Where to ride a bike. Where you can ride a bike in the city Lighting devices for bicycles

The active cycling season begins. Yesterday there were so many cyclists of all ages that St. Petersburg briefly turned into Copenhagen. The main difference in our cycling culture is that most people go out on their bikes to “ride”. Meanwhile, a bicycle can be used as a means of transport.

Even though we have virtually no bike paths and the environment is not conducive, if you approach the matter wisely, you will become a happy cyclist. For those ready to get on two wheels, these nine tips:

1. Become a driver. Paradoxical as it may seem. If you are not a driver yet, graduate from a driving school and get your license. Being able to feel in the driver's shoes is the most valuable advantage of a cyclist. I understand that this will require a lot of time and money. But a pedestrian has no other way to learn traffic rules and understand how drivers act in traffic. Surprisingly, if you don’t do anything stupid on the road, indicate turns with your hand, or run red lights, drivers also feel that you are “one of the pack” and treat you with respect.

2. Choose the right bike. Your goal is not to take walks in the countryside or exercise at the skate park, you will practice everyday driving around the city. Therefore, don't buy a mountain bike with a thick tread, much less an exotic bike with a spring in the frame or small wheels. Buy a so-called “city bike” for everyday riding. The design will protect from dirt, large-diameter wheels on thin asphalt tires in combination with 24 gears will provide the necessary speed with less energy consumption.

3. Security. A bicycle needs lighting, even during the day! The front light is white, the rear light is red. Many people neglect the front, and in vain. Drivers see this light in their rearview mirrors. And for pedestrians this is a signal from afar: “Fear me!” On the road, use all your senses. Never listen to headphones, wear glasses that are too dark, or wear clothes that prevent you from turning your head. Like motorists, develop your peripheral vision. The “occipital” will also be useful. Special clothing is not required, just take into account the weather context. Helmet, gloves. At night - a reflective vest.

4. Maintain the bicycle in good technical condition. The consumables here, compared to a car, are cheap - brake pads, wheel tubes, batteries in light bulbs. The chain should be lubricated regularly. You don't have to do everything yourself. Bicycle repair shops will provide you with maintenance for little money. Do it at least once a year.

5. Drive on the roadway. At first it may seem scary, but if you are a driver (see point 1) there is nothing to be afraid of. Imagine that you are a car, only slow and small. Motorists have long been accustomed to the fact that someone is riding a bicycle on the right. The truth is that most drivers are afraid of hitting you. Use it. Keep a distance of half a meter from parked cars if possible. There is always a chance that the door will open or the car will start moving. Suspicious cars - those with lights on or wheels turned in your direction. Here again, point 1 will help. If you are a cyclist-driver, by the appearance of the car you can easily understand whether it is standing or can make a maneuver. Sidewalks tend to be narrow and full of obstacles and pedestrians. But where there is too much traffic and the sidewalk is flat and wide, it is better to climb onto the sidewalk.

6. Parking. Bicycles are stolen, even with locks, it's true. I don’t know of a single case where the police not only returned a bicycle to the owner, but even simply bothered to search. The solution is not to use a too expensive bicycle (more than 20 thousand rubles) for everyday trips. Various enterprises and institutions, as a rule, allow you to enter the lobby with your bicycle, where it is safer to leave it locked. Don't be afraid to ask for it politely. You can park in street cafes without any problems. If you get rejected, consider whether you should go to that store if they don't value you as a customer.

7. Storage. Another cause of concern for many. Europeans store bikes in closed courtyards or in basements specially designed for this purpose. If you have an advanced home and a normal HOA, you may be able to negotiate storage in the basement or a shed in the yard. Otherwise, a Soviet person can only be content with an apartment. Explore the offer of special fastenings. The bike can be stolen from the stairs.

8. Routes. It is not a fact that the route you are used to driving by car will be successful for a bike. A bicycle is superior to a car in terms of flexibility. You don't have to follow all the "car" rules, but here are the ones that are important: don't drive against traffic, don't turn from the left lanes with cars. It is strictly forbidden to drive on highways. Bridges and overpasses are sometimes safer to cross on sidewalks. The bus is your friend. Use bus lanes. If there is a bike path, don't skimp on it. If you can go around Nevsky Prospekt on a quieter street, do it.

