In August 2013, the domestic SUV UAZ Patriot celebrated its eighth anniversary and, in honor of its birthday, presented itself to its fans in a new version of the 2014 model. The official presentation of the next restyled version of the Patriot took place on August 6 in Ulyanovsk, and during it the UAZ management boasted of its sales success: if in the first year of the existence of the Patriot model, dealers sold only 8,500 cars, then last year 27,000 SUVs were sold, and this year, this figure will exceed 30,000, unless, of course, the UAZ Patriot 2014 model year, whose sales have already begun, will appeal to domestic buyers.
Outwardly, UAZ Patriot 2014 is difficult to distinguish from its predecessor - the cars are identical except for the LED elements in the daytime running lights. The dimensions of the SUV remained the same: the length is 4700 mm, while the wheelbase is 2760 mm, the width with mirrors does not exceed 2100 mm, and the height is limited to 1910 mm. The ground clearance of the Patriot is 210 mm, while it is able to overcome fords up to 500 mm deep.
The body structure has not undergone major changes during the restyling, but some elements have been further strengthened. In particular, the hood is made of a new type of metal, which made it much heavier, which forced the manufacturer to abandon the usual hydro bearings and change them to mechanical hinges, supplemented by a long stop (a return to the past, not otherwise).
The interior of the five-seat Patriot saloon has changed more noticeably. First of all, we note the new upholstery of the ceiling. She finally became solid, more pleasant to the touch and got rid of the eternal problem with sagging in the center. The layout of the front panel was changed last year, but now the quality of fitting parts has improved slightly, and the plastic has become a little softer. New ceiling handles appeared above the doors (looks like they were borrowed from Lada Kalina). The gearshift lever has become a little shorter, it fits easier in the hand, and annoying backlash has disappeared when shifting gears. Disappeared, of course, not completely, but progress is obvious and well noticeable.
Now let's move to the trunk. Here, the developers used a completely new upholstery with a very secure fastening and a high level of fit, at least on the new car nothing hangs or creaks when pressed. The trunk shelf has also changed, but it is rather difficult to say something good or bad about it. By the way, in the luggage compartment there is another detail “stolen” from the Lada Kalina - this is the lighting cover on the right side. Its location must be recognized as not very convenient - when the trunk is fully loaded, there is little sense from it. The capacity of the cargo compartment remains the same - 960 liters in the standard state and 2300 liters with the second row of seats folded down.
Specifications. UAZ Patriot 2014 did not receive new engines. The choice of the buyer left the old engines: one petrol and one diesel. The base is considered to be a gasoline four-cylinder unit with a displacement of 2.7 liters, the maximum power of which is 128 hp. at 4600 rpm. The torque of the gasoline engine at its peak rests on the mark of 209.7 Nm, already achieved at 2500 rpm, which allows the SUV to have excellent qualities in terms of cross-country ability. But in the conditions of a high-speed highway, the UAZ engine will not give rapid acceleration, so overtaking a truck cannot be called a pleasant experience, especially since the Patriot's speed limit is 150 km / h.
As for fuel consumption, the average level of gasoline consumption is predicted by the manufacturer at around 11.5 liters at a speed of 90 km / h. In off-road conditions, the consumption easily jumps up to 20 liters, so it was not in vain that the developers supplied the UAZ Patriot with two gas tanks with a total volume of 72 liters.
The diesel engine is even less impressive. Its working volume is 2.2 liters (2235 cm3), and the maximum return does not exceed 113.5 hp. Of course, the diesel engine produces more torque - 270 Nm at 1800 rpm, which is very useful off-road, but does not give any advantages on the highway. Moreover, the maximum speed of the diesel version of the UAZ Patriot does not exceed 135 km / h, at which a frequent desire to overtake someone is unlikely to appear. Pleases only more economical fuel consumption - 9.5 liters.
