spring auto show in Geneva, and in April, at the motor show in New York, Rio was presented to the public in a four-door version.

Around the same time, at the Shanghai Motor Show, a South Korean company demonstrated a sedan, which formed the basis of the new Kia Rio for the Russian market. The car is distinguished from the European version by a larger grille, other head optics and taillights, as well as modified bumpers.
The new Kia Rio (2012-2013) for our market is built on the basis of a sedan, cars are assembled at the same enterprise, have common overall dimensions, and are also equipped with identical engines and gearboxes.
This means that the Kia Rio sedan in the new body has a length of 4,370 mm, a width of 1,700, and a height of 1,470. The wheelbase of the novelty is 2,570, the ground clearance is 160 mm, and the trunk volume is 500 liters, which is 46 liters more than Solaris.
As power units for the new Kia Rio 3 sedan, two gasoline engines are offered - a 1.4-liter capacity of 107 hp. (135 Nm at 5,000 rpm) and a volume of 1.6 liters, producing 123 hp. and a torque of 155 Nm at 4,200 rpm.
Both can be aggregated either paired with a four-speed automatic or paired with a six-speed mechanics. Acceleration from standstill to hundreds on the mechanics takes 11.5 seconds (with a 107-horsepower engine) and 10.3 seconds - with a 123-horsepower unit with a volume of 1.6. On the machine - 13.5 and 11.2 seconds, respectively.
The company paid special attention to adapting the new Kia Rio (2012-2013) to Russian operating conditions. The car was equipped with an increased capacity battery, a more powerful generator, heated side mirrors and a windshield in the wiper rest area.
The body, and especially the bottom, received additional protection that resists moisture, temperature extremes and aggressive anti-icing agents. The washer fluid reservoir was increased to four liters, and a low washer indicator appeared on the dashboard.
During the winter tests of the new Kia Rio 3, it was possible to achieve a stable start of the car engine at temperatures down to -35 degrees, and in the cabin, the driver and passengers should not be allowed to freeze the increased power of the heater radiator and air ducts, which were carried out to the feet of the rear passengers.
The sedan is available to Russian buyers in one of four trim levels: Comfort, Luxe, Prestige and Premium, the latter with only a 1.6-liter engine and automatic transmission.
In early September, orders for the new product began to be accepted, and prices for the KIA Rio new for the Russian market were also announced. The first commercial vehicles reached dealers in October. True, contrary to expectations, the car did not turn out to be budgetary at all.
The basic version of Comfort has richer equipment than the initial version of the Hyundai Solaris. The cost of the new Kia Rio 3 with a 1.4-liter engine and mechanics in the initial configuration was 514,900 rubles.
The equipment of such a sedan immediately includes front airbags, ABS, rear disc brakes, daytime running lights, air conditioning, as well as a rear seat backrest folded in parts and body-colored mirrors and handles.
Prices for Kia New Rio 3 in the Luxe configuration started at 640,900 rubles. This version additionally has fog lights, a standard audio system, power windows for the rear doors and heated front seats.
The cost of the Kia Rio sedan in the Prestige version was 674,900 rubles. For this money, buyers receive a car equipped with side airbags and curtain airbags, climate control, a Supervision instrument panel, and alloy wheels.
Finally, the most expensive version in the top-end Premium package, available exclusively with a 1.6-liter engine and automatic transmission, was estimated at 754,900 rubles. There is a stabilization system, a rear parttronic, a keyless entry system and a Bluetooth interface.
Unlike the updated one, which received a redesigned exterior, the restyled Kia Rio sedan and hatchback, which share the chassis, as well as engines and transmissions with Solaris, remained outwardly unchanged.
The engines remained the same - these are, recall, petrol engines with a volume of 1.4 (107 hp) and 1.6 (123 hp) liters, but the latter is now combined in tandem with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission instead the old manual five-speed and four-speed automatic transmission, which are still offered for the younger engine.
It is noteworthy that the body type does not affect the cost of the car - a sedan and a hatchback cost exactly the same on the Russian market. Compared to the pre-styling version, the updated Kia Rio has risen in price - the price range for it ranged from 514,900 to 754,900 rubles. We also note that for the model of the next model year, two new body color options have become available: “Dazzling Blue” and “Coffee Brown”.