9. Weigh the benefits. You don’t have to become a “cycling freak” who will ride a bike in any weather, even when it entails unnecessary expenditure of time and effort. There are plenty of situations when it is faster to get there by metro or by car. You're having a business dinner on the other side of town, and there's wet snow outside - of course, a bike won't fit here. Over time, you will develop established “biking habits” - to the bakery, to the university, to friends who live far from the metro. For example, I go to a television studio, from the Petrograd side to Vasilievsky.

The main thing is to remember: the more people use bicycles as a means of transport, the sooner bicycle parking and dedicated lanes for cyclists will appear. If ten years ago a cyclist in traffic was exotic, today it is almost mainstream. Join in!

Recently, cycling has become widespread among young people, so buying a bicycle in Moscow with the required configuration will not be difficult. And today you can find many places for cycling throughout Moscow.

Parks for cycling

Now in the capital there are 5 parks that are equipped with everything necessary for cycling. In each of them you can meet professionals and beginners. The parks have special paths for recreational skiing, as well as areas with jumps and slopes. I would like to dwell on each of them in more detail.

The vast territory of Bitsevsky Park attracts all cycling enthusiasts. Smooth asphalt paths are ideal for relaxing riding, and are also suitable for those who are just learning to ride a bike. The ravines and Bald Mountain are equipped for those who are keen on extreme riding: jumps, steep descents, dirt and a spalom track perfectly increase the level of adrenaline in the blood of those who come here to ride.

Among cyclists, Filevsky Park is famous for its longest slopes and the presence of high-speed routes. Moreover, here you can attend freeride competitions. All fans of this kind of skating meet here. You will enjoy relaxing in this park with your family and children; it is well equipped: it has a playground, a cafe and a beach.

Izmailovsky Park is a universal place for cycling. The area is great for recreational skiing. A bicycle ride through Izmailovsky Park will bring a lot of pleasure. A constant spectacle here is the jumping of extreme sports enthusiasts over a specially equipped wooden springboard.

You can meet extreme riders and learn their skills in the Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo park. A huge track with steep jumps, dirt tracks and drops is the best place for extreme skiing. If you live near Infantry Street, you can come here just for a ride, enjoying the scenery around.

Gorky Park is a very famous place among those who often rent a bike. They offer bicycles for both men and women, and there are bikes for pairs. If you have a child, you can borrow a child seat or a special cart in which you can place children, and ride with the whole family. The reflective coating on the paths allows you to drive not only during the day, but also at night.

Moscow forest parks

Forest parks are considered excellent places for cycling. Paved paths make it easy to control the bike, getting a lot of pleasure from the ride and the nature around. In Moscow, the Kuzminsky Forest Park and Losiny Ostrov are of particular interest to cyclists.

Kuzminsky Forest Park is an excellent place for a bike ride, the beginning of which is the recreation area near the Ponomarka River. The area up to the Moscow Ring Road has a fairly flat surface. The ring bike path, which reaches 8 km, runs in a circle from the Shibaevsky pond, passing the Lower and Upper Kuzminsky ponds. Then it passes through the territory of the forest, moving from which through the village of Kotelniki, you can get to the Lytkarinsky forest. There are quarries nearby with paths quite common for cyclists.

Losiny Ostrov is a favorite place for cyclists. It gained popularity due to its size and the presence of tracks convenient for skating. There are both paths and asphalt roads. All conditions are created for cycling. One-day cycling tours are also regularly organized on its territory.

Extreme skiing areas

Extreme sports are rapidly gaining more and more fans, and buying a bicycle in Moscow to meet these needs is not a problem today. Moreover, along with this, new places for practicing such sports are appearing. In Moscow there are about 5 specially equipped areas for extreme skiing.

Vorobyovy Gory offers a lot of opportunities for all kinds of extreme skiing. Jumping boards for developing dirt skills and many descents of different sizes will not leave any cycling fan indifferent. In addition, cycling competitions are often held here, where even a beginner can test himself.

Extreme cyclists from all over Moscow come to the sand quarry located in Lytkarino to try out descent and drop-off techniques. The beauty is that the descents have varying degrees of difficulty, and the size of the drop-offs ranges from 2 to 5 meters. This area has exciting trails that have all the basic characteristics of cross-country.

Troparevo is another good place for cross-country skiing. Due to the fact that there are sections with steep descents and several long climbs, you can often meet those who are fond of dirt jumping.

You can regularly see cyclists in Orekhovo-Borisovo. In this area of Moscow there is a bike-cross track that brings everyone together for competitions in this type of riding. It is also popular among those who are just developing their skills in cycling. All downhill fans train here too.