Both UAZ Patriot engines of the 2014 model year are aggregated only with a 5-speed “mechanics”, but the transfer case for the Patriot is now new. The old noisy UAZ transfer case is finally a thing of the past and its place was taken by a modern Korean Dymos transfer case with a gear ratio of 2.56 instead of the previous 1.94, which significantly improved the Patriot's cross-country ability. In addition, the new razdatka practically does not make noise, and it is controlled by means of a convenient washer, and not a mechanical lever. However, this decision, which brings the UAZ Patriot 2014 closer to the crossover class, will not appeal to all fans of off-road driving. The fact is that if the engine stalls when the downshift is on (4L mode), then the downshift is turned off automatically, and then it may not turn on anymore, i.e. you will need to drive several hundred meters before the electronics "come to life". Given the fact that the engine in the mud or on a difficult climb can stall quite often, this behavior of the Korean transfer case does not inspire much optimism.
The chassis of the UAZ Patriot 2014 remained practically unchanged: a dependent spring suspension in front and a dependent design with two longitudinal semi-elliptical leaf springs in the rear. Of the improvements made, we highlight the new principle of operation of the handbrake drive: if it previously blocked the cardan shaft, now it blocks the rear wheels.
The main braking system remains the same, with two-cylinder disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear. In all modifications, the SUV is equipped with power steering.
Options and prices. Petrol UAZ Patriot 2014 is offered in five trim levels: basic "Welcome", "Classic", "Comfort", "Limited" and "Trophy" for connoisseurs of a completely off-road style. The diesel version is limited to Comfort, Limited and Trophy equipment only. In the basic version, the car is equipped with 16-inch stamped wheels, athermal windows, immobilizer, central locking, headrests, fabric interior, full power accessories and a full spare tire.
The price of the new UAZ Patriot starts at 499,000 rubles. The most affordable diesel version will cost at least 711,000 rubles. According to the manufacturer, the next update of the Patriot is scheduled for 2015 (then the SUV will receive a new gasoline engine, different optics, different bumpers and a whole set of minor interior improvements).
Eight years have passed since the UAZ Patriot was released by a domestic manufacturer, and the adherents of this brand of car froze in anticipation of the promised novelty. Finally, on August 6, 2014, a solemn display of the brainchild of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant in a restyled version took place.

The power window control unit can now be found on the armrest of the driver's seat, as a result, this function has become much easier to operate. Behind the steering wheel is a wheel switch. The climate control system has been improved, now it corresponds to the Western model. The 2014 Patriot package includes a "winter package" - now the seats are heated both in the back and in front, which is really pleasing, because the frosts in Russia are very severe.
Now let's look at the luggage compartment. The developers used completely new upholstery and fastenings of a high degree of reliability with an excellent fit. Now everything is coordinated in the car, nothing dangles, does not creak during pressure. The shelf in the trunk has also changed, thanks to the new configuration, it looks more compact and convenient. Under the hood, the Patriot has a new ZMZ-51432 diesel unit with a turbocharger function. It perfectly complements the ZMZ-409 gasoline engine and has been installed on the UAZ Patriot since 2014. The Bosch concern helped the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant to create such an engine. This is an improved version of the unit that was installed earlier.

Engine power has not changed: a 2.7-liter gasoline unit produces 128 hp. from. The volume of the turbocharged diesel engine is 2.2 liters. The speed limit of the gasoline engine is 150 km/h, the diesel engine is 135 km/h. The first unit weighs 40 kilograms, it is lighter than diesel, although the lifting force does not change - 530 kilograms.
The power of the machine has noticeably increased due to the installation of an imported distribution box. Now the value of the working row reduction factor has increased to 2.96. As a result, the noise reaching the interior of the SUV has been reduced. The distribution system has become much longer than the previous version. And since the cardan shaft was shortened, the intermediate support was simply not needed. Due to the installation of a new box, the floor tunnel has also changed. The battery has not been forgotten either, it has acquired a larger volume. All this indicates that the designers of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant took care of improving the car.
The suspension of the updated Patriot is fixed at the front with a stabilizer bar using springs, and at the rear is held by leaf springs. The hydraulic supports were removed, and mechanical type hinges were returned in their place. As an addition to them - a long stop for greater strength. The crossbar of the frame has acquired a new shape.
