Just a compact crossover Mitsubishi ASX

The Japanese crossover Mitsubishi ASX is one of the most popular SUVs among Russian motorists. The new Mitsubishi ACX appeared in Russia in the middle of summer 2010, and since then year by year it has only been increasing the army of its adherents. In our review, we will consider the technical characteristics of the updated Mitsubishi ACX crossover of the 2013 model, presented at the Paris Motor Show in 2012. We will evaluate the body colors, tires and wheels, sit down in the salon, look into the trunk, consider possible configurations, their level of filling and prices, and of course we will test drive on asphalt and off it. Traditionally, we will be helped by video and photo materials, analysis of owner reviews and comments from auto journalists.

How does a crossover with a modernized suspension manage, what is the real fuel consumption, where is it better to carry out maintenance of the Mitsubishi ASX and buy accessories for it, or maybe the car has weak points? Lots of questions, we'll try to answer them all.

When creating the ACX compact crossover, Japanese specialists followed a simple and, in our opinion, the right path. The larger Mitsubishi Outlander XL of the second generation was taken as the basis, which was underestimated and made more sloping roof, the front overhang was reduced by 95 mm and the stern was cut by 250 mm. By such a reduction, a compact ASX was obtained, while the dimensions of the wheelbase of the platform donor were preserved. The brainchild of Japanese engineers Mitsubishi ASX subsequently made it possible to create clones in the face of a French couple - and Peugeot 4008.

  • Specify external dimensions dimensions Mitsubishi ASX: 4295 mm long, 1770 mm wide, 1625 mm high, 2670 mm wheelbase, 195 mm ground clearance ( clearance).

Mitsubishi Outlander XL - with a body length of 4640 mm, a height of 1680 mm and a ground clearance of 215 mm. The downsizing resulted in a curb weight reduction of more than 200 kg, resulting in the weight of the compact ACX ranging from 1,300 kg to 1,455 kg, depending on the version.

  • Tires fit 215/65R16 or 215/60R17, steel or light alloy discs 16 size and 17 radius light alloy. As tuning, it is possible to install 215/55R18 rubber on R18 alloy wheels.
  • There is a wide range of body colors to choose from. colors enamels: white, white mother-of-pearl, black mother-of-pearl and metallics - silver, dark blue, turquoise, red and gray.

The body design of the compact crossover with three diamonds on the facing of a huge trapezoid false radiator grille is decided in the style of the Outlander XL and the Lancer X sedan.

The appearance of the updated ASX is practically indistinguishable from the pre-styling models of the car, the designers only slightly corrected the radiator grille, front and rear bumpers. Otherwise, the appearance of the Japanese has not changed, the strict lines of the wedge-shaped body, an overestimated window sill line, large doorways, a roof falling to the stern, a roasted rear end, moderate wheel arches, a neat rear and front bumper, strict lighting technology (rear with LED filling). And an obligatory attribute of a crossover in the face of plastic protection of the lower body of a car made of black plastic, capable of with dignity to withstand the blows of stones and sand flying from under the wheels.

The body of the Mitsu ACX is made with extensive use of high-strength steel and is seriously protected by an anti-corrosion and anti-gravel coating from below. The front fenders are plastic, despite the chopped forms, the drag coefficient is only 0.32 Cx. For severe Russian operating conditions, all Mitsubishi ASX are equipped with batteries with a larger capacity, antifreeze capable of withstanding temperatures below -40 degrees, a reconfigured engine control unit (cold start) and heated front seats.

The salon of the Japanese crossover Mitsubishi ACX is qualitatively assembled from materials that are pleasant to the touch (soft plastic, textured fabric upholstery, leather trim is possible). It is convenient to get into the car in the front and rear seats. Let's start the review of the interior, of course, from the driver's seat. The small steering wheel fits nicely in the hands, the steering column is adjustable in four directions, informative instruments are in two deep wells, between them is an on-board computer screen with a color information display. A chair with mechanical adjustments (electric drive option) provides a high and comfortable fit, but excessively dense padding causes fatigue in the lumbar region during long rides.

Front panel and center console with pleasant, soft outlines. Depending on the Mitsubishi ACX trim level, the console houses a radio (radio CD MP3 AUX 4 or 6 speakers) or advanced Rockford Fostgate music (subwoofer, 8 speakers), you can order a multimedia complex with a touch screen (navigator, CD DVD USB, Bluetooth, camera rear view). There is air conditioning or climate control, an air duct to the feet of the rear passengers.

