Wiring diagram for the ignition switch vaz 2106. We install a new ignition switch on the "classic

Like any car, the VAZ 2106 has strengths and weaknesses that are familiar to many motorists. Intensive operation, bad roads, harsh climate do their job slowly but surely. As they say, nothing lasts forever - parts wear out, one way or another they have to be changed. Many car owners prefer to do do-it-yourself repairs. And everyone has heard about the periodic breakdown of a small but very important part - the ignition switch. If your lock is faulty, then it will not hurt you to acquire such a useful skill as installing a VAZ 2106 ignition lock.

No wonder they say: the new is the well-forgotten old. VAZ 2106 - the “six”, well known to everyone, has been one of the most popular and popular cars of domestic production since the days of the Soviet Union. Over the entire period of production of this model, more than 4.3 million cars were produced and assembled at different plants. A real workhorse, no wonder she still has a lot of admirers. Until now, lively “sixes” in large numbers plow the automobile expanses of the CIS countries and the near, as well as far, abroad. Of course, there is a hole in the old woman too.

The structure and purpose of the ignition switch

The ignition switch (lock) on all models of the "classic", including the "six", is absolutely similar in its device and design. Consider its device and principle of operation.

Ignition switch (lock) device:

Castle structure

  1. Locking rod
  2. Frame
  3. Roller
  4. contact disc
  5. contact sleeve
  6. Block
  7. Protrusion of the contact part.

The lock mechanism is connected to many wires. They continue from the battery, connecting all the electrical devices of the car into a single chain. When the ignition key is turned, the electrical circuit is closed from the "-" terminal of the battery to the ignition coil.

As a result, the current passes through the wires to the ignition switch, through its contacts it is directed to the induction coil, after which it returns back to the “+” terminal. As electricity passes through the coil, it generates a high voltage, which it transmits to the spark plug. Therefore, the key closes the contacts of the ignition circuit, thereby starting the car engine.

The ignition lock, like all spare parts, eventually requires repair or replacement. And any motorist can easily cope with this, having a minimum stock of necessary knowledge.

Removing the old ignition switch

Before installing a new lock, you need to make room for it by disconnecting the old one.

Tools and Precautions

To do this, we need a simple set of tools: a screwdriver and an awl.

Tools

Before starting work, do not forget about elementary safety rules - disconnect the battery (remove the negative terminal).

Disconnecting the battery

Removing the ignition switch

After preparing a safe workplace, we boldly get down to business.

Using a screwdriver, unscrew the 5 screws of the steering column cover. After that, remove the upper and lower casing elements. We unscrew the two screws on which the ignition switch is attached to the body.

Remove the cover

We insert the ignition key into the lock and turn it to the "off" (0) position to unlock the anti-theft system. To get the lock out of its seat, we find a small round hole in its left side.

Unlock

We take the awl and insert it into the hole, pressing the latch with it. At the same time, we take out the ignition lock, giving it with our hand towards ourselves.

We take out the lock

Disconnect the wires from the terminals. If the coil of wire ends with a chip, then this greatly simplifies the task. This means that you do not have to mark the wires or remember the scheme of their connection to the lock terminals for further connection. So, just disconnect the chip with wires.

Installing a new lock

The ignition lock is disconnected. Now we can start connecting a new one.

We connect the contact group of wires

If you are lucky enough to become the owner of a chip that closes the wires, then simply connect it to a new lock.

Chip connection

If there are no chips, then we connect each wire separately. We pick up the terminal block of the new ignition switch so that the only double terminal on it is on the right and is in a vertical position. The top compartment of the double terminal corresponds to the double black wire.

Color-coded wiring

Then we move counterclockwise. The next one to connect is a pink wire, followed by a double blue wire, then brown, and the last one is red. In addition, you can figure out the location of the wires on the terminal block using the digital marks that mark the block itself. Near each terminal there is a designation, consider the correspondence of the terminals to the colors of the wires:

  • 1NT - black double wire
  • 30 - pink wire
  • 15 - double blue wire
  • 30/1 - brown wire
  • 50 - red wire.

