Meaning of the word gorodnya. Enclosed in a sewer: The history of the Gorodnya River About the origin of the name

It originates in the east of the South-Western Autonomous Okrug, flows through the south of Moscow. Second longest after Setun the right tributary of the Moskva River in the south of the city. Its length is 16 km, including 14 km in the open channel. (of which 4.8 km are under water). The area of the basin is about 100 km2. The average water consumption is 0.76 m 3 / s. It originates from the Teplostan Upland, within the Bitsevsky forest, after which it flows in an underground collector along the Kirovograd passage, where there are floodplain ponds; crosses Varshavskoe highway, Paveletskoe and Kursk directions of the Moscow railway, then flows through Verkhnetsaritsynsky, Nizhnetsaritsynsky And Borisov Ponds, at the exit of which it flows in an open channel and flows into the Moscow River at the Besedinsky Bridge. A collector was laid along the ponds to drain polluted waters into a settling pond located at the mouth of the Gorodnya. Tributaries: right - Ulcer And Shmelyovka , Boyakov , Popov , Teplyakovsky And Senkovsky ravines; left - Kotlyakovka , Belyaeva ravine And Chertanovka. The valley is deeply incised for almost its entire length, picturesque, but greatly changed and retains its natural appearance only within the Bitsevsky forest; in 1991, five of its sections were declared a natural monument. In 1971, the Gorodyansky bridge was built. At the mouth section, the content of oil products and iron salts exceeds the MPC. Gorodnya has no fishery and recreational value, but gives originality to the architectural and landscape appearance of the city. On the banks were the villages of Biryulyovo, Pokrovskoye (Pokrovskoye-Gorodnya), Tsaritsyno, Khokhlovka, Shipilovka, Borisovo, Brateevo. Gorodyanka Street is named after Gorodyanka.

Obviously, Gorodnya got its name from the name of the village of Pokrovskoye-Gorodnya, where Gorodnya is a common name for settlements (cf. city, gorodit, etc.). A variant of the hydronym Gorodyanka is derived from Gorodnya, the street is named after it. Gorodyanka. E.M. Pospelov (1999) offers a proper hydronymic explanation of the name of the river Gorodnya: from the word gorodnya “fence, fence in the river”, etc., also pointing out the possibility of comparison with Baltic hydronyms (lit. Gardena, Latvian. Gardienes, etc., according to the interpretation of V.N. Toporov): " The name comes from the word Gorodnya- "fence, fence in the river"; "stabbing, interruption, fish slaughtering with a gate into which a purse is inserted, or deaf; a simple wattle fence for a fish den" (see Dal V.I. Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language)".

From the State report "On the state of the environment of the city of Moscow in 2002", section "Assessment of the hydrochemical regime of water bodies in the city":
River Gorodnya, mouth. In 2002, there was a decrease in the concentration of suspended solids from 11.9 mg/l to 10.52 mg/l, ammonia nitrogen from 1.7 MPC to 1.5 MPC, nitrite nitrogen from 8.5 MPC to 1.99 MPC. At the level of last year, the content of organic substances in BOD 5 remains - 1.4 MPC, oil products - 4.12 MPC, iron ions - 8.1 MPC. Chlorides, sulfates, dry residue, nitrogen of nitrates remained within the MPC. The concentration of manganese ions increases from 13 MPC to 20.75 MPC, nickel from trace amounts to 8.06 MPC, zinc from 4.8 to 6.03 MPC. At the same time, there is a decrease in copper ions from 14.8 to 7.83 MPC. Chromium, cobalt, cadmium remain within the MPC.

Walk along Gorodnya: part 1 (Bitsevsky forest park) , part 2 (Chertanovo, to Warsaw highway) and part 3 (Pokrovskoye) .

In the distance, over the edge of the forest, visible a little from behind gorodny, a pillar of light, unshaken by the wind fire, rose, stood, flaring up brighter and brighter, like a luminous sword raised to heaven, and finally the red-hot golden edge of the bright morning sun crawled out from behind the hill.

This river is the second in terms of water flow and length in Moscow after the Setun. This is the right, located within the city, a tributary of the Moscow River. Some sections of the valley of this reservoir are a favorite vacation spot for many Muscovites.