In the second row, thanks to the large wheelbase, three passengers will be accommodated, but sitting is somewhat uncomfortable due to the vertical landing and low ceiling, and the miniature side windows cause a feeling of constraint.
The Mitsu ACX trunk in the stowed state holds 415 liters of cargo, a full-fledged spare tire is underground, folding the second row we get an almost flat area with 1219 liters of volume. The large fifth door provides a large rectangular opening, but the loading height is high.

Specifications Mitsubishi ACX 2012-2013: the car in Russia is offered with three gasoline engines.

  • 1.6-liter (117 hp) with 5 manual transmissions and front-wheel drive 2 WD, the engine accelerates the car to 100 mph in 11.4 seconds, top speed 183 mph, fuel consumption from 5 liters on the highway to 7.8 liters in the city. The real fuel consumption on the highway is 6.5-7.5 liters, in city traffic jams 10-11 liters.
  • 1.8-liter engine (140 hp), automatic transmission - CVT variator, with front-wheel drive (2 WD) provides acceleration to hundreds in 13.1 seconds, maximum speed of about 186 mph, passport fuel consumption of 6.4 liters outside the city and 9.8 liters in the city, in real operating conditions (owner reviews) will be from 7.5-8.5 liters on the highway to 11-12 liters in the city (in tight traffic jams up to 14 liters).
  • 2.0-liter engine (150 hp), automatic transmission - CVT variator, plug-in all-wheel drive (multi-select 4WD all-wheel drive transmission) with three modes (2WD - automatic all-wheel drive, 4WD - constant torque distribution along the axes and Lock- quick response mode of the electromagnetic clutch, but alas, not blocking). The motor, CVT and plug-in all-wheel drive accelerate the crossover to 100 km / h in 11.9 seconds at a top speed of 188 km / h (the owners boast that they accelerated more than 200 km / h). The owners fail to achieve the fuel efficiency indicators declared by the manufacturer from 6.8 liters on a suburban highway to 10.5 liters in the city, the engine actually consumes from 8-9 liters on the highway and 12-12.5 liters in the city.

The suspension is fully independent with anti-roll bars, MacPherson struts in front, multi-link architecture in the rear, electric power steering is used, disc brakes are already in the initial configuration (1.6 5 manual transmission) with ABS EBD Brake Assist Brake override system, in more advanced versions with 1.8 and 2.0 liter engines, ASTC (Traction Control System) and Hill Start Assist are added.

Test Drive Mitsubishi ACX 2013: the owners of the first cars complained about problems and inadequate behavior of the crossover in corners (the rear axle could skid even at low speed, the suspension was loose). Mitsubishi listened to the claims of car owners, and since June 2011 the car has been produced with an upgraded suspension. Other front stabilizer struts and stiffer rear shock absorbers are installed, and the characteristics of the electric power steering and stabilization system have also been changed.
As a result, the operation of the car has become safer, on a hard road surface the suspension is assembled, but excessively rigid, it shakes even on small bumps in the cabin, large pits and potholes are strongly felt by passengers and the driver. Changes in the suspension had a positive effect on handling, the car is stable and obedient, but ... I don’t want to drive fast, the chassis is too loud and does not differ in energy intensity, poor sound and noise insulation of the cabin.
For serious off-road, the 2012-2013 Mitsubishi ACX is poorly adapted, even the version with all-wheel drive transmission. But on slippery or snowy roads, connecting the rear wheels significantly adds confidence to the owner.
Although the Japanese ACX crossover looks like a crossover, in practice, in our opinion, it is a five-door hatchback with increased ground clearance and the ability to order all-wheel drive, but the suspension is clearly not conducive to moving on roads with poor coverage.

Where is collected Mitsubishi ACX: assembly of a car for the Russian market will be possible in Kaluga, but for now, the crossover is rolling off the assembly line in Japan and the USA.
What is the price: the cost in Russia ASH 2012-2013 captures a very large range of prices. For only 699 thousand rubles, you can buy the initial configuration ASX Inform (1.6 117 hp 5 manual transmission), and the sale of the maximum version of the ASX Exclusive 2.0 150 hp 4WD variator (leather interior, electric driver's seat, panoramic roof, navigation, xenon, climate -control) is carried out almost twice as expensive - from 1.249 thousand rubles.
The best option is to buy a new Mitsubishi ACX - a car dealership with the status of an official dealer. It is also better to buy spare parts and make current repairs from a dealer, for a simple reason - the conditions for maintaining a guarantee. However, in some cases, spare parts, accessories (rugs, covers, etc.), minor repairs and tuning of Mitsubishi ACX are cheaper to order via the Internet and perform at a specialized service station.
