to the rules of the road.
This article is the first article in the "Signs of the Road" series and it discusses the most basic features of road signs: the division of signs into groups, the designations of each of the groups, and the features of their use.
Types of road signs in 2019
At present, Appendix 1 to has 8 sections, each of which deals with a separate group of road signs:
Road signs are divided into groups in such a way that each of the groups contains signs similar in meaning. Let's consider each of the types of signs in more detail.
traffic warning signs
Warning signs are the most useful and safest signs for the driver. Their safety lies in the fact that the requirements of warning signs can't be broken, because these signs do not prohibit or restrict the driver. The main function of such signs follows from their name. They warn the driver of possible dangers and help to avoid.
Warning signs are installed on dangerous sections of roads and are easy to distinguish from all other signs. Most warning signs are in the form of a red triangle:
The only exceptions are the signs associated with the railway crossing, the signs "direction of turn" and the sign "Intersection section". Their shape is different from a triangle:
Please note that all other warning signs are triangles.
Let me remind you once again that it is impossible to violate the requirements of warning signs, therefore, in the zone of their action, a fine for violating the requirements of road signs in the amount of 500 rubles cannot be imposed.
However, warning road signs can warn you against violations for which you can get a very real punishment.
Consider an example with the sign " Dangerous bend":
If you come across a similar sign on the road, then no special action is required. However, you should keep in mind that after 150 - 300 meters outside the village or after 50 - 100 meters in the village there will be a dangerous turn on your way.
Overtaking is prohibited on a dangerous turn (paragraph 11.4 of the rules). Accordingly, for overtaking on a dangerous turn, the driver runs the risk of being punished in the form of 4-6 months or a fine of 5,000 rubles.
At the same time, the rules do not prohibit overtaking after the "dangerous turn" sign, but before the start of the most dangerous turn.
For more information about warning road signs, see the following articles:
Priority signs
Priority signs, unlike warning signs, establish the right of way, crossings of carriageways, as well as narrow sections of the road.
In this case, you should pay attention that for violation of the requirements of priority signs installed at the intersection, you can get a fine in the amount of 1 000 rubles(Part 2 of Article 12.13 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). For the same violation outside the intersection, a warning or a fine of 500 rubles may be imposed (Part 1 of Article 12.16 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).
Here I want to note that most often on the road you can meet the following road signs:
no entry (road sign brick) | |
Movement Prohibition | |
turn prohibited | |
no overtaking | |
maximum speed limit | |
forbidden | |
No parking |
Consider an example related to the violation of the requirements of a road sign No Entry (brick). The penalty for this violation directly depends on which road the driver is driving on.
If the sign is installed before entering the territory of the organization or the courtyard, then we are talking about the usual violation of the requirements of road signs (500 rubles).
If the sign prohibits entry to a one-way road, then the violation will entail a fine of 5,000 rubles or deprivation of rights for a period of 4 to 6 months.
Mandatory signs
Mandatory road signs are the opposite of the prohibition signs discussed above. Mandatory signs allow only certain road users to perform certain actions.
For example, the road sign "bike path" allows only cyclists:
Various fines may be imposed for violating the requirements of prescriptive signs.
For example, for leaving the footpath, the driver will receive a fine of 2,000 rubles (Part 2 of Article 12.15 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).
Signs of special regulations
Signs of special prescriptions combine elements of both prohibitory and prescriptive signs.
For example, sign 5.19.1 "pedestrian crossing" allows pedestrians to cross the carriageway, and the sign "zone with a maximum speed limit" prohibits exceeding the speed limit on a selected section of the road.
Penalties for violation of the requirements of signs of special requirements depend on the type of sign and can vary widely.
Signs of additional information (plates)
Additional information signs serve to clarify the meanings of road signs from other sections.
For example, a "wet surface" sign indicates that the sign is valid only for the period of time when the road surface is wet.

