Volkswagen Passat CC review

CC is not WWII German troops, not an African killer fly, or any other horror you might think of. No, here we are talking about a specific CC (Comfort-Coupe), presented at the November 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, namely, a restyled “premium” Volkswagen sedan. As a result of the upgrade to the 2012 model year, the word Passat disappeared from the name of the car (at least abroad, but in the Russian Federation it is still used for recognition). Apparently, VW marketers decided that the Passat is not noble enough and does not correspond to the “premium sauce” under which the restyled model is served. Well, no, so no, CC - he, as they say, is CC in Africa. Read all the details about the updated car of the 2012 model in our review!

Design

Let's start with the fact that SS 2012 is the last of the gunakans. No joke, everything is quite serious, because this is the last thing that the hand of the former chief designer of the brand, Murat Gunak, touched in VW. For reference: the authorship of Gunak belongs to the chrome “beard” of the Passat B6, Jetta and Touareg, as well as the 5th Golf, which is swollen with fat, not to mention other “pre-reform” cars of the concern.

According to rumors, the author of the appearance of CC Günak was fired "for inconsistency." Walter de Silva, who took his place, quickly dealt with all his "decorations", starting with the Scirocco hatchback. The look of the Polo, Touareg, Tiguan, Jetta, Passat has changed... And here's the bad luck: only CC 2012 was born already under the guidance of a new designer, but with a style inherited from the old one. Well, that happens too. Despite all the design ups and downs, we can say with confidence that in the conditions of a modern city, CC is an up-to-date option. Its coupe-shaped body, head optics shining with rhinestones of LED dimensions, and rear lights lined with the Vrubel pattern of LEDs look appropriate always and everywhere.

Design

The distance between the axles of the wheels of the CC is 1 mm less than that of an ordinary Passat (total - 2.711 m), but it has the same suspension scheme: MacPherson struts are installed in front, and a four-lever in the back. At the same time, the “premium” sedan has different chassis settings and 15% softer springs. Electronically controlled DCC dampers are an option available on both models. For such shock absorbers, the actuators can change the flow area of the valves at the command of the electronics, which receives data from sensors about the position of the steering wheel, wheel travel, acceleration and deceleration of the car. During the modernization, the CC has improved sound insulation. To reduce the noise level, high-quality noise-absorbing materials are used - they are built into the bottom, as well as into the front, rear and side parts of the body. Optimized fenders in the wheel arches and a special sound-absorbing film on the windshield, which consists of 6 layers with a total thickness of 4 mm, work to improve the “shumka”.

Adaptation to Russian conditions

The CC is adapted to driving in Russian conditions no worse than any other sedan with claims to the “premium class”. Its chassis is one of the best in its segment, the ground clearance is quite standard - 154 mm when fully loaded, and the trunk is quite roomy - it fits at least 532 liters. luggage, and this is enough to transport all vital things. The drive is front-wheel drive by default, and branded all-wheel drive 4 Motion is offered for a fee. A folding towbar testifies to the "folk" roots of the model.

Comfort

Salon CC 2012 is good, but, of course, it is not premium: it does not reach the cherished “premium” in terms of sophistication. There are few differences between the interior and the interior of the predecessor and, in particular, from the Passat B7. Like the previous model, in place of the alarm button in the center of the dashboard, there is an analog clock, and a natural wooden insert is stretched along the entire length of the dashboard. Aluminum on the console is also the same, that neither is real. In the evening, the salon welcomes the driver with a scattering of scarlet lights - symbols of different systems on the buttons and keys responsible for controlling the numerous functions of the car. Even the buttons for opening the luggage compartment and gas tank are illuminated, as well as the rotary knobs for adjusting the direction of air flow from the ventilation deflectors. Very comfortable and pleasant! The screen on the center console is in “crimson tones”, but the dashboard is made in the traditional white color for VW and, by the way, is amazingly clear in itself. The separate “climate” controls have been changed in the process of restyling, and all climate control settings are broadcast on the display of the media system for clarity. Thanks to this solution, you can not choose the direction of air flow among the "hard" set buttons, but combine these directions as you like.