Strogino is a place that is considered unique. Only here is a track for duals, which is full of jumps of different sizes. Therefore, all lovers of this type of skiing come here. In addition, there is an excellent dirt track where beginner cyclists can practice.

Cycling routes

In Moscow there are 3 interesting and most common routes among cyclists, along which you can get acquainted with the sights of the city by bicycle.

The “Gardens and Vegetable Vegetables” route starts near the Kolos pavilion. From the first seconds of driving you will see the sights - a monument to the great biologist Michurin, next to which there is a no longer working Golden Ear fountain. Behind is the Botanical Garden. Tsitsin, however, it is prohibited to ride on its territory. To avoid conflict situations, we plan our route along Mira Avenue, adhering to the direction of the center of the capital. “Apothecary Garden” can become a stopping place; there is a parking lot where you can leave your bike. This is the oldest botanical garden in Moscow, where it is pleasant to walk and look at exotic plants, and you can also go to the pond and admire these picturesque places. Then we reach an intersection on the Garden Ring, where we turn left to get to the Arma plant on Kazakova Street. This is a very interesting place that invites you to become a gardener. To do this, you need to rent a garden bed for an additional fee, where you can organize your own small vegetable garden. The public garden is the end point of this route.

The “Moscow Monasteries” route is 33 km long and will take about 4 hours. The beginning is Vorobyovy Gory - a popular gathering place for cyclists in the capital. Traffic passes along Kosygina Street, passing Gagarin Square, and heads towards Leninsky Prospekt. Afterwards, you need to turn to end up on Stasovaya Street and from there move to Donskaya, after passing which you need to get to 1 Donskoy proezd. Here is the oldest Donskoy Monastery, the foundation of which dates back to 1591. The next point on the route will be the first Moscow monastery - Danilov. To get to it from Lesteva Street, you need to drive along Mytnaya and get to Danilovsky Val, where this monastery is located. Then we follow Dubinenskaya Street and pass Zhukov Passage. On Derbenevskaya Street you need to cross the Novospassky Bridge to find yourself near the Novospassky Monastery. Then we move in the direction of another architectural monument - the Simonov Monastery, passing Simonvskaya embankment and Vostochnaya street. To see the Novodevichy Convent you will have to travel a long time along the Moscow River. Having reached 3rd Frunzenskaya Street, we make our way along Efremov Street and 10th Anniversary of October Street. The final point of the route is St. Andrew's Monastery. The path to it lies through Luzhniki Street, passing the Luzhnetsky Bridge, and on the embankment we meet this monastery.

The route “Embankments of the Moscow River” (like the previous one) originates on Vorobyovy Gory. Its main attractions are Andreevskaya, Krymskaya, Yakimanskaya, Bolotnaya, Sadovnicheskaya embankments. Having passed the Bolshoi Krasnokholmsky Bridge, we find ourselves on the Kosmodamianskaya and Shlyuzovaya embankments. The opposite direction of the route runs along Krasnokholmskaya, Goncharnaya, Kotelnicheskaya, Moskvoretskaya, Kremlevskaya, Prechistenskaya and Frunzenskaya embankments.

The Krylatskoye cycling track is a sports facility located on Krylatskaya Street in the shape of an ellipse - a favorite place for cycling fans. It was here that many world records were set. The size of the track is characterized by the following parameters - length 333 m, width - 10 m. In addition, there are facilities for trying yourself in other sports.

At first glance, it may seem that Moscow, a noisy and huge metropolis, is not at all suitable for traveling by bicycle. However, the capital has many parks and green areas where you can take a break from the hustle and bustle and go for a ride with friends. Bicycles as a mode of transport are becoming increasingly popular, so many park complexes are already equipped with special bike paths, long slopes and even jumps.

We have prepared a list of the most popular places among cyclists, which will contain a lot of interesting things for both lovers of quiet riding and athletes.

Make time for summer bike rides and discover Moscow in a new way!

Fans of extreme sports will love the local pump track, which is considered the largest in Moscow, as well as a dual track with an endless number of jumps.

Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo Park 0+

The well-maintained park in north-east Moscow boasts an impressive number of bike paths to suit a wide range of tastes. The flat terrain and shady routes will remind you that cycling is more of a recreation than a sport. Although supporters of obstacles will also have something to keep themselves busy on the park’s rather steep slides. There is also a track for pro riders, suitable for training beginners and professionals.