The name of the river is Gorodnya. Where is it located and what does it represent? You can learn about this and much more by reading the information in the article.

Location

The river begins at the intersection of St. Rokotov (next to the Novoyasenevskaya metro station) and Solovyinoy proyezd and crosses the famous forest park Bitsevsky. Then it flows through an underground pipe to the Pokrovskaya station (Kursk direction), and then - in an open channel along the northern section of the Chertanovo Yuzhnoye district.

At the Tsaritsyno site, the Gorodnya River is mostly dammed and forms the Borisovskie and Tsaritsynskie Ponds. Further, crossing Brateevo near the Besedinsky bridge on the Moscow Ring Road, it flows into the Moscow River.

Something from history

The lands surrounding Gorodnya have been inhabited since ancient times. The first known settlers are Vyatichi-Slavs. Their barrows (dated by archaeologists as structures of the 12th-13th centuries) could be found back in the 20th century along the entire length of the river near the following settlements: Pokrovskoye, Biryulyovo, Shipilovo, Brateevo, Borisovo. The villages of the Vyatichi were located below these mounds, near the river itself.

Apparently, on the site of one of the burial mounds, on the left bank of the Gorodnya River, the Brateevskoye settlement remained. In 1992, together with the Brateevsky barrows, it was taken under state protection. Whether there is anything left of it today, it is difficult to say.

Description

The length of the river is 16,000 meters, 13,500 of which runs in an open channel (including ponds). In the lower part of the reservoir is quite heavily polluted.

Right tributaries: Shmelevka, Yazvenka, Popov, Boyakov, Popov, Senkovsky and Tepliakovsky ravines. Left tributaries: Kotlyakovka, Chertanovka and Belyaeva ravine. The valley of the Gorodnya River in Moscow is picturesque and deeply incised for almost its entire length, but it has been greatly altered. It retains its original appearance only within the Bitsevsky forest. In 1991, 5 of its zones were declared natural monuments. In 1971, the Gorodyansky bridge was thrown across the river.

Settlements

At the mouth of the river, the content of iron salts and oil products in the water exceeds the maximum allowable concentrations.

Having no recreational and fishery significance, Gorodnya gives some originality to the landscape and architectural appearance of the city. The coastal areas include the villages of Pokrovskoye, Biryulyovo, Tsaritsyno, Shipilovka, Khokhlovka, Brateevo and Borisovo.

Gorodyanka street got the same name with the river.

About the origin of the name

Most likely, the Gorodnya River in Moscow (the photo is presented in the article) received its name from the name of the village of Pokrovskoye-Gorodnya. Pospelov E. M. offers a hydronymic explanation of the name of the river: the word "gorodnya" is a fence, a fence in the river.

In other words, the name "Gorodnya" (or "Gorodenka" in the 16th-19th centuries) comes from the word "fence", which means "to build a dam, block off". There is a version that the name for this reservoir was invented in the XIII century by settlers from the vicinity of Kolomna.

Indeed, the dams on this river were established for fishing purposes and, according to archaeologists, for navigation. At a time when agricultural work was fraught with great difficulties, fishing was one of the main sectors of the economy. The surroundings are represented by dense forests and impassable snow, so the rivers at that time were the main means of communication. And today Gorodnya is the longest (16 km) water artery of the Southern District.

Attractions

Gorodnya has no tourist significance, but its valley in the area of the Bitsevsky Forest Park and the Tsaritsynsky Upper Pond is a place of mass summer recreation for residents of the capital. In the Brateevo region, the left bank of the river has been landscaped.

After Moscow Mayor S. Sobyanin inspected the park in the river valley in July 2012, approximately 230 million rubles were allocated for the improvement of its territory. Already in 2013, one of the sections of the park near Gorodnya became part of

Park in the floodplain of the river Gorodnya

This is a forest area with a river flowing through its territory. In the river valley there is near-water and tree-shrub vegetation. In front of the place where the Gorodnya flows into the Moskva River, there is a large Brateevskaya floodplain with willows, reeds and cattail along the perimeter of the lakes.

