It is Ford Mustang that is the founder of the Pony-car class, compact by American standards, but with very powerful (in top versions) engines under the hood. A better-known nickname for such cars is the Muscle car. The first generation was released in 1964, it is interesting that the most famous name today - Mustang, the car received just before the presentation of the model in New York. The name of the car was due to the similarity with the American fighter of the Second World War P-51 Mustang. The car was offered in three body types: fastback, coupe and convertible. The first Mustang turned out to be so popular that already on the first day of the presentation, Ford received more than 20,000 applications from those who wanted to get such a car. Initially, a 4.1 liter 220hp V8 was installed under the hood, but in 1965 a more powerful 4.7 liter 300hp unit with four carburetors appeared. In 1965, the legendary modification of the Shelby GT500 appeared with a 7.0-liter V8 engine and 550 horsepower. In 1967, an external upgrade was carried out over the Mustang. The first generation Mustang was equipped with an automatic two-speed gearbox and three-speed mechanics, later three-speed automatics and four-speed mechanics appeared. The first generation appeared before the US fuel crisis covered - it was the brightest page in the history of Muscle Cars. A little later, such worthy competitors as the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger came out. In 1974 the second generation came out, in 1978 the third, and in 1997 the fourth generation.
Not one of the subsequent models did not have the charisma that the first generation had, but in 2005 the fifth generation Ford Mustang appeared, the designers conceived it as a continuation of the first generation. The chief designer of the project was an American of Vietnamese origin - Hau Tai - Tang. Tai-Tang previously worked as a race engineer for Nigel Mensen and Mario Andretti. A compass is built into the rearview mirror, the Europeans may not need it, but the Americans equip many models with it. Ford comes with air conditioning as standard. Oh, we would like such a car at an American cost, because in the USA the cost of a base Ford Mustang starts at $ 23,000, and as you know, the income of the general population in the USA is much higher. The gas pedal is not heavy, but provides excellent dosage. The clutch is tight - this is clearly not a female car. There is a socket in the box between the seats, the second socket is present on the center console. There are no many compartments for things and small things here, only a box between the seats, a classic glove compartment and modest-sized “pockets” in the doors. There are two cup holders between the box and the gearshift lever. In practice, if there is a bottle in the cup holder, then it is inconvenient to change gears, perhaps the Americans calculated this element of the interior and assumed that most of the "horses" would be equipped with an automatic machine - in the USA it is. The basic music system is equipped with a CD player and four speakers, but a system with two subwoofers and eight speakers is offered as an option.

The dimensions are quite impressive, but it is relatively convenient for an adult man to ride in the rear seats only around the city and for short distances. The great advantage of the American is a large trunk - 380 liters, as well as the ability to increase it by folding the back of the sofa. The backrest folds 50/50.

The developers faced a very difficult task, because the obligatory technical condition was the presence of a rear continuous axle, which was present on all previous generations, but today such a bridge (as on classic Zhiguli) is considered an outdated solution. Some may be very surprised that the Mustang's rear suspension is leaf sprung rather than coil spring. McPherson is installed in the front of the Ford Mustang. The undoubted advantage of the rear axle is reliability and indestructibility, but as a rule it negatively affects handling. At first glance, the power of the "initial" motor is not great - 210 horsepower, but the torque is 325N.M. With a machine gun, such a “horse” is gaining a hundred kilometers in eight seconds. More powerful is the 4.6-liter V8. The power plant allows you to develop 315 horses and 440N.M of torque. Both engines are mated to a five-speed automatic 5R55S, or a manual gearbox for the same five steps. V8 4.6 allows you to reach the first hundred in just over five seconds. The GT 5.0 version with a 5.0-liter engine is equipped with a six-speed Select Shift automatic or six-speed mechanics. The GT 5.0 requires a 31.7-meter stretch of asphalt to stop from stack-kilometers. The front axle accounts for 55% of the mass, which is somewhat worse compared to less powerful versions. In testing, the GT5.0, shod with Pirelli tires, withstood 0.97g of lateral g-forces without breaking into a skid. The 5.0 engine produces 420 horsepower and 527Nm of torque. The modern version of the Shelby GT 500 has a 5.4-liter V8 unit that produces 550 horsepower and 691 N.M of torque. All engines are designed for low-octane gasoline, 92nd is the norm for them.