The lower part of the double terminal was left empty - as it should be. Contacts are connected.

Back of the castle

We install the lock in place and complete the work

Now it's time to fix the new lock in its original position - to the left of the steering wheel.

So, we insert the key into the lock and fix it in the “0” position. Then we take the lock and insert it into its original position, while “sinking” the side lock with your fingers. Now the lock is in place, respectively, we can tighten the fixing screws and install a decorative protective cover.

Checking the operation of the new lock

Installation work completed. Now you should make sure that everything in the car works as it should. First we connect the battery. If the system works correctly, when the key is set to the “0” position, all systems must be turned off. In the "I" position, power is supplied to the engine management system, alternator, headlights, signal lamps, windshield washers and wipers, power windows and control devices.

In position "II" voltage is applied to the same systems, and, in addition, the starter is started. When the lock is working properly, the locking rod of the anti-theft mechanism will extend and retract when the key is moved from the “0” (disabled) position to the “I” position and back.

As you can see, nothing supernatural - you can replace the ignition switch yourself, without asking for help from a car service workshop. The main thing is a little patience, knowledge, and you will master a simple car repair. And the "six" will please you with its faithful service for a long time to come. Good luck on the roads!

Ignition switches for cars VAZ models 2101-07

In "classic" VAZ cars, the engine is started using a starter. To close the contacts on the latter, an ignition switch is used. Due to this design, it is possible to provide a certain degree of safety of the vehicle from theft.

If wear or breakdown of the assembly has occurred, then the connection of the VAZ-2106 ignition switch can be carried out independently in garage conditions. To work, you will need a small arsenal of tools and a purchased new lock.

For some motorists, the node located under the steering column and associated with the ignition may seem insignificant. However, the possibility of starting the engine and connecting on-board electrical consumers depends on its performance. If you do not pay attention to the state of the "secret" or key, then at some point the driver will not even be able to leave the garage.

The design of the assembly in some vehicles may vary slightly. But it always contains the following elements:

  • contact disc and bushing;
  • metal protective case;
  • steering wheel fixing pin;
  • sleeve;
  • axial shaft;
  • terminal block for contacts.

One of the important parts of the car's electrical system is the VAZ-2106 ignition switch, the wiring diagram proves this. When the key is turned in the larva, the simultaneous connection / disconnection of various cables suitable for the block is carried out. The circuit is closed from the battery ground to the starter coil, and then the voltage is connected to the positive battery terminal.

Wiring diagram used

The ignition unit collects many cable ends into a single connector. Due to its versatility, it is used on different VAZ models. If there is no damage to the cable insulation or open circuits during the wiring, then the connector should cope with its task of switching operating modes.

If there is a need for a piece-by-piece connection of wires, then we recommend using this connection scheme, which uses the standard marking of each contact with a numerical or alphabetic code:

  • "50" - red cable (used for contact with the starter);
  • "30" - pink color of the wire;
  • "30/1" - brown wire;
  • "15" - blue cable with a black stripe (responsible for warming up the car inside, ignition, etc.);
  • "INT" - a wire with black insulation supplies voltage to the sidelights and head light.

Power supplies are involved in the electrical circuit. One of them is a battery, and the second is a generator that connects after starting the engine.

What is a castle

The node that starts power to electrical appliances and gives voltage to the starter is a cylinder. It has a core mechanical part and an end electrical part, on which the contacts are located.

It is important to know that the lock installed in the VAZ 2106 in the steering column helps to block the rotation of the steering wheel.

Process control is carried out by means of a simple kinematic chain. The driver inserts the key into the "secret", and the larva is connected on the output side through a leash with a block of contacts. Each position allows you to set one of the operating modes.