The car has a reinforced suspension
The handbrake is now directly connected to the rear wheels, and not, as before, through the driveshaft. Changes in this area are quite noticeable. Brakes rear drum, front - disc. A five-speed manual transmission, power steering, made in Italy, help to cope with the car without much effort.
The control lever now fits more comfortably in the hand, has become shorter, the backlash that appears when shifting gears has been practically removed. Comfort in gear shifting has increased, since the new selector offers three options for positions:
- when choosing the 2H variation, the rod moves to the rear axle system;
- 4H - and you are using a front-wheel drive system;
- 4L - transmission work is reduced.
Now, in order for the car to go in front-wheel drive, it is enough to lower the speed to 60 km / h and move the control lever to the 4H position. If you decide to use a downshift, you have to stop. Squeeze the clutch pedal all the way, move the shift lever to position 4L and hold it in this position until the special activator located on the dashboard lights up. During downshifting, small disturbances in the electronics of the machine are possible. This is one of the shortcomings of the new Patriot.
The improvement of the car continues. Promised a new wiring that meets international standards, an electromechanical distribution system, and an automatic transmission will not interfere. According to the authors of the project, already in 2015 the appearance of the car will change dramatically, and a 2.0 turbocharged gasoline engine is expected to be delivered in the very near future.
At the end of the summer of 2013, the automobile plant in Ulyanovsk began producing the updated UAZ Patriot 2014. In the new UAZ Patriot, the changes affected only the transmission, interior trim and improved front passenger safety.

UAZ Patriot has dependent suspension front and rear. Ahead — spring suspension with anti-roll bar. The rear axle is on two longitudinal semi-elliptic leaf springs. The design of the chassis may seem archaic and not very comfortable, but for a real SUV, which is the Patriot, this is the most practical and reliable option in terms of operation and maintenance. The steering of the car is of the “screw-ball nut” type with hydraulic booster and adjustable steering column. The drive is a permanent rear, with a rigidly connected front axle. The model acquired a new V-shaped radiator grille, headlights that have changed their design and are equipped with photodiode daytime running lights, nice body-colored side mirrors with built-in turn signals.
As a result, the 2014 Patriot has acquired a harmonious and holistic look. The new UAZ received integrated side steps with volumetric niches that are not damaged when traveling off-road. To increase lateral stability when maneuvering, the car acquired a rear stabilizer. In addition, the updated UAZ has a stylish spare wheel container, decorated with a silver "Patriot" inscription and modern taillights. In order not to affect the patency, the ground clearance remained unchanged - 210 mm.
Earlier, in June 2014, a limited edition of Patriot UnLimited was released. The body of the UnLimited was painted in an exclusive color (Quartz Metallic) and the wheels were blackened R16 light alloy wheels. On the road, the UnLimited model is easily identified by the original spare wheel container, the chrome rim sparkling in the sun. The interior of the car is equipped with black leather seats, decorated with a two-tone "UnLimited" logo. The very first review of the UnLimited special series showed increased attention and high interest of car enthusiasts in this product, so these cars are unlikely to have time to stagnate in the parking lots of dealers.
First evaluation of a new car
Three configurations of the Patriot family cars were put on the conveyor: Classic, Comfort and Limited. Any of them can be equipped with both gasoline and diesel engines. Possessing equal performance characteristics, the configurations are distinguished by an additional level of comfort, with the Limited having the maximum level. Starting from October 2014, all official UAZ dealers began accepting applications for the Patriot 2014 model year. The color range of cars sold is extremely rich and can satisfy the most sophisticated and refined taste. Of particular interest to buyers is the top Limited, which is maximally equipped with everything necessary.
Test drives conducted by dealerships showed good adaptation of the car to both urban and off-road conditions, which is also confirmed by tests carried out by buyers of UAZ products. Customers highly appreciate the high driving performance, interior and equipment of the updated model.
Most dealers were well prepared for the release of the 2014 car, so each of them had their own presentation, where the Patriot was presented in a Limited package. The press, in their assessments, was unanimous in their assessment that UAZ products were met with great interest.