When landing behind the wheel, a tall driver is forced to become like a folding knife. The doorway is not so narrow (on the contrary, it is very wide), as the thick outer bolster of lateral support on the chair cushion is high - a natural rib, no more, no less. But what an effective lateral support! And on the pillow, and on the back of the chair, it is felt in full. But the seat controls are a little discouraging. For some reason, the mechanical handles are responsible for the longitudinal and height adjustment, while the adjustments for the backrest and lumbar support (and the position of its roller in height) are electric. Come on, figure it out the first time what is what here. As for the steering wheel, its parameters are optimal, and the grip is extremely comfortable. On the back sofa, despite the drop-down roof, it is relatively spacious. Of the attributes of comfort, heating and ventilation deflectors, heating adjustment knobs and an armrest with cup holders are provided here. Heating is also available on the 1st row - coupled with a massager and ventilation.

Already in the initial configuration, the CC is equipped with a set of 6 airbags, a stabilization system and many other "chips". The list of electronic assistants includes systems for tracking markings, traffic sign recognition, car parking (including perpendicular ones), familiar from the usual Passat, etc. Of the innovations, it is worth noting only dead zone monitoring and a driver fatigue sensor. You will have to pay extra for the rear view camera. The safety of the sedan as a whole can be judged by the results of crash tests of a simple latest generation Passat. In the tests of the European independent organization Euro NCAP, conducted in 2014, the Passat earned 5 points out of 5 possible, receiving the title of one of the most reliable representatives of the class of large family cars. The results of crash tests look like this: driver or adult passenger protection - 85%, child protection - 87%, pedestrian protection - 66%, electronic assistants - 76%.

The basic version of the CC is equipped with a full-fledged multimedia complex with a 12.7-inch color touchscreen, CD player, AM / FM radio, 8 speakers, AUX-jack and SD-card slot. If you pay extra, you will be able to get an even larger, 16.5-inch screen with Bluetooth for wireless connection of gadgets. In addition, as an option, a Discover Media multimedia system with navigation, a 16.5-inch screen, 2 SD card slots and a USB input is offered. The latter would benefit from faster and more intuitive navigation.

Volkswagen Passat SS Specifications

VW decided not to touch what was already perfectly tuned, so the direct injection engines familiar to fans of the brand have been preserved in the CC lineup. First of all, we are talking about supercharged gasoline “fours” TSI with a volume of 1.8 and 2 liters, which develop 152 and 210 hp. respectively. The top engine - a 3.6-liter 6-cylinder "aspirated" FSI - produces 300 hp. and works in conjunction with all-wheel drive 4 Motion. Gearboxes - 6-speed manual transmission and 6-speed DSG robotic transmission. The dynamics of the coupe-shaped CC is excellent: the most powerful modification accelerates to “hundreds” in just 5.5 seconds, and the “weakest” in 8.5 seconds. And fuel consumption, judging by the passport data, is moderate - from 7.3 to 9.3 liters. per 100 km, but the actual consumption may be more.

To some, the German crossover Volkswagen Touareg will seem quite expensive, because when car prices start at two and a half million, this is no joke. And someone will think that such a cost is absolutely fair, because for this money you can get a powerful all-wheel drive "SUV" with an attractive appearance, high-quality interior design, high ground clearance and, finally, with ...

Nowadays, there is a clear trend towards overconsumption. In everything it does not manifest itself: in touch screens that do not need to be pressed, like physical buttons, and in smartphones, which are changed by some more often than socks, and in unmanned control systems for cars, which are still available, albeit not for most cars, but, nevertheless, really accessible. Everything points to the need...

Strict classic design, true German handling and compact dimensions - this is what Volkswagen calls the Jetta. What is Jetta? We are talking about a kind of beefy Polo or underfed Passat, endowed with amazing practicality and accuracy - in the best German traditions.
