"Mitsubishi Lancer 9" station wagon: review, specifications and reviews

Mitsubishi Lancer is a very popular car in Russia. Despite the discontinuation of production, the ninth generation is still in demand among motorists. These are mostly sedans. However, station wagons are no less in demand. We will consider what reviews and technical characteristics the Lancer-9 station wagon has in our review today.

Design

This car was first born in 2000. However, the design of the car is so successful that to this day it looks very harmonious and attractive.

At the front, the ninth Lancer is distinguished by a “smiling” radiator grille and good slanted headlights. By the way, the bumper of this car is very strong, which is repeatedly confirmed by reviews. The headlights do not become cloudy even after 15 years. The quality of the paint is also excellent. If the car has not been in an accident before, the paint will remain in factory condition. It does not swell over time - this is a big plus for a budget car.

From the front, the Mitsubishi Lancer 9 station wagon is practically no different from the sedan. All body elements in this part are interchangeable. But at the back the situation is a little different. What is different about the Lancer-9 station wagon? The rear light makes it recognizable on the road.

It stretches along the entire height of the body, starting from the bumper, ending at the upper edge of the roof. It is very difficult to find such headlights at disassembly sites - it will be much easier to find optics for a sedan. However, it will not fit on the rear of a station wagon. The car has a very calm design - a kind of family man who is in no hurry.

But those who want to improve the appearance of the car and make it more recognizable usually decide on tuning. The Lancer-9 station wagon can be equipped with wheels from Evolution, as well as other bumpers, diffusers and other body kits. Few people know, but the charged version of the Evolution was produced not only in a sedan body - there were also station wagons.

However, is it worth splurging on sports body kits if the engine and technical specifications remain the same? Therefore, many motorists limit themselves to installing beautiful wheels.

Dimensions, ground clearance

In terms of size, the station wagon is 3 centimeters longer and taller than the sedan (4.5 and 1.48 meters, respectively). But the width remained the same and is 1.77 meters. The ground clearance is 15 centimeters.

Salon

Inside, everything is quite simple and without frills. The driver is greeted by a comfortable, three-spoke steering wheel and an almost flat center console. The latter has a climate system control unit, a CD radio, a pair of deflectors and additional sensors. On more advanced versions, a multimedia display may be located in the center.

On the instrument panel there are two main scales (speedometer and tachometer), located in separate “wells”. The panel is quite informative and not overloaded with unnecessary arrows. The ninth generation Lancer has a very spacious interior, as noted by owner reviews. The rear seat can comfortably accommodate three adult passengers. However, the seats themselves are very hard and do not have much lateral support. Many people also complain about the plastic. It is quite hard and makes a lot of noise when the road surface is uneven. Only additional pasting with vibroplast saves the situation. By the way, finding the necessary interior part if it is damaged is not a problem. Nowadays there are many Lancers on sale, where you can buy an original part with minimal wear and tear for reasonable money.

Trunk

Another advantage of this model is its spacious trunk. The Lancer-9 station wagon can accommodate up to 1080 liters of luggage with the seats folded down. In the sedan, only 430 liters are available for use. But this is enough for the average family man.

When loaded “under the shelf”, without folded seats, about 344 liters of luggage can be placed.

Specifications

The car was supplied to the Russian market with several options for gasoline engines. Diesel units were not provided here.

Thus, in the basic configuration of the Mitsubishi Lancer-9, the station wagon was equipped with a 4-cylinder engine with a volume of 1299 cubic centimeters. The maximum power of this engine was 82 horsepower. The car was equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, but even with it it had rather weak dynamic characteristics. The Lancer-9 station wagon accelerated to hundreds in 13.7 seconds. And the maximum speed was 170 kilometers per hour. The only advantage of this unit is low fuel consumption. The Lancer-9 station wagon with a 1.3 engine spent 6.5 liters of fuel per hundred in the combined cycle.

The most popular for the ninth Lancer is the 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine, which produced 98 horsepower. The maximum torque of this unit is 150 Nm. This gasoline engine could be paired with one of two transmissions offered by the manufacturer. Thus, the 1.6-liter station wagon was equipped with a five-speed manual transmission or a four-mode automatic transmission. Acceleration to hundreds took 11.8 and 13.6 seconds, respectively. The maximum speed varied from 176 to 183 kilometers per hour. In terms of fuel consumption, the car remained very economical. In the combined cycle, the station wagon consumed 6.7 liters with a manual and 8.6 liters with an automatic.

And finally, the dream of any Lancer driver is a two-liter engine with 135 horsepower. This motor is rarely found on the Russian market. Therefore, as soon as a two-liter Lancer is found on sale, it quickly goes into other hands (or its price is one and a half times higher than for the 1.6-liter versions). This motor has excellent technical characteristics. In manual mode, this Lancer accelerates to hundreds in 9.6 seconds. For the 2000s, this was a decent indicator. However, there were also automatic versions. With them, the car accelerated in 12 seconds. As for the maximum speed, it ranged from 187 to 204 kilometers per hour (again, depending on the type of transmission chosen). In the combined cycle, this engine easily fit into the top ten.

Chassis

The vehicle was built on the CS2A-CS9W platform and has a transverse engine and transmission. There was no viscous coupling, so the drive was carried out only to the front wheels. The body is a load-bearing structure and is made of high-strength steel. As for the suspension, the classic MacPherson strut was used at the front. It stood at the back. Some modifications used a layout with passive steering of the rear wheels. A similar technology was previously practiced on BMW cars. To reduce lateral roll, it was also used in the suspension (both on the front and rear axles).

Steering

The steering is rack and pinion type, supplemented by a hydraulic booster. At one time, the rack on the ninth Lancer caused a lot of complaints among motorists. The fact is that the control mechanism was very worn out inside. As a result, the rack leaked and constantly required repairs. Fortunately, now there are specialists who specialize in restoring the rack and pinion mechanism. The cost of repairs in the event of a breakdown will be up to 20 thousand rubles. A new rack for the ninth Lancer costs about 80 thousand rubles.

There are no problems with the brakes on the Lancer. Ventilated mechanisms are used at the front and simple disc mechanisms at the rear. By the way, the diameter of the disk was different. At the front it was 276 millimeters, and at the rear - 262. When replacing elements (and they wear down after 200 thousand kilometers), this must be taken into account. As for the pads, reviews do not recommend using cheap analogues. They wear out quickly and their service life does not correspond to the declared one. You should especially avoid pads with asbestos (white spots on the friction coating). They not only work poorly, but also emit a characteristic squeaking sound.

The Lancer also used an anti-lock wheel system and electronic brake force distribution. Over time, the sensors may drizzle. But in most cases, moisture and oxidized contacts are to blame.

Prices, configurations

At the moment, the Mitsubishi Lancer is no longer produced. And you can only find it on the secondary market. Depending on the condition and year of manufacture (and the range here is colossal - 10 years), the price can range from 150 to 390 thousand rubles. Of course, the most expensive versions are with a two-liter engine. As for the level of equipment, already in the basic configuration the ninth Lancer had a hydraulic booster, two airbags, four electric windows, drive side mirrors, an ABS system and, importantly, air conditioning.

Conclusion

So, we found out what technical characteristics, design and price the Mitsubishi Lancer station wagon has. The machine is assembled quite well and has a good service life. Her only illness is the lath. Otherwise, the Mitsubishi Lancer is a very reliable and comfortable workhorse. That is why it has taken root in our area.