Turning the key to turn it on is clockwise. To make a withdrawal, it is necessary to rotate in the opposite direction. The driver will not be able to safely and legally start the engine at a zero position and an empty “secret”.

Larva and contact group

The individual shape of the key with the features of its relief allows you to provide an additional level of security to the vehicle. An attempt to hijack someone else's key will be obviously unsuccessful. When replacing the larva, the keys will also have to be changed.

The contact group with the pinout of the ignition lock VAZ-2106 is a flat washer, one of the ends of which is studded with several vertically inserted contacts. These conductive elements are fixed. The moving part is located on the inside of the washer. After changing its position, any contacts are closed, which ensures the supply of voltage to electrical appliances.

Conclusion

If even minor ignition problems occur, it is worth replacing the entire assembly. This will ensure timely start of the engine and devices connected to the on-board network.

The ignition lock VAZ 2106 is a fairly simple mechanism. Its scheme includes only four main elements: the body, the contact group, the anti-theft system and the lock itself. All these elements are closely related to each other, but if any of them fails, they can be replaced separately.

Device

Each of the above elements have a separate design. If we consider the ignition lock in more detail, then we can note such details as: a locking console, a housing, a shaft, a disk with contacts, a bushing, a shoe, and a cutout for a group of contacts.

The locking console is responsible for blocking the steering wheel, in the absence of an ignition key in the lock. Case - is a protective element, and covers the entire scheme of the structure of the castle. The shaft is responsible for the rotation of the disk with contacts, in relation to the sleeve, and forms a contact between them. The block and the group of contacts, in turn, are connected to the general ignition system of the car, and transmit the resulting contact to the distributor through the ignition coil.

Device replacement

Before replacing the ignition switch, it is worth determining whether it can be repaired. Sometimes replacement is simply not advisable, since the breakdown may be insignificant, and when replacing a separate element, it will be eliminated. But, if, nevertheless, a replacement is necessary, then let's figure out how to make it right.

Before starting work, be sure to prepare a metalwork tool, a fine-tipped file, and a multimeter. First of all, it is necessary to dismantle the protective case from the lock. Next, to remove the ignition switch, you should unscrew its fasteners, and set the key to position "0" to disable the lock.

Further, the lock disassembly scheme includes the extraction of the locking element through a special opening. This is done using a pre-prepared file. Now the ignition switch can be detached from the panel without any problems.

When connecting a new device, a special scheme must be observed, therefore, the contacts should be marked with a marker before disconnecting them from the part. Connecting a new lock is carried out strictly according to the pinout indicated on its rim.

The ignition pinout of the VAZ 2106 is deciphered as follows:

  • The value "0" - contacts 30 and 30/1, turn off the power system, putting it into emergency operation.
  • Value "I" - terminals 30/1-15 and 30-INT, includes lighting systems (front and interior), wiper, washer motor, heater and air conditioning fan, generator unit, instrument panel sensors, turn signals and horns, and Also, the ignition system itself.
  • The value "II" - contacts 30/1-15, 30-INT and 30-50, leave the previous elements on, with the exception of the ignition system, generator unit and instrument panel. Also, the starter circuit is turned on and the engine starts to run.
  • The value "III" - contacts 30-INT and 30/1, is considered a parking position, stops the starter circuit, leaves the lighting system, cleaners, washer motor and cooling system working.

After the lock circuit is connected, test its performance in all modes using a multimeter. To do this, disconnect the battery terminal, and install a multimeter between the contact and the battery positive. Turn the ignition key so that it activates the contact being tested. If a sign of operability appears on the multimeter panel, it means that the circuit is followed correctly. This procedure should be carried out for all four contact positions.

Conclusion

When replacing this element, you should be very careful, because if you connect it incorrectly, the entire ignition circuit will stop working and you will not be able to start the engine. Also, with mixed up contacts, it is possible to provoke an increased voltage on one of their nodes, which will certainly lead to its instant breakdown.

