Kia Rio-3 review

We begin publications on self-repair and maintenance of a 3rd generation Kia Rio car with an overview of the positive and not very characteristics and qualities of this car.

Kia Rio 3 is a passenger front-wheel drive car of the Hyundai Solaris class, Chevrolet Aveo, Volkswagen Polo. In appearance and equipment, it is aimed at young buyers. As the developers assure, Rio 3 has the most optimal parameters of an urban youth family car, which has the most spacious interior among its classmates, high ground clearance and a roomy trunk.

Model History

The presentation of the 3rd generation Kia Rio in the hatchback body took place on March 1, 2011 during the Geneva Motor Show, and in the sedan body in April of the same year in New York. Since August 15, 2011, Rio 3, specially prepared for the conditions of the CIS, began to be assembled at the Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg. In addition to the Russian Federation, the car is produced in China, South Korea, Ecuador, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Reviews and operating experience

Car owners point out the following problematic aspects of build quality and materials used:

  • thin layer of paint, resulting in chips reaching the primer. Most often they occur on the hood, wings, thresholds.
  • there are scratches on the interior plastic even with little impact.
  • lack of good sound insulation(almost all cars of this class sin because of their budget).
  • models with heated seats no power regulator, because of which it is necessary to periodically turn off the heating and turn it on again.

  • Rio 3 models released before 2012 have steering rack problems. Due to the increased clearance between some parts, a knock is heard in the steering rack. To eliminate this shortcoming, the manufacturer even released a special repair kit.

  • after winter frosts (more about severe winters in the northern regions of Russia) "bloating" of chromium is observed on the decorative elements of the body.
  • some car owners have noticed "soft" windshields, which, after being cleaned with an ice scraper, had scratches.