If you have a road bike, then everything is simple - except on asphalt, it will be difficult to ride, so choose any streets, even more picturesque ones - and go ahead! It is important to remember that not all roads in Russia allow cycling: in Moscow, for example, cyclists are prohibited from entering the Third Ring Road, the Moscow Ring Road and similar routes.

Another group of bicycles - trial, freestyle and street/dirt bikes - are not suitable for riding in the full sense of the word: they are not suitable for traveling long distances. As a rule, fans of this get to sites where they can perform stunts by public transport. Therefore, we will tell you about other bikes.

The most common are mountain, touring, hybrid and so-called “city bikes” - city bikes. They have a wider range of applications; you can ride both on asphalt and on dirt or sand (each type listed above is more focused on its own surface).

The easiest way is to ride such bicycles every day: to work or to college. It seems that it is difficult, but if the distance is not very long, up to 10 km one way, then why not take a ride: it will take about half an hour.

If we take into account that in Moscow the average car speed is slightly above 20 km/h, and in many Russian cities 10 km is the distance almost from edge to edge (if we are not talking about Volgograd;)), then we can confidently talk about that a bicycle is a real replacement not only for a car, but also for public transport.

There is only one disadvantage of this type of cycling - the route is not very flexible, it can get boring. Some may be confused by the problems associated with sweating, parking, rain and the harsh Russian winter, but we cover this in more detail in our other articles. If the roads in your area are heavily polluted, we recommend using a respirator (or, if possible, making your way through parks and quiet courtyards).

If you get to work by bicycle every day, but this is not enough for you, or, conversely, a bicycle is not transport for you, but a sports equipment or a means of recreation, then you can take an evening (or morning, depending on your preference) promenade.

Almost all parks are suitable for such riding (cyclists have recently been allowed to ride on sidewalks at a walking speed, which is approximately 6 km/h, which has legalized the presence of cyclists in parks where there are neither bike paths nor roads), but in some you may deny access to a bicycle, and in some cases not allow it into some areas of the territory (this is due to environmental protection activities).

When riding around the park, you shouldn’t speed up too much, because pedestrians are sudden and unpredictable. These people have the unique ability to instantly stop or suddenly change direction to the opposite direction. The park is an excellent place for a leisurely family bike ride (even if you have a small child, he can ride with you in a child’s bike seat).

Places for cycling

The good thing about parks is that it’s not just fresh air, but oxygen-rich air! Additionally, if you don't have your own bike, some parks offer rentals. Well, they are often equipped with the same tracks or areas for extreme cycling. If you don't participate, you can still watch!

Another good option where you can build your cycling route is the embankment. It is not only beautiful and pleasant, but also convenient: almost always there are not narrow, but wide sidewalks, now more and more often with real bicycle paths.

Of course, if you don’t have the opportunity to get out of town on the weekend, you can ride exactly the same routes on Saturday and Sunday. If you get bored with your park, you can go to another one. If you’re bored of riding alone, then on cycling forums, VKontakte groups or on sites like Katushkin.ru you can find a travel companion or company in your city or even district.

Bicycle trips

But if you have a mountain or touring bike, then why not use it at least occasionally for its intended purpose? It is much more pleasant to go into nature. You can go straight from home on your own, or you can take the train and travel part of the way on it. Some people think that this is unsporting, but let others set records!

If you want to ride through the forest without exerting any effort, just for your own pleasure, swim in a lake or river, take photographs in meadows and fields, then what’s wrong with the fact that a train took you and your iron friend to your destination? The main thing on such a hike is not to get carried away and miss the return train.

Or you can take everything with you for lodging and cooking and go on a trip with one or two overnight stays - if you throw out a call, for example, on the same sites mentioned above, you will probably find a small group of like-minded people who are ready to join the company on such a PVD (weekend hike) day). We will tell you more about multi-day hikes in our other articles.

The main thing is to be sure to take a set of hexagons, spare tubes (or glue with patches) and a pump (however, this set is worth having with you, if not always, then on every more or less distant trip).

Increasingly, cyclists go on vacation to ride bicycles in other cities in Russia or even abroad! See, the answer to the question “where to ride a bike” came out so big, but it could fit in one word: “everywhere”! Ride!

7. What else do you need to know before you go?

Before your first bike ride in the city:

1. Learn the rules of the road for cyclists. The cyclist must obey the rules of the road that apply to vehicles. It is prohibited to ride a bicycle that has a faulty brake system or steering system. Signals must be given before starting to move, changing lanes, turning (turning) and stopping.

2. Read the rules for transporting bicycles on public transport: in the metro, ground transport, commuter trains.