It is worth noting that this ignition switch connection scheme is suitable not only for the “six”, but also for the rest of the VAZ “Classic” model range. This is quite convenient, since when choosing a new part, you will not have any special problems.

Before you start any troubleshooting work on your car, you should prepare a certain set of tools. In the case of removing the ignition switch on the "six" we need:

  • screwdrivers - flat and cross-shaped;
  • awl.

However, the latter can be dispensed with. An awl can be perfectly replaced, for example, with a miniature screwdriver, or a thin long nail with a cross section of no more than 2 millimeters. One point should also be noted. Before proceeding with the disassembly of the ignition switch, it is recommended to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. Many may argue that a voltage of 12 volts is practically safe for a person.

However, do not forget that in the process of work, you may well close the wires and disable any electrical equipment.

Accordingly, there will be additional, completely unnecessary problems.

Now we need to find 2 screws with which the ignition lock itself is attached. You will immediately notice them - at the bottom of the switch, on the left and right. There is very little left. In particular, you should disconnect the wires from the contacts of the ignition switch. Now we find a flat slot on the right, stick an awl into it, and then press the latch, applying a certain force. Next, pry the lock with a flat screwdriver and remove it from the bracket.

Pay attention to one point. The lock should be removed without any problems. If, despite the efforts made, he stubbornly does not want to leave the bracket, then you have not pressed the latch to the end. In this case, you should do one simple procedure. Press the awl on the latch, and at the same time move the key a little from side to side, just do not turn it.

Replacing the contact group and installing the ignition switch

As mentioned above, there are several reasons why this work has to be done. One of them is the burning of the contact group. In this case, the entire lock does not need to be changed. At the same time, replacing the contact group will not cause you much trouble. To remove it, take the spring ring. After that, the contact group simply drops out by itself. Now it remains only to put a new one in its place. This should be done in such a way that the groove on the contact group exactly matches the stem of the secret part. After making sure that the whole village is as it should be, we fix it with a spring ring.

On a VAZ 2106 car, the ignition switch is the main control element for the on-board electrical equipment system. Only with full technical serviceability of the lock is the correct operation of the ignition system ensured.

Unfortunately, the VAZ 2106 ignition lock cannot boast of long-term uninterrupted operation, and quite often motorists are faced with the fact that it fails.

Therefore, they have to figure out what the VAZ 2106 ignition lock is, the wiring diagram, remove it, repair what is out of order, and then mount it back, remembering the wiring diagram along the way.

Our article will help you understand the issues of electronic ignition of the VAZ 2106. After reading it, many will be able to repair the lock on the VAZ 2106 on their own and will no longer experience problems with its dismantling and installation. It will also come in handy for those who don’t remember which connection scheme for each cable on the device.

basic information

The main elements of the ignition locks on the VAZ 2106 are the ignition switching system and the starter control circuit. Voltage is applied to a given circuit at a certain key position.

The design of electronic ignition on a VAZ consists of two elements:

  • The electrical part is a wire terminal, fixed in the lower part of the lock with a locking clip. Thanks to this element, the correct distribution of voltage to the on-board electronics of the car occurs.

The mechanical part is installed directly in the ignition switch itself. She is responsible in the car for locking the steering wheel, turning on the electronics and starting the starter.

It is worth noting that on a VAZ 2106 car, breakdowns can equally be associated with both the mechanical elements of the part and the electronics.

During the use of the vehicle, non-contact ignition malfunctions are different, so you need to understand what they can be associated with and know the wiring diagram.

What damage can be in the ignition lock?

As mentioned above, practice shows that breakdowns are characteristic of both parts of the castle and often a replacement of one or another half is required. Sometimes ignition coils VAZ 2106 can fail

When servicing these elements, you need to know what a contactless ignition circuit is, and after that it is necessary to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery, except if the presence of voltage on consumers is checked.