Insects live in the park and plants included in the Red Book of the capital grow. In total there are more than 10 types. These are brittle algae, multi-colored tie, shiny dragonfly, unpaired chervonets butterfly, etc. There is also a wetland complex in the park (the largest within the Moscow Ring Road). This is the habitat of 58 species of animals.

After the reconstruction (2012), volleyball and basketball courts appeared on the territory of the park, as well as a cozy picnic area. Bicycle paths (20 km) are equipped here, which turn into ski slopes in winter. In addition, gazebos for veterans have been built here and paths for walking, covered with paving slabs, have been laid.

rare inhabitant of the river

Only in Gorodnya a small population of one of the beautiful and rather rare species of frogs, the red-bellied toad, has been preserved. It differs from its relatives in the color of the belly of a bright red color with black spots. With such a peculiar coloring, it warns the heron, pike and perch that it is dangerous to eat it.

This species of amphibian secretes a rather poisonous mucus.

How to get there?

The Gorodnya River in Moscow, as noted above, flows through the city. To get to the park area, you need to get to the metro station "Borisovo" and, going out into the street, just cross the road. This is the intersection of St. Rokotov with Solovyin passage. Bitsevsky Park, the northern part of the Chertanovo Yuzhnoye district, the vicinity of the Pokrovskaya station, Tsaritsyno, the Brateevo and Zyablikovo districts, the section of the Besedinsky bridges - all these are the places where the river flows.

The park zone can be reached by buses No. 651, 648, 262 and by trolleybus No. 81 to the stop "Metro Bitsevsky Park". You can also drive to Novoyasenevskaya and Bitsevsky Park metro stations.

After the plague in the middle of the 17th century, when only a few people survived, a new village was rebuilt. It is located on a high hill (Brateevsky Hill), where people were given food by fertile soils on which fruit trees were grown. Fertile lands, vegetable gardens are located here, healing springs burst out of the ground next to the Borisov ponds (hence Klyuchevaya Street). The inhabitants were engaged in agriculture, crafts, fishing, while in the rivers Moscow and Gorodnya, between which the region is located, there was an abundance of fish of different varieties. Pike, roach, bream, burbot were found in the rivers. The fish caught by the Brateevites were taken to Moscow for sale. The Gorodnya River is the right tributary of the Moscow River. It begins its course near the Bitsevsky Park metro station, crossing the Bitsevsky forest park through an underground pipe, flows to the Pokrovskaya station, then flows openly in the Chertanovo Yuzhnoye area. In the Tsaritsino area it forms the Borisovskie and Tsaritsinskie ponds. It crosses Brateevo and enters the Moscow River near the Moscow Ring Road. The length of Gorodnya is 16 kilometers. In the 20th century it was a full-flowing river, navigable, full of fish. On the banks of the river there were villages such as Biryulyovo, Pokrovskoye, Shipilovo, Borisovo, Brateevo. The left bank of the river in the Brateevo area has been landscaped. There is a park and recreation areas. The floodplain of the Gorodnya River is considered a favorite vacation spot for the Brateevites. Currently, the Gorodnya River is heavily polluted, shallow, poisoned. In the floodplain of the river, every month wastes from the production of an oil refinery fall from the settling tanks. The entire Brateevskaya floodplain belongs to the site of severe pollution. But by 2010 the situation should improve, the Brateevo District Council plans to improve the river floodplain. The floodplain of the Gorodnya River will be strengthened and cleared. First of all, they will clean the bottom of the river and the water area, from household waste, wood residues. Silt deposits will be replaced by river sand. Sanitary cleaning and felling of dead trees will be carried out. Restore vegetation and grass cover. In addition, they promise to build a bridge for the convenience of residents. Floodplain of the Gorodnya River, in the Brateevo microdistrict, from the street. Brateevskaya to the Moscow River is a specially protected natural monument. In this place, the natural banks of the river, a low floodplain, and a river valley have been preserved. Near the banks of the river there are species of algae, strawberries, butterflies and dragonflies listed in the Red Book, in total about 10 species. And also in Gorodnya there are ducks and there are muskrats.