New road signs 2017
Even if you are not a driver and in the near future such a joyful event as obtaining a driver's license is not expected, knowledge of road signs will not be superfluous. Moreover, they form an important part of the rules of the traffic system and equally apply to all its participants.
Most road signs are presented in the form of standardized graphic patterns and are located either along roads or in places with a large number of people, for example, in a pedestrian crossing or subway. In addition, these are the main assistants in the correct orientation on the roads and in the area.
Classification of road signs
The structure of road signs is clearly systematized and divides signs into eight groups, depending on their functions and semantic commonality.
So, the main types of signs are:
- warning;
- priority;
- forbidding;
- prescriptive;
- especially prescriptive;
- information and indication;
- service;
- additionally informative.
Each of these groups has its own characteristics and specific application.
- warning signs. Shape: red triangle with white background. Well visible from afar. These pointers are the safest and most useful because they are not restrictive or restrictive. Their main function is notification of dangerous sections of the road, the nature of the potential threat and traffic difficulties, and warning against accidents. The numbering starts with the number "1".
- Priority signs. They are different in shape and color. There are only thirteen of them and therefore do not cause difficulties in their memorization. A feature of priority signs is the determination of the priority right to cross carriageways, intersections and narrow sections of roads. This group of signs includes: the main road, non-stop traffic is prohibited, oncoming traffic priority, etc. Numbering starts with the number “2”.
- prohibition signs. Mostly round in shape with a black pattern on a white background and the serial number of the category "3". Meaning: the prohibition of certain actions on the road, the introduction or cancellation of traffic restrictions. The most famous are: “brick” (no entry), prohibition of parking or stopping, overtaking, speed limit, etc.
- Mandatory signs. Also round, but with white drawings on a blue field. Group numbering starts with the number "4". Function: indicating the direction of movement on certain sections of the road, limiting the minimum speed, warning of subsequent prohibition signs.
- Special order signs. Group numbering starts with the number "5". Few, but very significant. They combine elements of forbidding and prescriptive indicators. Meaning: Entering or canceling some traffic modes, adjusting one-way traffic flow, designating a residential area, pedestrian crossing, priority of traffic lanes, and so on. Penalties for violating these iconic requirements directly depend on their type and range.
- Information and indication signs. In the form of a square or rectangle with a blue border and a white/black pattern on a blue/white background. The serial number of the group is "6". Responsible for informing all road users about settlements, the nature of the road, the location of traffic lanes, established modes of movement and related recommendations.
- Service marks. The shape and color are the same as the information ones. The numbering starts with the number "7". Function: a message about various services and objects - hotels, gas stations, campsites, cafes, etc. Signs are placed on turns to the place of service or directly next to them. Like category 6 signs, service signs also have an exclusively informative value.
- Additional Information Signs. Presented in the form of rectangular plates with a black border and a pattern on a white background. The main purpose is to supplement and clarify the actions of road signs from other categories. Never used on their own.
road and children
With this video, your child will be able to learn all the traffic signs.
A separate issue is familiarization with the rules of the road for the child. After all, as you know, traffic rules are not written for children and they think little about their own safety while moving across the road. That is why it is so important to teach them the basic road signs from an early age.
A truly childish sign warning of their appearance from the territory of an educational and similar institution adjacent directly to the road is a sign "Look out, kids!"
He is from the warning group and should be taken into account not only by drivers, but also by the children themselves, telling them about the ban on crossing the road in this place. In addition, such stickers are used on public transport intended for the transport of children.
Other common pointers for children are:
Sign "Crosswalk" with a depiction of a zebra on it and indicating the place of the elevated crossing of the carriageway of the street. However, the same sign, but in a red triangle, acts as a warning to the driver about the approach to the transition and the need to reduce speed. For a pedestrian, this is a clear signal about the prohibition of crossing the road at the location of the sign.
Sign "Underground pedestrian crossing". It is installed at the entrance near the crossing, indicating the place of safe crossing of the street under the ground.
Sign "Tram/bus stop". Informs about the place of public transport stop and its waiting for passengers.
Sign "Footpath". Indicates a pedestrian-only road. It has general rules of conduct for pedestrians.
Sign "No Pedestrians". The name of the sign speaks for itself. It is installed in places where traffic may be unsafe. Often used to temporarily restrict movement.
Sign "Bike Lane" clearly indicates the road exclusively for bicycles and mopeds. The movement of another type of transport is strictly prohibited here. In addition, pedestrians can also use this road, in the absence of a sidewalk.
Sign "Bicycles are not allowed". It speaks of the impossibility of using a bicycle for movement in a given place. There is a danger for the cyclist on the road. Introducing the child to the principles of traffic and signs, it is necessary to pay great attention to the rules of behavior in public places, when crossing the street, waiting for transport, etc.
After all, extra vigilance is a sure guarantee of his safety!

SIGN NAME MEANING
It should be remembered that ignorance of traffic rules does not exempt either drivers or pedestrians from responsibility. The latter, in case of violation of traffic, is also subject to a fine.
Therefore, it is better to prevent such unpleasant situations and study the traffic rules and signs.
Roads, highways, avenues, highways in various CIS countries cannot be imagined without road signs. For an experienced driver, this is a completely ordinary thing that he knows, but for a beginner or novice, this is a bunch of different images that can not tell him much.
The governments of various CIS countries are steadily replenishing the ranks of road signs in order to prevent possible traffic accidents. Also, new road signs help make driving on the roads much easier and safer for drivers.
What groups are road signs divided into?
For general convenience, all road signs were divided into appropriate groups and each of them was given a name according to its intended purpose. SDA of the Russian Federation distinguishes 8 groups of DZ:
- warning;
- priority;

- Prescriptive (predictive);
- Particularly prescriptive;

Warning DZ
Warning signs - tell the driver of the vehicle that he is approaching an area in which you need to pay attention and take specific measures appropriate to a certain situation. This alerts the driver to the following conditions or situations:
Priority signs
Priority signs set the order intersections of a particular type of road. Although there are relatively few of them, they are of great importance in priority for drivers. Imagine a situation where the driver is driving along the main road, two more cars are driving on the sides, from the intermediate ones. Who has more benefits? Of course, the driver who moves along the main road, and the other two cars will have to wait for their turn. Help determine the type of roadway DZ priority, they are:
Forbidding remote sensing
Prohibition signs - intended to restrict activities in a specific area, namely the movement on a certain type of vehicle. Most of these traffic symbols are circular in shape, bordered in red, and inside, in black and white, it shows what cannot be done in a particular zone. DZ special prescriptions
Signs of special regulations introduce or cancel certain types of traffic on vehicles. Additional Information Signs
Additional information signs are used to clarify or limit the actions of other signs with which they are applied. Such DZs, as a rule, have a not entirely new style (black on white), practically without any additional colors. Information boards say the following:
What does the number of the road sign mean?
Each sign has its own number. It is expressed as numbers that are written with a dot. You can take, as an example, the number of the sign "Scope" - 8.2.1. The first digit 8 means the number of the group, that is, signs of additional information, the second digit 2 is the serial number of the sign in the group, the third digit 1 means the type of sign in the group. Thus, the sign "Zone of action" is the first variety, the second sign, the eighth group.