  1. Mechanical failure

The most common malfunction of the mechanical part of the bzs is a tight turn of the key, if the connection problem is not solved in time, the key will jam in the lock or break. As a result, you will have to change the entire lock, and such a replacement will require a lot of money.

Factory ignition locks from VAZ 2106 cars very rarely break down in this way, such a malfunction is typical for Chinese spare parts, because the cost of an analogue is an order of magnitude lower. Analogues are not subject to repair, unlike spare parts of the LADA automobile plant.

If a car enthusiast encounters a similar problem, then in the future, as a rule, he already purchases an original spare part from AvtoVAZ, no longer trusting Chinese parts manufacturers.

  1. Breakdown of the electronic part

Often, malfunctions of the VAZ 2106 ignition switch are associated with the electronic part of the device and they also need to be replaced. In this case, it is important to remember that the wiring diagram plays a huge role, and you should not confuse the wires in places.

The main causes of a malfunction of the ignition terminal:

  • Contact oxidation.
  • Partial or complete combustion of wires.

Melting of the plastic part of the terminal.

These reasons are caused by poor terminal contact on the VAZ 2106, or by the fact that the starter starts for a long time.

In this case, it is necessary to change only the electronic unit, which can be purchased separately in auto parts stores.

When replacing, it is necessary to remember or draw the colors of each cable on the connection to the lock so that the circuit is at hand, or simply take a picture of the terminal on the phone. Each contact has a specific number. So, the connection can be made according to the scheme indicated on the manufacturer's packaging box. If there is no scheme or it is lost, then read on.

Wiring diagram

The electronic block of the lock has the following contacts:

15 - a double blue wire with a black stripe is connected to the contact.

30 - pink wire. Responsible for turning on the starter.

30/1 - brown wire.

50 - purple or red. The color depends on the year of manufacture of the car. Additional circuit for starting the starter.

INT - black wire with two contacts, responsible for supplying voltage from the positive terminal to the ignition lock.

The ignition circuit is quite simple, and the pinout of the wires is remembered by many from the first time.

Replacing the ignition lock

This procedure can be performed independently, if you have at least basic skills in working with tools, and be sure to observe. The ignition lock on a VAZ 2106 car is not too complicated, and the wiring diagram for all the wires is simple and clear. Therefore, self-replacement, without contacting a service center, is performed by many motorists.

To repair, disconnect and connect, you will need:

  • plus screwdriver;
  • slotted screwdriver;
  • thin awl or small carnation.

Be sure to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery before starting repairs!

Many people know that a voltage of 12V is not scary for a person and is not afraid to get an electric shock. At the same time, they forget that electricity can affect not only the hand, but also the parts of the car. If, when trying to remove the lock, the wires are accidentally closed, this may lead to the failure of some of the electronic components of the machine.

To replace, you need to take a large Phillips and a small socket screwdriver. First of all, the plastic casing of the steering wheel is dismantled. First, the lower bar is removed, then the upper one. After the casing is removed, all elements of the lock become accessible and can be removed.

The second step is to disconnect the wires from the mechanical half of the device, after remembering the position of the terminals, because the pinout of the wires is important in this case. This was discussed above.

After unscrewing the bolts of the lock itself with a small screwdriver, it is necessary to turn the car key to the “zero” position. Now the device should come out of the mount easily and without much effort.

The next step is to unhook all the wires that fit the ignition switch. For those who fussed, the scheme was redrawn or photographed, while the rest can print a memo from this article. This will help them connect the part without too much trouble.

Then we look for a small flat slot to the left of the part on the bracket and with force we stick an awl there to press the latch.

Now you can pull the ignition lock out of the bracket by prying it with another screwdriver.

Installing and connecting a new lock occurs in the reverse order. The main thing is to connect all the contacts correctly, remembering the connection diagram, otherwise you can burn the wires.

Do not forget that the negative terminal of the battery must be disconnected during replacement.
